What can/could you find on Gabriel?
• Practical information about the 43 European NLs: addresses, opening hours, history, contact info, etc.

• Exhibition of (digitized) treasures of the 43 NLs• Information about CENL• Search all websites (NOT: catalogues) of all 43
NLs in one query• Available in 3 languages: EN, FR, DE
9
Pros & cons of Gabriel
Pros• All NLs had a presence on the web (Malta did
not have a website until 2003!)• Ability to search website, even if a NL itself did
not have search engine• Cooperation, share knowledge, networking
Cons• Not able to search the catalogues/collections
of the NLs Enter TEL Project (2001)
10
B 2001 - Begin TEL Project
Haalbaarheidsstudie
11
• 8 pilot libraries: Finland, Germany, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Slovenia, Switzerland, United Kingdom.
• If successful other NLs can participate too
TEL Project (2001-2004)
12
