The result is a wonderfully fresh wine, with intense smoky and mineral notes imparted by the limestone plateau on which the vines are planted. WINEMAKING: The fruit was hand picked in late August and early September during the cool early morning hours of the day to preserve the fresh fruit aromas and flavors in the grapes. 60% were fermented in 2nd and 3rd year French oak barrels, with the remaining 40% in stainless steel, giving added complexity to the final blend. TASTING NOTES: Pale green - almost silver - in color, the wine offers enticing aromas of lime, pineapple and tropical fruits. Sharp minerality on the palate is balanced with crisp acidity, well-integrated oak and a touch of vanilla that balances a lemony freshness and leads to a long, dry finish. CRITICAL ACCLAIM: Not yet reviewed. ABOUT CHÂTEAU DE SOURS: Situated high up on a commanding limestone plateau just to the south-west of Pomerol and facing St. Emilion, Château de Sours has been producing wine for more than 200 years. Dating back to the 14th century, it originally served as an inn on the St. Jacques de Compostelle pilgrimage route to Spain. The current house was built in 1792, and has since been renovated and restored to its former glory by proprietors Martin and Nicolette Krajewski. Under their leadership, Château de Sours has undergone a massive refurbishment, blending the region's traditional rigor and craftsmanship with modern innovations. Château de Sours is producing some of Bordeaux's most respected red and white wines, and is leading a renewed global interest in top class rosé.
