beste die je ooit hebt gezien. Bij de zitmand is een reeks accessoires ontworpen met de naam Snag-free. Deze

producten hebben een revolutionair scharnierontwerp waar de lijn bijna niet meer achter kan blijven

haken. Ook is er een nieuwe rolsteun voor de vaste stok die is uitgerust met een ‘ground spike’. Hiermee kun je de rolsteun vlak boven de grond gebruiken, ideaal voor wateren met weinig ruimte achter de stek.

Als bedrijf dat continu naar nieuwe oplossingen zoekt besteden we speciale aandacht aan de kleinere materialen, de zaken die daadwerkelijk je vangstresultaat kunnen

De Nieuwe Matrix hengel range heeft zeer lovende kritieken mogen ontvangen. BY MARK SAWYER [email protected] is the first look at what I strongly believe could be the best range of short-to-medium-distance commercial feeder rods ever to have been produced.The 10ft Matrix Carpmaster Feeder is the longest blank in the four-rod set, which has been built using a unique method that eliminates the need for a mid-blank joint. Obviously there are joints – two of them in fact, otherwise we would be looking at a one-piece 10ft rod – a great idea, but highly inconvenient.However, both joints are placed on the blank in such a way that they have very little in�uence over the rod’s actual performance…and boy does it perform!Firstly, let’s look at the handle segment. This has been built with a 34cm length of carbon section, which is �nished with a male spigot, which in turn �ts into the single mid-section. Basically, it’s an elongated dolly-butt, but the length is crucial to the rod’s ease of storage, as well as adding to its casting potential.The second joint is straightforward enough, and has been formed to accommodate special Carpmaster quivertips (there are four available in the range from 0.75oz through to 2oz).These bespoke quivers are slightly shorter and slimmer in diameter than most standard

ones, but blend into the Carpmaster blank’s playing curvature so e�ortlessly that the jointed area is virtually undetectable.The positive consequences of having such a long single section in front of you are, at �rst, pretty much unnoticeable. The rod feels crisp and light, and maybe even a bit too tippy for a feeder rod. A quick pull-round on the tip reveals a very impressive semi-parabolic action, with a seamless �sh-playing hoop that shows no sign of �at spotting. But all this is secondary when it comes to what happens when you actually start �shing with this innovative little rod. Let’s start with casting. The tip speed the 10ft blank is capable of generating is nonsense for such a short rod and really does belie its diminutive stature. My guess would be that, at a push, the rod would be capable of casting a 30g-plus gram feeder 50 metres with ease.Bite registration on the shortened quivertips really does have to be seen to be believed. For those that have experienced savage takes when using braided mainlines with feeder rods – the Matrix Carpmaster delivers the same rod-wrenching bite indication – only with mono�lament on the reel!Next comes the blank’s playing action – it’s sweeter than dipping a sherbet-coated lolly into a jar of syrup before covering it with sugar, and will leave you drooling for more. Forget about non-lock-up parabolic actions, this rod re-writes the playing action book, and has the capacity to handle anything from a small F1, right through to a 20lb lump with equal aplomb.

It’s di�cult to write enough eulogies about this rod, it really is that good. Take my advice; be it a case of beg, steal or borrow, you need to have a few hours on the bank with this dreamy little wand – I’m positive you’ll be just as impressed as I was. RRP £134.99 SSP £119.99

But once I had gotten used to it, I was surprised at just how pokey it was, and I found myself being able to launch a feeder a fair old way.What really surprised me though, was just how positive the bite indication seemed to be, with every fish seeming to rattle the tip right round, it was very impressive indeed. The rod’s playing action was completely flawless, and perfect for carp. And

although I have never been a big fan of short rods, it felt as though it would handle anything from the smallest to the biggest of fish with no danger of a hook-pull.Would I buy one? Well, although I thought that the rod was well worth the money, personally I would have preferred it with a much longer handle (18 inches), so maybe I wouldn’t invest, unless I could get it fitted with an extention piece.”

a formidable name in the trade for many,

many years. And, he’s

responsible for a great deal

of the developments that

shop. So, what’s new

about these rods and what

makes them different

holdall already? I wanted

to � nd out.I joined Ricky on the

banks of the famous

primary focus of the day being to shoot

a Matrix DVD. However, this gave Ricky

and me the chance to have a proper

chinwag about the brand and each of the

new products that’ll be hitting the shops

you could think of, from the shorter

version of the three for little lobs and

‘underarming’ on the pole line to the 10ft

model that’ll chuck a loaded feeder 35 to

40 metres with ease. In brief, this range

precisely covers the vast majority of

commercial-water tip � shing that we do.

Anyway, I’d watched

Ricky catch a few � sh on

the rods while we were

� lming, but I was itching

to have a go myself.

Eventually I managed to

get him off his box so I

could have a chuck and

catch a couple.It’s often hard to describe

a rod until you’ve had a go

with it yourself; it’s more a

‘feel’ thing than something

you can effectively

describe.As soon as I cast Ricky’s

feeder out I could tell the difference. I

could punch it perfectly straight, down

exactly the same ‘hole’ every cast with

no fuss, thanks to the power in the butt

section.Don’t think that these are tools solely

for carp, though; they’re soft enough for

skimmers and other silver � sh that can

play an oh-so-vital part in your catches

during winter.However, I’ve saved one of my

favourite points till last. As soon as I

clapped eyes on these rods I noticed the

extended distance between the butt ring

and reel seat. “What’s the thinking behind that?”

I asked Ricky, who then proceeded to

dismantle the rod to pack it away and

it all became clear. While the rings have

been placed in the optimum position to

get the best from the blank, the position

of the butt ring is placed to align with

your reel’s spool for transportation –

very neat, and one of those brilliant ideas

that proved to me that Ricky has thought

about little other than setting this brand

up to be a very serious contender.

There’s also a very clever little

component referred to at the moment

as ‘the plug’. This basically does away

with any bands to secure your made-up

rods together. All you do is push the

designated sections into the recesses and

twist to lock in place.

BY MARK SAWYER [email protected] is the first look at what I strongly believe could be the best range of short-to-medium-distance commercial feeder rods ever to have been produced.The 10ft Matrix Carpmaster Feeder is the longest blank in the four-rod set, which has been built using a unique method that eliminates the need for a mid-blank joint. Obviously there are joints – two of them in fact, otherwise we would be looking at a one-piece 10ft rod – a great idea, but highly inconvenient.However, both joints are placed on the blank in such a way that they have very little in�uence over the rod’s actual performance…and boy does it perform!Firstly, let’s look at the handle segment. This has been built with a 34cm length of carbon section, which is �nished with a male spigot, which in turn �ts into the single mid-section. Basically, it’s an elongated dolly-butt, but the length is crucial to the rod’s ease of storage, as well as adding to its casting potential.The second joint is straightforward enough, and has been formed to accommodate special Carpmaster quivertips (there are four available in the range from 0.75oz through to 2oz).These bespoke quivers are slightly shorter and slimmer in diameter than most standard

ones, but blend into the Carpmaster blank’s playing curvature so e�ortlessly that the jointed area is virtually undetectable.The positive consequences of having such a long single section in front of you are, at �rst, pretty much unnoticeable. The rod feels crisp and light, and maybe even a bit too tippy for a feeder rod. A quick pull-round on the tip reveals a very impressive semi-parabolic action, with a seamless �sh-playing hoop that shows no sign of �at spotting. But all this is secondary when it comes to what happens when you actually start �shing with this innovative little rod. Let’s start with casting. The tip speed the 10ft blank is capable of generating is nonsense for such a short rod and really does belie its diminutive stature. My guess would be that, at a push, the rod would be capable of casting a 30g-plus gram feeder 50 metres with ease.Bite registration on the shortened quivertips really does have to be seen to be believed. For those that have experienced savage takes when using braided mainlines with feeder rods – the Matrix Carpmaster delivers the same rod-wrenching bite indication – only with mono�lament on the reel!Next comes the blank’s playing action – it’s sweeter than dipping a sherbet-coated lolly into a jar of syrup before covering it with sugar, and will leave you drooling for more. Forget about non-lock-up parabolic actions, this rod re-writes the playing action book, and has the capacity to handle anything from a small F1, right through to a 20lb lump with equal aplomb.

With air and water temperatures diving and

bites on the commercials becoming scarce, I

liked the sound of the lightweight, compact,

Carpmaster 9ft Feeder to test, and this

unusual rod turned out to be a winter winner.

An unusual configuration means you get a

short, 65cm (2ft 1in) butt section, the main

1.62m (5ft 4in) fish-playing rod blank and

two, long, very fine push-in glass quivertips

rated at 0.5g and 0.75g. Plug these together

for a sensitive 2.7m (9ft) quiver rod capable of

showing the smallest bite and fish reel lines

from 3lb to 8lb on the commercial carp pools.

The main advantage of this configuration is

that the whole of the rod’s lovely fish-playing

action comes from a single section that plugs

directly into the short butt. Because there’s no

joint in this piece, technicians can engineer

the perfect playing action with a balance

between shock-absorbing upper ‘bend’ to

protect fragile hooklinks and power lower

down the blank to stop big match carp.

The main disadvantage is that it’s not as

easy to transport the rod ready ‘made-up’ in

a sleeve, as it would be with a rod of two equal

length sections. The rod is supplied with a unique EVA

Transport Holder Block which the short butt

but I’m not a fan of this set-up. I’ll continue to

use the red elastic bands the postmen insist on

slinging on my drive every morning.

Fishing a 5lb reel line and 0.13mm diameter

(4lb 12oz) hooklink with breadflake on a size

12 hook I caught carp to 6lb in a thoroughly

enjoyable session on a tough, bitterly cold day.

The ultra fine glass quivertips show every

movement but even with the ‘heavier’ 0.75oz

tip in place the strong undertow on the long,

oblong-shaped test pool kept pulling them

right round, even though I normally like to

fish a fairly slack tip in winter (pics below).

For fishing small bombs and micro feeders

weighing up to 1oz at up to 25m range, when

you really need to pick out the bites, it’s a good

’un! Contrary to it’s fragile appearance, it will

also happily land carp into double figures.

There are also 8ft and 10ft versions.

Strangely, both cost an identical £119.99,

compared to the £124.99 for the 9ft model.

the new Carpmaster feeder rods special.

“Traditional short rods of up to 10ft have a

single joint in the middle of the blank. The new

Matrix rods have the joint just above the handle,

enabling the blank to achieve as near a perfect

action as is possible with a short rod.

“We have always followed tradition with the

construction of short rods, but when you think

about how the blank flexes, the centre joint is

positioned in totally the wrong place with

regard to casting power and fish-playing

action. The one problem with odd jointed rods

is that they are di�cult to transport.

“However, our unique adaptor block now

makes it possible to carry the rods around

ready made-up. Each section is held straight

and firm, without rod bands, and the parallel

section configuration even prevents the

quivertips from bending over,” added Ricky.

you could think of, from the shorter

version of the three for little lobs and

‘underarming’ on the pole line to the 10ft

model that’ll chuck a loaded feeder 35 to

40 metres with ease. In brief, this range

precisely covers the vast majority of

commercial-water tip � shing that we do.

Anyway, I’d watched

Ricky catch a few � sh on

the rods while we were

� lming, but I was itching

to have a go myself.

Eventually I managed to

get him off his box so I

could have a chuck and

catch a couple.It’s often hard to describe

a rod until you’ve had a go

with it yourself; it’s more a

‘feel’ thing than something

you can effectively

describe.As soon as I cast Ricky’s

feeder out I could tell the difference. I

could punch it perfectly straight, down

exactly the same ‘hole’ every cast with

no fuss, thanks to the power in the butt

section.Don’t think that these are tools solely

for carp, though; they’re soft enough for

skimmers and other silver � sh that can

play an oh-so-vital part in your catches

during winter.However, I’ve saved one of my

favourite points till last. As soon as I

clapped eyes on these rods I noticed the

extended distance between the butt ring

and reel seat. “What’s the thinking behind that?”

I asked Ricky, who then proceeded to

dismantle the rod to pack it away and

it all became clear. While the rings have

been placed in the optimum position to

get the best from the blank, the position

of the butt ring is placed to align with

your reel’s spool for transportation –

very neat, and one of those brilliant ideas

that proved to me that Ricky has thought

about little other than setting this brand

up to be a very serious contender.

There’s also a very clever little

component referred to at the moment

as ‘the plug’. This basically does away

with any bands to secure your made-up

rods together. All you do is push the

designated sections into the recesses and

twist to lock in place.

There are many other products

a seatbox and accessories. As you read

Het handgreepdeel van alle Horizon Feeder hengels heeft een extra lange pensluiting. Deze extra lengte maakt dit deel stijver en geeft meer werpvermogen.

De verwisselbare tips gaan perfect over in de hengel en zijn zo getaperd dat ze optimale beetindicatie geven. Ook deze hebben grote ogen zodat leaderknopen er doorheen kunnen.

De hengels zijn voorzien van grote dunne ogen die optimaal zijn gepositioneerd voor maximale worpen en geschikt zijn voor zowel nylon als braid.

HORIZON HENGELSHorizon feederhengels zijn specifi ek ontworpen voor het vissen op grote afstand op de grootste Europese wateren. Ze zijn gebouwd met topkwaliteit high modulus carbon blanks met geavanceerd taper ontwerp voor maximale werpprestaties

Desondanks behouden ze toch de gevoeligheid voor het drillen die topwedstrijdvissers vereisen.

Alle Horizon hengels hebben een kort handgreepdeel met een lange pensluiting. Dit vergroot de stijfheid en kracht van de hengel onderin zodat enorme afstanden kunnen worden geworpen. De midden- en topdelen zijn langer dan gebruikelijk wat hun drilkwaliteiten vergroot en de kracht beter van de onderzijde overbrengt naar de top. Dit ontwerp maakt opgetuigd transport ook heel eenvoudig met hulp van een transportblok.

Alle quivertips zijn uitgebalanceerd voor de actie van de blank en hebben grote wrijvingsvrije ogen voor gebruik van shockleaders.

MATRIX SUPERBOX 1De Nieuwe Matrix Superbox 1 is een top-of-the-range zitmand ontworpen voor de meest veeleisende wedstrijdvissers. De Superbox 1 is gebouwd op een hol en rond stevig aluminium chassis en beschikt over 25mm ronde poten voor stabiliteit. Allen zijn telescopisch instelbaar voor een perfecte opstelling. Uit het oogpunt van veelzijdigheid is ook een ‘frame-only’ uitvoering verkrijgbaar waarmee vissers hun eigen laden en opslag indeling kunnen kiezen.

1. POLE SEATDeze topkwaliteit pole seat is comfortabel en praktisch met een sterke gegoten uitsparing voor de achterkant van de vaste hengel. Inclusief een ondiepe tuigenlade.

2. WATERPASEen waterpas waarmee je een perfect horizontale opstelling kunt realiseren, zit aan de voorkant van de pole seat verborgen achter een beschermend schuifje.

3. FAIL SAFE DRAWER UNITSDit lade-systeem werkt feilloos. Het systeem is sterk en veilig en werkt modulair zodat je je eigen indeling kunt maken. Ze zijn er in twee versies – Deep (50mm) en Shallow (25mm).

4. BOVENSTE UNIT VERBINDINGDe bovenste units worden verbonden aan een plaat die aan de bovenkant van het chassis frame zit. Het voordeel hiervan is dat je iedere unit direct aan het frame kunt bevestigen.

5. EXTRA OPSLAGExtra lade units kunnen onder de basis opslagunits worden geplaatst. Deze schuiven eenvoudig op hun plaats en worden met een quick release clip op hun plek gehouden.

6. TELESCOPISCHE POTENDe 25mm ronde poten kunnen worden ingesteld naar de gewenste zithoogte. Extra aanpassingen kunnen worden gedaan met de interne vierkante poot zodat je een perfect horizontale setup krijgt.

Het gebruik van de juiste zitmand en accessoires is belangrijk als je effectief wilt kunnen vissen, de Matrix range is precies voor dat doel ontworpen. Om op de meeste populaire zitmanden te kunnen passen hebben alle Matrix Seatbox accessoires een 25mm ronde Snag-Free sluiting die voor een eenvoudig instelbare en stevige bevestiging zorgt.De range bevat momenteel een selectie Accessory Arms, Groundbait Bowl Hoops en een Pole Sock, Side Trays en Feeder Arms die later dit jaar verschijnen. Matrix produceert ook een briljante Super Flat Pole Roller in twee maten met een unieke Ground Spike waarmee je hem zonder poten kunt gebruiken – perfect voor hoge steile oevers, andere modellen Rollers komen later dit jaar uit.

TENSION SUPPORTSSchuivende Tension Supports schuiven de poten op hun plaats en bieden zo een robuust frame. Deze vouwen plat voor transport zodat de roller makkelijk te vervoeren is.

ACCESSOIRESAls vissers begrijpen we volledig hoe kleine zaken als accessoires een enorm verschil voor je vangsten kunnen betekenen.Binnen de accessoires range zul je Method feeders met unieke designs zien die het gebruik van groot aas effectiever maken, en een Mould die zo eenvoudig in het gebruik is dat we ons afvragen waarom we dit niet eerder hebben bedacht.

Er is ook een range pole pots met felgekleurde verwisselbare deksels waarmee je nauwkeuriger tegen de overzijde kunt voeren. Met een volledige range elastiek producten met de naam Linx kun je je elastiek setups naar kleur rangschikken. De speciale ‘Squeeze and Feed’ Method Mould is de beste die we ooit hebben gebruikt. Hij werkt met zeer veel verschillende soorten voer en pellets tot 2 mm.

Vul de vorm met voer (of pelllets) druk het vast, draai de vorm en druk tenslotte de gevulde feeder uit de vorm.

VULLEN VAN DE MOULDJe kunt zowel voer als pellets in de ‘Squeeze & Feed’ Mould gebruiken. Het unieke ontwerp maakt het gebruik van zeer veel verschillende mixen (inclusief plakkerig voer) en pellets tot 2 mm mogelijk.

LADEN VAN DE FEEDERDruk de feeder in de vorm. Door het diepe ontwerp kun je meer voer gebruiken dan bij andere vormpjes. Hierdoor kun je de plek nog aantrekkelijker voor vis maken.

VRIJMAKEN VAN DE FEEDERNa het vastdrukken van het voer is het alleen nog maar nodig om de vorm om te keren en een lichte druk op de zijkanten uit te oefenen. De gevulde feeder komt dan makkelijk vrij.

KLAAR OM TE WERPENOmdat de geladen feeder uit de vorm wordt gedrukt (in plaats van er uit te worden getrokken), zit het voer stevig op zijn plaats en kan er optimaal mee worden geworpen.

SQUEEZE AND FEED MOULD EIGENSCHAPPEN1. Door de diepe vorm kan er meer voer worden gebruikt

en is er meer ruimte om het voer aan te drukken.

2. De unieke vorm, met de speciale gevormde onderkant en zijkanten, zorgt voor een probleemloos losdrukken van de gevulde feeder.

De Matrix hakenrange bevat drie modellen die vrijwel alle

typen modern wedstrijdvissen afdekken. De Carp Baggers

zijn weerhaakloze bledhaken voor het zwaardere werk

terwijl de Carp Riggers en Feeder Riggers een naar

buiten gebogen oog hebben voor knotless knor hair rigs.

Het naar buiten gekeerde oog heeft de perfecte hoek om de

beste prikeigenschappen te geven bij een knotless knot.

HAKENRIGGER HAAK KENMERKEN1. De hoek van het naar buiten gebogen oog is Cruciaal voor

de prikeigenschappen bij gebruik van knotless knots en hair rigs. Als deze te recht is, zoals bij normale haken met oog, zal de haak te ver naar binnen draaien en zal deze minder gauw vlees pakken. Is deze te ver naar buiten gebogen dan zal deze in lijn zijn met de onderlijn en niet in een agressieve hoek staan. Bij Matrix Rigger haken staat het oog onder de perfecte hoek wat voor maximale haakprestaties zorgt.

2. De bocht van Matrix haken is een Combinatie van round en crystal bend, gecombineerd met een wide gape. Dit zorgt voor de beste oplossing voor het presenteren van tal van aassoorten en vergoot de haakprestaties.

3. Het binnenwaarts gebogen oog staat in de perfecte hoek voor diepe penetratie. Het hoge carbongehalte van het staaldraad gecombineerd met chemisch slijpen zorgt voor een sterke en vlijmscherpe punt die sterk genoeg is voor zwaardere omstandigheden zonder het risico op bot raken.

De reeks Matrix dobbers beslaat nagenoeg alle

vormen van matchvissen: van het vissen op karper

tot het delicate vissen met vers de vase.

DOBBERS CARP De reeks dobbers voor het karpervissen is ideaal voor het vissen met de vaste stok op karperputten. Door grote antennes kunnen ze perfect worden ingezet wanneer er met groot aas dient te worden gevist. Ze zijn uitgerust met carbon of glasvezel stelen. De glasvezel stelen lopen door het drijflichaam heen en monden uit in een holle tip.

POTLOOD De laatste jaren zijn ‘potloodvormige’ dobbers zowel bij het karper- als bij het witvissen populair geworden. De drie modellen in de Matrix reeks dekken alle vormen van visserij.

De Serie 4 is voorzien van een dikke antenne voor gebruik met groot aas, terwijl de Series 5 en 6 meer geschikt zijn voor kleiner aas en/of het vissen op witvis. Alle dobbers kunnen optimaal worden uitgelood.

WITVISDe eerste van de nieuwe reeks witvisdobbers van Matrix bestaat uit een serie veelzijdige pennen. In de loop van 2012 zullen er meer modellen volgen.

De Serie 7 is een veelzijdige pen voor ondiep water voorzien van een kunststof antenne die makkelijk kan worden uitgelood. De Serie 9 is een briljante dobber voor het vissen op de bodem met verschillende aassoorten. De Serie 10 is ontwikkeld voor het subtiel presenteren van het aas en heeft een gevoelige antenne van grafiet.

SIGHT TIPGoed zichtbare pennen voor diepere en stilstaande wateren. Deze dobbers zijn ideaal voor het vissen met ruwer weer. Ze hebben lange stelen en extra lange antennes van grafiet voorzien van een kunststof tip. Deze lange pennen zorgen er voor dat het drijflichaam bij golven onder water blijft en de de bewegingen van de dobber worden gereduceerd.
