peel that made me think of the Ribera wines from the early 1990s. It's

elegant and balanced, with neatly integrated oak. Very promising... This

should age 13 months in French oak barrels and will deliver !

Dominio del Pidio 2016 49.99€* RobertParker.com: 93/100. The red 2016 Dominio del Pidio was im-

pressive, with ripe fruit, spices and graphite and a medium to full-

bodied palate. 2016 is a fresh and fruit-driven vintage, lighter with

good balance. This is mostly Tempranillo, but there's also some 5%

white Albillo that fermented together in concrete vats and oak

barrels, where they wine matured for 16 months. There are notes of

red and black fruit, some pepper and a smoky touch that makes a

comeback in a medium-bodied palate where the tannins are fine

and the finish is clean and long.

Torresilo Reserva 2018 36.00€ RobertParker.com: The orange label of the Torresilo is

instantly recognizable, as it was one of the most popular

wines of the new Ribera del Duero from the mid-1990s.

The Tempranillo grapes come from Quintana del Pido

and La Aguilera, 35 small plots of old vines (some an-

cient) that deliver very low yields and concentrated

juice. It fermented in stainless steel and matured in new,

second, third and fourth use oak barrels. It feels elegant,

with the oak nicely folded into the fruit, with contained

ripeness and a juicy mouthfeel, pleasantly textured and

balanced, with very fine chalky tannins. Very good in-

deed !

truly worth sitting up and taking notice of. From 40-year-old

vines, matured in 25% new oak. A powerful, rich and spicy

example of white 1er Cru Rully, this retains good freshness

with a lovely ‘bite’ of acidity on the palate. Plenty of spicy

oak compliments the stoned fruit and greengage charac-

ters. This is a very enjoyable example which can be drunk

young, or aged several years.

and the vibrancy of the year. What a wine. Inky blue/purplish fruit, grilled herbs,

menthol, licorice, black pepper and earthy flavors all race through this deep,

potent Merlot from Castellare. Even with all of its intensity, the 2018 retains striking

freshness and tons of verve !

CHIANTI CLASSICO 2018 17.99€* Antonio Galloni’s Vinous.com: 92/100 This is an absolutely joyous wine.

Bright red cherry fruit, tangy acids and sweet floral notes all run a translu-

cent, super-expressive Chianti Classico that quite frankly knocks it out of

the park. The 2018 is so delineated, so vibrant and just so incredibly delici-

ous. The purity of the flavors is just remarkable. The oak needs a bit of time

to fully integrate, but it already has over the last few months. This is what

Sangiovese and Chianti Classico are all about. Best of all, the 2018 is a

screaming value. Don't miss it !

richness of the year with the translucent beauty of Sangiovese. Succulent dark

cherry, cedar, tobacco, licorice and dried herbs all run through the 2017. The

warm, dry season gives the Riserva slightly softer contours, but there is plenty of

energy and vibrancy. This is another fabulous wine !

CHIANTI CLASSICO ‘Riserva Poggiale’ 2017 32.00€ Antonio Galloni’s Vinous.com: 93/100 The 2017 Riserva Il Poggiale is engaging

from start to finish. Dark cherry, plum, spice, cedar, licorice and tobacco are

some of the notes that flesh out as the 2017 sits in the glass. Here, too, winema-

ker Alessandro Cellai captures a striking interplay between the overtness of the

year and the classicism of Sangiovese and Chianti Classico.

Antonio Galloni’s Vinous.com: 91/100. The 2018 Zinfandel East Bench is an absolute joy to taste. Bright acids perk up the sweet red

berry fruit in this lively, flavorful 100% Zinfandel from vineyards in Dry Creek. Fresh, vinous and so wonderfully inviting, the 2018 is deli-

cious now, but also has the energy to develop in bottle for another decade, perhaps more.

J.C. COHN ZINFANDEL ‘CASSATA’ CALIFORNIA 2016 45.00€* JebDunnuck.com: 95/100. Mostly destemmed and brought up in 25% new French oak, the 2016 Cassata is one of the riper, more

rounded, sexy wines in the lineup. Cassis, black raspberries, toasted spice, graphite, and hints of baking spices all emerge from this

medium to full-bodied, powerful effort that stays beautifully balanced and elegant on the palate. It's an incredibly completely,

voluptuous wine to drink over the coming 8-10 years.

RobertParker.com: 93/100. Deep ruby-purple in the glass, the 2016 Zinfandel Cassata Vineyard opens with some reductive aromas

that dissipate fairly quickly, segueing to peach and apricot jam, blackberry pie, sweet spices, pipe tobacco, turned earth, graphite

and savory herbs with red fruit sparks. Full-bodied, it's dense and rich in the mouth with intense, minerally fruits, fine, grainy tannins and

lip-smacking freshness, finishing very long.

OJAI SYRAH ‘ROLL RANCH’ CALIFORNIA 2017 45.00€* Antonio Galloni’s Vinous.com: 94/100. The 2017 Syrah Roll Ranch is the most complete of the four 2017 Syrahs I tasted. The deeply-

pitched aromatics are immediately captivating. There's plenty of depth to match, too. Dark red cherry fruit, cedar, leather, tobacco,

menthol and dried flower all meld together in a Syrah that has it all: perfume, fruit and structure to burn. The 75-85% whole clusters

(the most of the Ojai Syrahs) work beautifully here, as does a dollop of Viognier. This is such a classy wine !

JebDunnuck.com: 93/100. Based on Syrah blended with a splash of Viognier, the 2017 Syrah Roll Ranch Vineyard has more red and

blue fruits as well as some stemmy, violet, and peppery nuances, medium body, a terrific sense of elegance and purity, light tannins,

and a great finish. It's another elegant, layered, just straight-up pretty wine from this estate that's a joy to drink. It's going to evolve for

10-15 years with no issues.

DUMOL SYRAH ‘WILD MOUNTAINSIDE’ CALIFORNIA 2018 59.00€* RobertParker.com: 94/100. The 2018 Syrah Wild Mountainside was made with about one-third whole clusters and includes about 5%

Viognier. Medium to deep ruby-purple, it has gorgeous aromas of smoked meats, crushed blackcurrants, mint leaves, bitter choco-

late, violet and blueberries. Medium to full-bodied, it's well managed in the mouth, restrained but deeply flavored, with a fine, grainy

frame and fresh, uplifted finish.
