Industrie4.0,IoTorbigdataaremajordevelopmentfieldsinseveralindustrial areas. Furnaces are already collecting various data. These data is stored locally and normally not analyzed in order to improve the up-, lifetime, and productivity of furnaces or minimize furnace breakdowns. The main fear of heat treaters is that by sharing these data, also the heat treatment knowledge is shared as well.

Ipsenisworkingondifferentprojectstocollectandanalyzefurnacedata.One project is PdMetrics. PdMetrics is an add-on system, not included in the furnace PLC. The system collects and analyses data of furnace components in addition to the data of the furnace control systems as well as data of similar worldwide installed furnaces. The collected data isusedforthedevelopmentoffurnaceandpartspecificalgorithmsto avoid future faults or indicate necessary spare part replacements. Selected important information is visualized at the furnace. All data can becheckedfromofficecomputers,tabletsorsmartphones.Importantand urgent alarm messages are sent by E-Mail or SMS.

PdMetrics supports a stable, reliable and thereby sustainable furnace performance which is necessary to achieve repeatable, high quality heat treatment results requested by automotive, aerospace and other industries.

Low pressure carburizing (LPC) is a well-established process heat treatment process. Several automotive and aerospace parts are carburized with this process. The limit of this process was always, that due to the hardenability of automotive steel grades, HPGQ with Helium gaswasthefirstchoiceforautomotivegearapplications.Arecentlydeveloped HPGQ-chamber for quenching with Nitrogen shows, that several components made of normal automotive steel grades can now be quenched in Nitrogen gas. The required core hardness can be achieved. The HPGQ-chamber is capable to quench with up to 20 bar (abs.) Nitrogen and also allows alternating cooling gas direction. Two chamber vacuum furnaces with oil quench are also available in new sizes as well as the standard single chamber vacuum furnaces.

For special applications, also the demand for low pressure carbonitriding (LPCN) is increasing.
