Reële impact van dit paradigma:For every instance in which President George W Bush stated that “there is no clash of civilizations,” or dismissed it as “a passing myth of history,” one can find him alluding to the need for ‘civilized people’ to unite against ‘rogue states’. In his speech to Congress on 19 September, 2001, for example, Bush outlined his vision for the ‘war on terror’ stating, “[t]his is civilization’s fight.” Whilst the US government may have seemingly sought to avoid the notion of a clash between ‘Islam’ and ‘the West’, the rhetoric of ‘civilizations’ still crept into its dialogue.(Michael Dunn)
