Jetzt geht’s weiter!Now that you have successfully completed Deutsch Aktuell 1, you have acquired a basic foundation for communicating in German. You have developed skills in listening, speaking, reading and writing, as well as gained an insight into the way of life among people in different regions of German-speaking countries (Germany, Austria, Switzerland).

You already know how to ask and answer questions about school activities, entertainment and leisure-time activities, traveling, shopping, clothing, and sports. You can talk about yourself, your friends, your family and personal experiences. In short, you can make yourself understood and react appropriately in simple social interactions.

Deutsch Aktuell 2, the second-level textbook, will expand the communicative skills you have already acquired. You will be able to talk about hobbies, vacation plans, professions, foods, holidays and festivals, health matters, camping and youth hostels, and many other topics. You will learn to interact with others about various aspects of life: driving, using various means of transportation (including a trip to Germany), environmental issues, shopping in a variety of stores and markets. You will continue to increase your cultural understanding by learning how to write letters, describing a German house or apartment, naming animals, identifying parts of a car, and talking about major events and festivals in small towns and large cities in Germany.

The format of this book is similar to Deutsch Aktuell 1. You will again have the opportunity to interact with your classmates as you apply your knowledge about interesting topics that you might encounter if you travel to a German-speaking environment. You will also have an opportunity to expand your reading skill through specially chosen Aktuelles sections, which appear in German from Kapitel 3 on.

As you continue your journey into the dramatically changing German-speaking world, you will strengthen your global understanding of the language and culture of today’s generation.
