Who is Stalkmarket?

Asean Corporation, the parent of the Stalkmarket family of brands, (Stalkmarket, Jaya and Planet+) was founded in 1989,

and today has grown into one of the leaders of offering only 100% BPI (Biodegradable Products Institute) certified compostable products to the coffee retail industry and food service in general. From the humble beginnings in Portland, Oregon, the company now services customers worldwide with its every growing list of all natural single use tableware.

The company has maintained its focus on only offering the finest quality in products for the coffee industry, including the first ever BPI certified compostable hot cup lids for our Planet+ line. The lids make the use of standard Polystyrene and Polypropylene lids unnecessary for the coffee retailer who is striving to green up their own operations and moving away from the more petroleum based plastic resin products commonly found in the marketplace.

Key ProductsStalkmarket paper tableware is made from 100% biodegradable compostable sugar cane fiber, a by-product of the sugar refining process. Our products are 100% tree and plastic free, made from sustainable resources, biodegradable, recyclable and home compostable. They are a natural alternative to styrofoam and plastics!

Additionally, they are microwaveable & freezer safe. Another bonus is that they are oil & cut resistant.

All Stalkmarket products are made utilizing either pre-consumer recycled fibers, or easily renewable plant based raw materials for all of its products. Coupled with their natural fully compostable end of life capabilities, they are one of the truly greenest and sustainable products on the market at prices that are competitive or on parity with the common standard poly products.

Also, many users are finding that by switching to fully compostable and renewable material products, they themselves are less susceptible to price swings due to raising oil and gas prices, whereas all natural and compostable products, have shown over time to be much more steady in their pricing when compared the to larger fluctuations of petroleum based products.

CompostabilityStalkMarket products can be disposed of or composted. When there is food residue on the plate, container etc. disposal of our products into the wet garbage stream is preferred, or ideally in a commercial composting facility.

Many municipalities direct their wet garbage (food waste) into composting operations. Products are made from Bagasse, the natural cellouse fibers that remain after sugarcane has been processed to remove all the liquid “juice” from the sugarcane stalk. Natural fibers such as these will biodegrade in the presence of heat, moisture, oxygen and microorganisms that feed on the fibers as part of their normal diets. There are no synthetic fibers used in StalkMarket products. StalkMarket’s Jaya and Planet + products use polylactic acid (PLA) and other biopolymers, that are also made of sustainable plant materials and industrially compostable. Our products break down extremely quickly in commercial composters. Even if our products end up in a landfill, they will still break down provided air and moisture are present, though the process may take significantly longer and greatly depends on how the landfill operates.

The experience that Scolari Engineering has developed in controlling coffee roasting factories is the outcome of many years at

Scolari Engineering was started some years before World War II by Antonio Scolari when the family decided to buy a company that was roasting coffee and manufacturing roasters. Who is International Coffee Consulting?

I nternational Coffee Consulting is a resource for the coffee industry to implement, enhance and embrace quality improvements. Starting

ICC was founded when Rocky Rhodes sold his roasting company of 13 years and started teaching Q-Grader Certification classes. Clients began to call requesting unique and specialized knowledge to solve business issues. Perhaps one of the more unique cases had to do with a high-end hot cup manufacturer. Within the categories were breakdown by customer make-up and were put in a grid to identify highest value prospects. Industry ContributionsIn the 1980’s and ‘90s David and Ellie Gross operated a chain of yogurt and smoothie bars in the San Francisco area. Their mission was to offer the healthiest and most beneficial beverages possible. In the interest of catering to the customers’ appetite for healthy foods, they began a search for supplement- boost products they could add to their blended beverages.

They found many individual supplements such as ginseng, taurine, guarana, echinacea and goldenseal and posted them on their menu board. It was soon very apparent that customers had no idea what these supplements were or their benefits. David and Ellie decided to combine ginseng, taurine, guarana along with B Vitamins and name the new product Energy Blend. They combined echinacea with goldenseal, added vitamin c and named the new product Immune Support.

David and Ellie decided to devise a supplement-boost product line of their own. The parameters were that the boost had to include multiple ingredients, be taste-free, easy to use, and of uniform scoop size. The name for each boost would have to be descriptive of what benefit the boost provided. They came up with a product line, put it to use in their shop, and made adjustments as needed until each product was perfected.

Today the Fiber Blend is a combination of oat bran, rice bran and wheat bran. The Multi-Vitamin boost is a combination of many vitamins and minerals. Now that customers could choose a boost with a specific benefit (Energy or Immune Support for example) they made their decisions faster and production at the smoothie bar ran

smoother and more efficiently.

As a result, other juice bar operators and coffee concepts found out about Smoothie Essentials Supplement-Boosts and wanted to buy some for their shops too. Soon the product line was so popular, David and Ellie sold their yogurt and smoothie bars, and focused wholly on the Smoothie Essentials™ product line.

As time passed and users began experimenting with recipes, it came about that the boosts were being added to foods and well as blended beverages and even to coffees. As a result, it came time for a name change away from “smoothie” essentials and move towards the flexibility of ‘adding a scoop’ to many various menu items.

Who is Weldon Flavoring?

Weldon Flavorings got its start in 1995 under the direction of owner, Dennis Weldon. Dennis became interested in

serving flavored coffee at his coffee cart operation at the Kentucky Exposition Center and private venues, and found no quality product on the market except flavored coffee beans and syrups used for flavoring specialty drinks, such as

cappuccinos and lattes. Since he liked his coffee unsweetened and did not want to use syrups for flavoring coffee or purchase additional equipment to make several different pots of flavored coffee, Dennis became interested in the idea of having unsweetened coffee flavorings developed. After becoming acquainted with a local product developer our unsweetened coffee flavorings were born.
