The Stena V-MAX is based on innovation and perf ormance

according to the Stena MAX concept the worlds leading

design in safet y, fl exibili t y and economy.Innovation together w ith the best t echnology available

ensures safe transportation of oil across the oceans.

Performance reduces costs for our customers. Maximum

safety at a minimum t otal cost!

    Innovat ion & Perf ormance

    Doubled pro -active safet y

All navigation f unctions are centrally located o n t he bridge. From t he

conni ng posit ion , you have a 360o view. The Integrated Bridge Control

System gives imm ediat e access to relevant data and cont rol s.

The layout enables co-pilot operation, which increases safety in narrow

    waters.

All t he systems fo r propu lsion and manoeuvering engines, shaf t s,

generat ors, steeri ng g ear, rudders, prop ellers and cont rol systems

are doubled and function independently. The engines are separated by a

fi reproof and water tigh t bulkhead.

The Stena V-M AX is cert ifi ed to DNV RPS (Redundant Propulsion

Separate) and i s th e fi rst large tanker to satisfy t hese requir ement s.

    Econo my o f Scale

The double hull of the Stena V-MA X has a low m oulded dept h of 25.6

met res around 5 met res less th an that of a new convent ional VLCC.

    Cargo i nt ake at 16.76 metres (55 feet) i s 75% h igher t han a standard

Suezmax and 20% higher than a standard VLCC.

The V-MAX t hus off ers chart erers a lower transport ation cost per

    landed barrel.

    Unique manoeuvrabi li t y

Double propellers and do uble rudd ers enable the

Stena V-MAX t o tu rn f aster and mo re swif tly t han a

    conventional tanker half her size.

The turning circle, as illustrated, is performed at 15

knot s wit h maximal rudd er angle. The enhanced

    manoeuvrabilit y of th e Stena V-MA X and it s shallow

draf t enable the vessel to ent er fair ways to safel y

transport large quantit ies of oil in confi ned w aters.

    The Stena V-MA X is

    able to sail faster than

    conventional new

VLCCs. Here, The StenaVision is passing the

    Cape of Good Hope en

rout e to t he US.

The Stena V-MAX buil t f or at

least 25 years of active trading

    is thoroughly protected against

    corrosion for extended fat igue

life. The ballast, cargo, fuel oil and

contaminated water have ballasttanks or void space between their

    boundaries and t he hull.

As an extra precauti on, in t he

    event of grounding, the hopper

tanks are larger t han on a

convent ional VLCC in o rder to

reduce the risk of an oil spill.

OPTIMISED ECONOMY OF SCALE. The larger the ship, the greater the economy of scale

a generally accepted truth. But there is a point where restrictions on physical dimensions and

logistics no longer allow the shipbuilder to continue increasing all the external dimensions.

    Moreover, construction becomes uneconomical.

What Stena has now developed in close cooperation with classification societies and SSPA

Sweden AB in Gteborg is a ship design where relatively small changes increase cargo intake by

20-40% compared with conventional VLCCs and by 70-100% compared with Suezmax tankers.

This is achieved at a very reasonable addit ional cost . The result is ext remely compet it ive t rans-

por t economy to por t s wi th draf t rest rictions wi th potential savings of 10-20% per barrel.

The reason for this is that costly and time-consuming lightering operations at sea and transfers

in intermediate ports are completely or partly avoided as a result of the V-MAXs larger cargo

    capacit y.

BUILT WITH THE CUSTOMER IN FOCUS. OPTIMISED FOR CARGO INTAKE, DRAFT AND SPEED.

30% higher loading capacit y on a limit ed draft compared wit h conventional new VLCCs

1-2 knots higher speed t han conventional new VLCCs

The same bunker consumpt ion at t he same speed as competi tors

Three solid facts which have a direct and immediate impact on our customers log ist ics cost s

and t he vessels earning capacit y.

Wit h a draf t like a Suezmax, a length like a VLCC and reduced draf t , she does not dif fer drast ically

f rom convent ional new tankers. Por ts that have commonly been limi ted to Suezmax tonnage

are now open t o t he economy of VLCC t ranspor tation t hrough t he Stena V-MAX. VLCC economy

    wi th Suezmax flexibilit y.

The STENA V-MAX is our answer!

Oil should always travel first class!
