Assignment 3:  Your World: Unveiling the Beauty in the

Everyday.

-Abstract Elements Using a Shallow Depth of Field and Macro Photography.

Principle of Design: Repetition/Pattern

Your World &Your task: Everyday Beauty- Up Close• Take SIX photos that

represent your world. • What do you find

beautiful? What surrounds you that makes you complete? Is it nature, inanimate objects, people, tools, food, soft clothes, etc.

Macro Photography• The art of taking close-

up pictures that reveal details which can’t be seen with the naked eye.

Macro Photography• Making objects seem larger, greater than

life size.

3. Focus on ABSTRACTION!

This means making the object/thing NOT recognizable. Making it less identifiable.

Recognizable Abstract

Abstract means…-Unusual: Capture something in a way that it would not usually be seen.

-Non-representational: not meant to look like a certain object or thing.

4. Use a SHALLOW DEPTH OF FIELD, so more of the image is in focus allowing the textures and lines to create patterns.

5. Focus on Principle of Design Repetition/Pattern

What is Pattern/Repetition?

1.Elements that are repeated: • Lines • Color• Texture• Shapes• Forms

Why use Pattern/repetition?

• Patterns give us order in an otherwise chaotic world.

• Tool used to calm the viewer, making them feel comfortable.

Pattern & Repetition also

• Increase the emotional impact of your images

Lighting- Flash? Use daylight? Use home lamps?

• Challenging to have sufficient lighting• Due to:• Macro photography requiring small apertures to achieve

necessary Depth of Field• Macro photography requiring longer exposures to

compensate for the small apertures

Marvel at the small things!-texture

Frame Your Shot!-Don’t just crop!

Think About the Angle!

Tilt your camera or get low to the ground!

Your World. Your Beauty. In 6 Photos.

-What do you like? Food? Above: Mushroom

-Interests? Top right: Guitar

-Parts of objects? Bottom right: rusted metal
