Bedankt voor uw deelname aan de Dutch Datacenter & Hosting Summit 2012. De organisatie, de sprekers en de sponsors heten u van harte welkom in Amsterdam.

We leven al jaren in het informatietijdperk. Een voordeel van leven en werken in de informatiemaatschappij is dat we slimmer en ef� cienter worden. Maar de alsmaar toenemende informatie en informatiebronnen beginnen overstromingen te veroorza-ken. Data is overal: we hebben moeite de data te ontvangen, versturen, verwerken, analyseren en bewaren. Wereldwijd is tussen de 2 en 3 zettabytes aan data opge-slagen. Dagelijks voegen we daar wereldwijd zo’n 2.5 * 10^18 bytes aan data (2,5 miljoen petabytes) aan toe. Dit is zoveel dat 90 procent van alle data pas de laatste twee jaren ontstaan is! We creëren elke twee dagen net zoveel data als we in de periode vanaf het ontstaan van de mensheid tot en met 2003 hebben gedaan. Deze tsunami van data en informatie is een een menselijk probleem, maar ook een techno-logisch probleem. 2012 is het jaar van Big Data en we worden overspoeld met fabrikanten en aanbie-ders die op de één of andere manier in Big Data stappen. Maar Big Data is geen dienst, geen product noch een oplossing. Het is een marketingterm, een container-begrip, waar elke vendor en analist een eigen betekenis aan geeft. Het woord Big – uiteraard met een hoofdletter geschreven - legt associaties met iets belangrijks met veel superlatieven: denk aan Big Mac, Big Spender, Big Money of Big Brother. Maar krijgt Big Data nu Big Impact of is het slechts Big Deal?

McKinsey spreekt van ‘Big Data: the next frontier’ en Forbes heeft al een ‘Big Data Landscape’ uitgewerkt. Gartner heeft niet zo lang geleden het thema Big Data toege-voegd aan het ‘Hype Cycle Report 2012’ over emerging technologies. Er is zelfs een Dilbert over Big Data.

En daarom gaat de DDHS 2012 dit jaat over Big Data, want wij denken dat het Big Impact heeft. En daarom bent u waarschijnlijk ook naar dit congres gekomen. We hebben een aantal toonaangevende organisaties en sprekers binnen dit vakgebied uitgenodigd om hun visie te geven op de markt en de trends met be-trekking tot Big Data. We hopen dat u straks naar huis gaat en een idee heeft gekregen van wat Big Data is en hoe uw organi-satie het niet als uitdaging ervaart maar ervan kan pro� teren!

We wensen u een productieve dag toe en hopen u uiteraard ook in 2013 weer terug te zien.
