There are very few bikes that can cover distance with the combined

speed, comfort and agility of Triumph’s Sprint ST. Everyone who has

ridden it knows it lives up to its reputation: a brilliant sportsbike that

tours. And the perennially popular Sprint ST has been updated for 2010

and joined by a new model,t he Sprint GT.

Surprisingly, for a bike that delivers the ideal balance of

performance a nd flexibility, brand new sports-tourers are a rare breed in

today’s segmented motorcycle world. Pure sportsbikes have become

increasingly more focused and hardcore, while tourers have tended to

become heavier or taller or both. Triumph’s Product Manager, Simon

Warburton, agrees, “The Sprint GT is a genuine sports-tourer, one of very

few available today. It’s an all-rounder that allows you to cover big distances

in comfort, but still enjoy spirited riding.” Surely that’s the dream scenario

for huge numbers of riders:tour in comfort,to the Pyrenees,or Scotland,or

the Isle of Man, or wherever you please, then enjoy the destination you

travelled for so many hours to reach when you finally arrive. It’s no good

riding from A to your once-in-a-lifetime B if the journey has left you,or your

pillion, too fat igued to really enjoy it.

Triumph’s design and development team are driven by the invaluablefeedback they receive from existing owners. The comments from

thousands of Sprint owners showed there was a great deal of love for the

Sprint ST,but also room in Triumph’s range for a bike with all the ST’s

spirit, performance and handsome, unmistakable looks but with an even

more practical side to it.And that was the ‘nut’ of the GT’s design brief.

‘Improve the bike’s practical aspects but without losing the sportiness.’

The Sprint GT uses a 130bhp version of the world-renowned 1050cc,

12-valve triple engine,a version of which also powers the Speed Triple

and Tiger. But the Sprint family use a unique aluminum beam,t win-spar

frame. A glance at the specification sheet shows adjustable suspension

and lightweight 17in wheels to make the most of the widest range of

tyres available. Despite family similarities to the ST, the GT is being

regarded as a brand new model. And you’ll see why. A completely new

rear sub-frame, seat and rear bodywork give it different strengths and

character to the ST.The rider’s ergonomics are identical to the ST, with

bars set at a height that allows the ‘spirited riding’ Simon described,

when the conditions allow.

But the pillion seat is lower, and the pillion footpegs ar e both lower and

further forward, combining to offer a more relaxed leg position. Also, there

won’t be a passenger in the world who wouldn’t want to grip those

ergonomically-shaped grab handles – after all,this engine delivers 108Nm

(80ft.lbs) of torque.

The GT’s seat is easily removed with a twist of a key and reveals

enough storage space for a U-lock underneath. These changes have been

able to be incorporated because the ST’s under-seat exhaust has beenreplaced by a lower-level,three-into-one system.

Clever hard panniers now come as standard equipment too.

“The panniers are all new and much improved,” Simon Warburton

explains. “They will each hold an XXL-sized helmet. They are easy to

operate and have a high quality feel. They lock with the bike’s ignition key

and come colour-coded to the bike. The mounting system is also much

improved in that the appearance is much neater when the pannier is

removed.Instead of external rails, there are simply two discreet mounting

points protruding through the rear bodywork. The panniers use our unique

mounting system, whereby each pannier has a small amount of freedom to

swing, and is joined to the other pannier by a link bar. This system m assively

improves the stability of the bike when loaded up by decoupling the mass

of the luggage from the bike.In effect, this damps out small oscillations

before they build up and cause a weave that is noticeable to the rider.”

THE SPRINT GT IS SET TO DOMINATE THE SPORTS-TOURER MARKET

POWERED TOP BOX

In a first for Triumph, this 54-litre top box features an internal 12v cigarette lighter-

type socket so you can recharge electronics such as a phone or laptop, use a light or

many other items. It slots onto a high-tech sliding carriage with integral power

connectors, enabling slick removal and replacement with no fiddly wires. It’ll swallow

two full-face helmets, has a colour-matched finish and a lock that utilises the ignition

key, meaning it blends seamlessly with your Sprint GT.(Alternative top box offered for

Sprint ST).

TOP BOX EXTRAS

Life on the road can be a little vigorous for the contents of your top box, so why not invest

in an anti-slip, anti-vibration mat? Tailor-made from soft-touch material for a perfect fit,

it’s also stylishl y branded with the Triumph logo. And how about treating your passenger to

an ergonomically-formed back rest? Its thoughtful design not only offers increased levels

of comfort but also adds to a feeling of security and well-being, which pillions will love.

TOURING SCREEN

Add an extra level of comfort and practicality with this touring screen. Specially

designed and rigorously tested by Triumph engineers to work in harmony with the GT’s

aerodynamics, it offers enhanced wind and weather protection for those continent-

crushing journeys without compromising stability or ride quality. Clear and slightly

higher than the standard screen, it’s created using the latest injection moulding

technology for consistently high quality.

BILLET GPS MOUNT

We motorcyclists benefit from sat-nav systems more than most, being freed from the

need to battle with unruly, ripped maps stuffed into tank bags. This handsome mounting

system is engineered in high-grade billet aluminium alloy with a resilient, deep black

anodised finish. Designed with Garmin systems in mind,it will also accept most other

brands and, unlike many standard brackets,is good looking even when you’ve removed

your GPS at the end of the day.

GEL COMFORT SEAT

For those requiring even higher levels of cosseting on those lengthy tours, this gel-filled

dual seat will ensure your mind stays firmly focused on the ride and not elsewhere.

Finished in premium-grade vinyl with attractive stitching detail and Triumph tag, its

ergonomic design and supportive gel core reduces fatigue during long hours in the saddle,

helping to ensure you arrive safely at your destination feeling fresh and ready for more.

FULL PAINT PROTECTION KITS

Already an option on the Urban Sports range for tank protection, this highly-effective

treatment is now offered for the new Sprint GT offering extensive safeguarding of

paintwork against scratching and stone chips. Developed in conjunction with market

leaders VentureShield, the tough yet almost invisible urethane film is extremely

resistant to yellowing, yet allows penetration of UV light,so protected areas fade at the

same rate as unprotected paintwork. What better way to preserve that world-renowned

Triumph finish – and your investment.
