7
dat komt nooit, nee nooit meer terug.
Ach Margrietje, de rozen zullen bloeien,
ook al zie je mij niet meer.

BRAND IN MOKUM
Brand in Mokum, brand in Mokum,
zie eens ginder, zie eens ginder
brand brand, brand brand,
2x
Allons voir, oui oui oui, allons voir, non non non,
buveurs.
CLEMENTINE
In a cavern, in a canyon, excavating for a mine,
Dwelt a miner, forty-niner, and his daughter Clementine.
Ref.
Oh my darling, oh my darling, oh my darling Clementine
You are lost and gone forever, dreadful sorry, Clementine.
Light she was, and like a fairy, and her shoes were number
nine,
Herring boxes without topses, sandals were for Clementine.
Walking lightly as a fairy, though her shoes were number nine,
Sometimes tripping, lightly skipping, lovely girl, my
Clementine.
Drove she ducklings to the water, ev'ry morning just at nine,
11
Hit her foot against a splinter, fell into the foaming brine.
Ruby lips above the water, blowing bubbles soft and fine,
But alas, I was no swimmer, neither was my Clementine.
I'm so lonely, lost without her, wish I'd had a fishing line,
Which I might have cast about her, might have saved my
Clementine.
How I missed her, how I missed her, how I missed my
Clementine,
Till I kissed her little sister, and forgot my Clementine.
COCKLES AND MUSSELS
In Dublin's fair city,
Where girls are so pretty,
I first set my eyes on sweet Molly Malone,
As she pushed her wheelbarrow
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
12
Ref. Alive, alive oh! alive, alive oh!
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
Now she was a fishmonger,
And sure twas no wonder,
For so were her mother and father before,
And they each wheeled their barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!
She died of a fever,
And no one could save her,
And that was the end of sweet Molly Malone.
Now her ghost wheels her barrow,
Through streets broad and narrow,
Crying, "Cockles and mussels, alive, alive oh"!

Tiralala, tiralala, tiralala, tiralala, hoi hoi.
16
DON’T FENCE ME IN
Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
17
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze,
Listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in.
Just turn me loose, let me straddle my old saddle,
Underneath the western skies.
On my Cayuse, let me wander over yonder
Till I see the mountains rise.
I want to ride to the ridge where the west commences
Gaze at the moon till I lose my senses
Can't look at hovels and I can't stand fences
Don't fence me in.
Oh, give me land, lots of land under starry skies above,
Don't fence me in.
Let me ride through the wide open country that I love,
Don't fence me in.
Let me be by myself in the evenin' breeze,
Listen to the murmur of the cottonwood trees,
Send me off forever but I ask you please,
Don't fence me in.

Gonna lay down my sword and shield

Ain't gonna study war no more.
I ain't gonna study war no more,
Study war no more,
Study war no more,
I ain't gonna study war no more,
Study war no more,

Natuur is onze woning, daar gaan we hand in hand.
20
ENE GOD ALLEEN
Eén, één, één is één, ene God alleen
Zeven sacramenten zonder complimenten
GOOD NIGHT, LADIES
Good night, ladies! Good night, ladies!
Good night, ladies! We're sad to see you go.
Merrily we roll along, roll along, roll along.
Merrily we roll along o'er the deep blue sea.
Farewell, ladies! Farewell, ladies!
21
Farewell, ladies! We're sad to see you go.
Merrily we roll along, roll along, roll along.
Merrily we roll along o'er the deep blue sea.
Sweet dreams, ladies! Sweet dreams, ladies!
Sweet dreams, ladies! We're sad to see you go.
Merrily we roll along, roll along, roll along.
Merrily we roll along o'er the deep blue sea.

HOME ON THE RANGE
Oh, give me a home where the buffalo roam,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the sky is not clouded all day.
Ref.
Home, home on the range,
Where the deer and the antelope play,
Where seldom is heard a discouraging word
And the sky is not clouded all day.
How often at night, when the heavens are bright
With the light of the glittering stars,
Have I stood here amazed and asked as I gazed
If their glory exceeds this of ours.
23
The air is so pure, the breezes so free,
The zephyrs so balmy and light,
I would not exchange my home here to range
For all of the cities so bright.
HOW MANY ROADS
How many roads must a man walk down
Before you call him a man?
How many seas must a white dove sail
Before she sleeps in the sand?
How many times must the cannon balls fly
Before they're forever banned?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many times must a man look up
Before he can see the sky?
How many ears must one man have
Before he can hear people cry?
How many deaths will it take till he knows
That too many people have died?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
24
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
How many years can a mountain exist
Before it's washed to the sea?
How many years can some people exist
Before they're allowed to be free?
How many times can a man turn his head,
Pretending he just doesn't see?
The answer, my friend, is blowin' in the wind,
The answer is blowin' in the wind.
I DON’T LIKE TO SWIM
I don’t like to ride on a veloke
ride on a veloke, ride on a veloke
I don’t like to ride on a veloke
I’m the kings navy,

I’m the kings navy.
I don’ like to swim in a poempebak
swim in a poempebak, swim in a poempebak
I don’ like to swim in a poempebak
25
I’m the kings navy, 3x

My Bonnie is over the ocean, my Bonnie is over the sea.
My Bonnie is over the ocean, oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.
Ref.
Bring back, bring back, oh bring back my Bonnie to me, to me,
Bring back, bring back, oh, bring back my Bonnie to me.
Last night as I lay on my pillow, last night as I lay on my

Last night as I lay on my pillow, I dreamed that my Bonnie was
dead.
The wind has blown over the ocean, the wind has blown over the
sea,
The wind has blown over the ocean, and brought back my Bonnie
to me.

MY OLD KENTUCKY HOME
The sun shines bright in the old Kentucky home
Tis summer, the people are gay;
The corn top's ripe and the meadow's in the bloom,
While the birds make music all the day;
The young folks roll on the little cabin floor,
All merry, all happy, and bright,
By'n by hard times comes a-knocking at the door,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
Weep no more, my lady,
Oh weep no more today!
We will sing one song for the old Kentucky home,
For the old Kentucky home far away.
They hunt no more for the 'possum and the coon,
On meadow, the hill and the shore,
They sing no more by the glimmer of the moon,
On the bench by that old cabin door;
The day goes by like a shadow o'er the heart,
With sorrow where all was delight;
The time has come when the people have to part,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
38
The head must bow and the back will have to bend,
Wherever the people may go;
A few more days and the trouble all will end
In the field where sugar-canes may grow;
A few more days for to tote the weary load,
No matter, 'twill never be light,
A few more days till we totter on the road,
Then my old Kentucky home, good night!
NOBODY KNOWS
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, nobody knows but Jesus.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, glory Hallelujah!
Sometimes I’m up, sometimes I’m down, oh yes, Lord.
Sometimes I’m almost to de ground, oh yes, Lord.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, nobody knows but Jesus.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, glory Hallelujah!
Although you see me goin’ ‘long so, oh yes, Lord.
I have my trials here below, oh yes, Lord.
39
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, nobody knows but Jesus.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, glory Hallelujah!
If you get there before I do, oh yes, Lord.
Tell all my friends I’m coming too, oh yes, Lord.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, nobody knows but Jesus.
Nobody knows de trouble I’ve seen, glory Hallelujah!
O FLOWER OF SCOTLAND
O Flower of Scotland, when will we see,
Your like again, that fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen and stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward, tae think again.
The Hills are bare now, and Autumn leaves
lie thick and still, o'er land that is lost now,
Which those so dearly held that stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward, tae think again.
40
Those days are past now, and in the past
they must remain, but we can still rise now,
And be the nation again that stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward, tae think again.
0 Flower of Scotland, when will we see
your like again, that fought and died for,
Your wee bit Hill and Glen, and stood against him,
Proud Edward's Army,
And sent him homeward, tae think again.

OH, HEER, D’AVOND IS NEERGEKOMEN
Oh Heer, d'avond is neergekomen,
de zonne zonk, het duister klom.
De winden doorruisen de bomen
en verre sterren staan alom.
Wij knielen neer om U te zingen,
in 't slapend woud, ons avondlied.
Wij danken U voor wat w'ontvingen
en vragen, Heer, verlaat ons niet.
Knielen, knielen, knielen wij neder,
door de stilte weerklinkt onze beê.
Luist'rend fluist'ren kruinen mee
OH SHENANDOAH
Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you, away you rolling river,
Oh Shenandoah, I long to hear you, away, I'm bound away
Cross the wide Missouri.
42
Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter, away you rolling river,
I'll take her 'cross your rollin' water, away, I'm bound away
Cross the wide Missouri.
For seven years since last I saw you, away you rolling river,
For seven years since last I saw you, away, I'm bound away
Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah, I love your daughter, away you rolling river,
Oh Shenandoah, I'll come to claim her, away, I'm bound away
Cross the wide Missouri.
Oh Shenandoah, she's bound to leave you, away you rolling
river,
Oh Shenandoah, I'll not deceive you, away, I'm bound away
Cross the wide Missouri.
OH, SUSANNA
I came from Alabama, wid my banjo on my knee,
I'm gwyne to Louisiana, my true love for to see;
It rain'd all night the day I left, the weather it was dry,
The sun so hot, I froze to death, Susanna don't you cry.
43
Oh! Susanna, Oh don't you cry for me,
I've come from Alabama, wid my banjo on my knee.
I had a dream de odder night, when ebery ting was still,
I thought I saw Susanna, a comin down the hill;
The buck-wheat cake was in her mouth, the tear was in her eye;
Says I, "I'm coming from the South, Susanna don't you cry."
I jumped aboard de telegraph, and trabbled down de riber,
De lectric fluid magnified, and killed five hundred chigger.
The bullgine bust, de horse run off, I really thought I'd die;
I shut my eyes to hold my breath, Susanna don't you cry.
I soon will be in New Orleans, and den I'll look around,
And when I find Susanna, I will fall upon de ground.
And if I do not find her, dis darkie'll surely die,
And when I'm dead and buried, Susanna, don't you cry.
OH, WHEN THE SAINTS
Oh, when the saints go marching in,
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in
44
And when the sun begins to shine
And when the sun begins to shine
Lord, how I want to be in that number
When the sun begins to shine
Oh, when the saints go marching in,
Oh, when the saints go marching in
Lord how I want to be in that number
When the saints go marching in
OLD MACDONALD
Old Macdonald had a farm, hia hia hoo,
And on his farm he had a cow, hia hia hoo,
With a "moo-moo" here and a "moo-moo" there
Here a "moo" there a "moo", everywhere a "moo-moo"
Old Macdonald had a farm, hia hia hoo.

Boemtadara, boemtadara,
(si pianta, si cresca, si fiora, si copa, si mola, si mianga)
RED RIVER VALLEY
From this valley they say you are going
We will miss your bright eyes and sweet smile
For they say you are taking the sunshine
That has brightened our path for a while
47
Ref.
Come and sit by my side if you love me
Do not hasten to bid me adieu
But remember the Red River Valley
And the cowboy who loved you so true
Won't you think of the valley you're leaving
Oh how lonely, how sad it will be?
Oh think of the fond heart you're breaking
And the grief you are causing to me
As you go to your home by the ocean
May you never forget those sweet hours
That we spent in the Red River Valley
And the love we exchanged mid the flowers
ROCK MY SOUL
Rock my soul in the blossom of Abraham 3x
Ooh, Rock my soul
So high, I can't get over I 3x
Ooh, Rock my soul

So low, I can't get under it 3x
Ooh, Rock my soul
So wide, I can't get round of it 3x
Ooh, Rock my soul
Moest gij heen, moest gij heen, moest gij heen.
Ref
Over zee, over zee, over zee.

SARIE MARAIS
My Sarie Marais is so ver van my hart
Ref.
O bring my trug na die ou Transvaal, daar waar my Sarie woon
Daar woon my Sarie Marais
Daar woon my Sarie Marais
Ek was so bang, dat die kakies my sou vang
My liewelingspersoon sal seker ook daar wees
Om my met 'n kus te beloon.

SHE’LL BE COMING ROUND THE MOUNTAIN
She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes
She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes
She'll be coming round the mountain, she'll be coming round
the mountain,
She'll be coming round the mountain when she comes
She'll be driving six white horses when she comes
We'll all be out to meet her when she comes
She'll be wearing red pyjamas when she comes
She’ll have to sleep with Grandma when she comes
We'll be singing Hallelujah when she comes
We’ll all have chicken and dumplings when she comes

THE STREETS OF LAREDO
As I walked out in the streets of Laredo,
As I walked out in Laredo one day,
I spied a poor cowboy wrapped up in white linen,
Wrapped up in white linen and cold as the clay.
I see by your outfit that you are a cowboy,
These words he did say as I boldly stepped by.
Come sit down beside me and hear my sad story;
I was shot in the breast and I know I must die.
It was once in the saddle I used to go dashing,
It was once in the saddle I used to go gay.
t’was first to drinking and then to card playing,
Got shot in the breast, I am dying today.
THIS LAND IS YOUR LAND
Ref.
This land is your land, this land is my land
From California, to the New York Island
52
From the redwood forest, to the gulf stream waters
This land was made for you and me
As I was walking a ribbon of highway
I saw above me an endless skyway
I saw below me a golden valley
This land was made for you and me
I've roamed and rambled and followed my footsteps
To the sparkling sands of her diamond deserts
And all around me a voice was calling
This land was made for you and me
When the sun comes shining as I was strolling
And the wheat fields waving and the dust clouds rolling
As the fog was lifting a voice was chanting
This land was made for you and me
THE WILD ROVER
I've been a wild rover for many a year
And I spent all my money on whiskey and beer
53
But now I'm returning with gold in great store
And I never will play the wild rover no more
Ref.
And it's no, nay, never, nay never no more
Will I play the wild rover, no never, no more.
I went to an alehouse I used to frequent
And I told the landlady my money was spent
I asked her for credit she answered me nay
Such a customer as you I can have every day
I then took from me pocket ten sovereigns bright
And the landlady's eyes opened with delight
She said I've got whiskey and wines of the best
And the words that you told me were only in jest
I then went to my parents, confess what I've done
And I asked them to pardon their prodigal son
And as they caressed me as oft' times before
I never will play the wild rover no more

TOM DOOLEY
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Hang down your head and cry
Hang down your head, Tom Dooley,
Poor boy, you're bound to die.
I met her on the mountain, there I took her life
Met her on the mountain, stabbed her with my knife
This time tomorrow, reckon where I'll be
Hadn't-a been for Grayson, I'd-a been in Tennessee
This time tomorrow reckon where I'll be
Down in some lonesome valley hangin' from a white oak tree
TREK AAN DE RIEMEN WIJ VAREN
Trek aan de riemen wij varen
flink op de maat van ons lied.
Klieft onze boot door de baren,
weg alle zorgen en verdriet !
55
Ohé kameraad (2X)
vaar mee kameraad. (2X)
De zeilen, haal op, haal op,
de vlag in de top, in de top !
Zijn wij niet jong en vol leven,
wij vrezen regen noch zon.
Stormen zij doen ons niet beven,
't druipende nat: " 'k lach erom! "
Dreigen de stormen van 't leven,
vikings dan goed opgelet.
Volgt het parool u gegeven,
't klinkt: "sta ja man, sta je wet!"
TSJIKKELAKKE
Tsjikkelakke, tsjikkelakke, tsjouw, tsjouw, tsjouw,
Boemelakke, boemelakke, bouw, bouw, bouw,

Jamboree, jamboree, jamboree.

VRIENDEN, KOM ZIT NEDER IN DE RONDE
Vrienden, kom zit neder in de ronde,
en genieten wij van deze stonde.
Al te samen opgewekt en blij,
schuif wat dichter, dichter, dichter, dichter bij. (2X)
Zie de zon is weer in 't land gekomen
en we mogen al te samen dromen.
Van de zomer en de blijde mei,
schuif wat dichter, dichter, dichter, dichter bij. (2X)
Waar gij later allen moge varen
blijf in 't harte trouw de eed bewaren.
Ga in 't leven altijd zij aan zij,
schuif wat dichter, dichter, dichter, dichter bij. (2X)

WAAR IN ’T BRONSGROEN EIKENHOUT
Waar in 't bronsgroen eikenhout 't nachtegaaltje zingt
over 't malse korenveld 't lied des leeuw'riks klinkt.
Daar is mijn vaderland, Limburgs dierbaar oord. (2X)
Daar is mijn vaderland, Limburgs dierbaar oord. (2X)
Waar der vadern schone taal klinkt met held're kracht
waar men kloek en flink van aard vreemde praal veracht.
Eigen zeden, eigen schoon 't hart des volks bekoort.
Daar is mijn vaderland, Limburgs dierbaar oord. (2X)

WAT ZULLEN WE DRINKEN
Wat zullen we drinken zeven dagen lang
Wat zullen we drinken, wat een dorst (2x)
Er is genoeg voor iedereen
Dus drinken we samen
Dus werken we samen zeven dagen lang
Dus werken we samen niet alleen
Dus werken we samen zeven dagen lang
Dus werken we samen niet alleen
Eerst moeten we vechten, niemand weet hoelang
Eerst moeten we vechten voor ons belang (2x)
Voor het geluk van iedereen
Dus vechten we samen, samen staan we sterk
59
WHAT SHALL WE DO WITH THE DRUNKEN SAILOR
What shall we do with the drunken sailor (3x)
Early in the morning.
Hurray and up she rises
Hurray and up she rises
Hurray and up she rises
Early in the morning.
Put him in the long boat till he's sober (3x)
Early in the morning.
Pull out the plug and wet him all over (3x)
Early in the morning.
Put him in the scuppers with a hosepipe on him (3x)
Early in the morning.
Heave him by the leg in a running bowline (3x)

Early in the morning.
That's what we'll do with the drunken sailor (3x)
Early in the morning.
