Eigil Nielsen

1918 EN DAARNA Eigil Nielsen wordt geboren als derde kind uit een gezin van acht. Eigil wordt doelman voor het Deense Nationale Team en wint de bronzen medaille op de Olympische Spelen. Zijn club KB Copenhagen is een topclub in die tijd.

1947 Eigil maakt zijn eerste voetbal. Select is geboren. Door het leder te rekken als het nat is behoudt de bal beter zijn vorm. Een aantal jaren later gebruikt Eigil als eerste een ventiel i.p.v. een veter om de bal te sluiten. Hij is de eerste die een bal volledig kan dichtnaaien, dit door het gebruik van een speciale techniek om de laatste knoop te dichten. Dit is het begin van een nieuw tijdperk.

1951Eigil Nielsen introduceert de Select Super. De veterloze voetbal. Deze bal wordt gebruikt in de wedstrijd tegen Zweden en later op de Olympische Spelen van 1952 en 1956 in Helsinki en Melbourne.

1962Select introduceert de eerste 32-panelen bal. Dit wordt beschouwd als één van de grootste uitvindingen in de geschiedenis van het voetbal. Sinds dien hebben velen al geprobeerd om een betere “ball shape” te vinden, echter zonder resultaat.

1965De bal wordt ronder en aërodynamischer. Hoewel, in natte weersomstandigheden wordt de bal zo zwaar dat hij bijna onbespeelbaar wordt. Vele balfabrikanten proberen dit probleem op te lossen. Select slaagt hierin door een klein laagje PU op het leder aan te brengen. Select introduceert de eerste waterproof bal ter wereld.

1974Introductie van de eerste volledige PU bal. Polyurethane is ondertussen ontwikkeld. Dit materiaal geeft de bal de zachtheid en elasticiteit van echt leder, plus de waterafstotende eigenschap van kunstleder. Als één van de eerste bedrijven ter wereld heeft Select een handgenaaide voetbal gemaakt uit PU, ook kunstleder genoemd.

1996FIFA richt een raad van wijzen op om de universele kwaliteitsstandaarden vast te leggen voor voetballen. Eigil wordt hiervoor uitgenodigd en neemt deze dan ook aan.

2005Select wordt de officiële leverancier van de Internationale handbalfederatie (IHF).Dit maakt dat alle WK’s en Olympische Spelen gespeeld worden met een Select handbal. Er wordt ook een contract getekend met ASOBAL de Spaanse handbalfederatie en sterkste ter wereld.

HEt oNtstAAN vAN sElEct

sElEct voEtbAllENVoetbal wordt geacht een leuke sport te zijn, de juiste voetbal kiezen voor je club echter is een serieuze aangelegenheid. Geen enkele aankoopbeslissing zal een grotere impact hebben op de kwaliteit van het spel, en op lange termijn zal de aankoop van iets duurdere PU voetballen geld besparen voor de club.

PU vERsUs PvcVandaag worden bijna alle ballen gemaakt uit synthetische materialen. Ook de beste voetballen.Voetballen uit echt leder bestaan niet meer. De buitenzijde van de bal bestaat uit PU voor de duurdere voetballen, en PVC voor de goedkopere. PVC is een minder slijtvast materiaal. Als je de vergelijking maakt tussen PVC en PU, dan ziet men dat PU-ballen zachter zijn, meer lijken op echt leder, betere speeleigenschappen hebben en zachter blijven ook, in koude temperaturen. Niet alle PU ballen zijn dezelfde. Algemeen kan men aannemen dat hoe dikker de PU buitenlaag is, hoe beter de speelkwaliteiten zijn van de bal.

Alle voetballen zijn handgenaaid. Dit geeft de bal een perfecte vlucht.

Een voorbeeld is de extra dikke microfiber PU bovenlaag die terug te vinden is in onze Brillant super. Select gebruikt de hoogste kwaliteit PU materialen dit is het duurste onderdeel van een voetbal.

bEHoUD vAN GEWIcHt, stUIt, GRoottE EN voRM. Select voetballen voldoen niet alleen hoogste internationale kwaliteitsstandaarden, zij behouden deze kwaliteiten na honderden uren op het veld. De reden hiervoor is de uitgebalanceerde binnenblaas gemaakt uit pure latex. Elke binnenblaas wordt opgepompt en getest voor deze in de bal gaat.

Youth-line concept De youth line van Select introduceert een nieuwe aanpak voor trainers en clubs. De bedoeling is de balvaardigheid van de

jeugdspelers te verbeteren. In samenwerking met de Deense voetbalfederatie heeft Select een lijn ontwikkeld van lichtere ballenvoorkinderenenjongespelerstotdeleeftijdvan12jaar.Dezelijnnoemenwedeyouthline.Jongespelersvoelenzich soms oncomfortabel wanneer ze met een normale maat 5 voetbal spelen. De bal voelt zwaar aan en is moeilijk om weg te trappen. De lichtere en zachtere ballen uit de youth line geven de kinderen het comfortabele gevoel met een lichte bal te spelen en hun balvaardigheden op een speelse manier beter te ontwikkelen.

Gebruik & onderhoud van een voetbal**belangrijk: VooraleereerstemaalopteblazenALTIJDeersteendruppelventielolie in het ventiel laten vloeien. Dit regelmatig herhalen bij droog weer en vooral in het begin van het seizoen, om te vermijden dat de blaas losspringt door droogte van het ventiel.

1. Weblazendebaleerstemaalopoverdrukd.w.z.ongeveer1.0i.p.v.0.7/0.8enditomdebalzosnelmogelijkzijngewensterondingtegeven,omhemdaarnavoorgebruikopdegevraagdedruk0.7/0.8tezetten.

2. Na gebruik de ballen regelmatig afwassen om zandresten e.a. uit de naden te verwijderen, en dit om verharding van de naden tegen te gaan.

3. Laat regelmatig een beetje druk van de ballen, vooral in natte toestand, dat geeft buitenkant blaas en binnenkant bal de gelegenheid om te drogen, om dan vóór gebruik de bal terug op gevraagde druk te zetten.

4. De ballen steeds laten drogen op normale kamertemperatuur en ze zeker niet laten bevriezen.

FIFA QUAlItY coNcEPtThe FIFA Quality Concept for Footballs is a test programme for Outdoor, Futsal and Beach Soccer footballs. Manufacturers have the possibility to enter into a licensing agreement for the use of the prestigious ‘FIFA APPROVED’ and ‘FIFA INSPECTED’ Quality Marks on footballs which have passed a rigorous testing procedure. As an alternative there is the possibility to use the wording ‘IMS International Matchball Standard’. Footballs bearing this designation have passed the same quality requirements as ‘FIFA INSPECTED’ footballs.
