My Prayer For Today

Lord, I admit that I'm guilty of occasionally

talking behind other peoples backs, and I'm

wrong for doing it. I ask You to please

forgive me for allowing the devil to use me in

this way. I am asking You to help me keep a

tight reign on my tongue and to refrain from

gossiping about other people. When I find

myself in a situation where the conversation

turns to gossip, help me know how to

graciously dismiss myself from the

conversation so I can avoid participating in

this sin and falling back into this trap. I

repent for my activity in gossip, and I turn

from it, in Jesus name! Amen.

Thrift Store Volunteers

Needed

Thrift store volunteers play a major role in helping provide charity to those most in need.

Volunteers are needed to help support the operation of our Thrift Store. Please consider giving of your time, talents, and treasures. This is a great way to get involved to help make a

difference in the lives of those who struggle to meet the demands of sustaining a household for themselves and their

families in our own community. Family time spent with mother, father, brother, and sister volunteering for a few hours a month, is also available and its impact will last a

lifetime on ourselves and those we serve. For more information please contact Michelle at

La Chureca—”How Beautiful”

There is an area in Nicaragua called La Chureca. It is the largest garbage dump in Latin America and is home

to over 2000 people and the 1200 tons of trash that is delivered daily.

In March, I visited an orphanage located in La Chureca and was moved to help the children in a bigger way - so I started “How Beautiful”. “How Beautiful” is a necessity drive that I am running that will bring hope to the children of Nicaragua

via earthly items as well as prayers.

During the month of July, I am collecting food, water, and especially clothing to be sent to

Nicaragua in early August.

Donations for necessities can be placed in the designated boxes at the Education Bldg. and our Parish Thrift Store. Monetary donations will be

accepted in the Parish Office until the end of July.

If you have any questions or concerns, please contact me, Megan Vilardi at (772)214-7134.

Thank you for your Support!

StewardshipStewardshipStewardshipStewardship An act of worship...not an act of obligationAn act of worship...not an act of obligationAn act of worship...not an act of obligationAn act of worship...not an act of obligation

Thank you to the 607 parishioners who have returned their

pledges!

We still need $26,329 to meet the $130,000

goal set for our Parish Family by the

Diocese.

In today’s second reading, Saint Paul bids us to take comfort in

knowing that when God invites us to pray to him, he knows our

true needs, even if we do not. The Holy Spirit intercedes and

prays for us even if we can’t come up with appropriate words;

even when we don’t have a clue what to ask for. We are not left

alone. Good stewards know that prayer is an important part of

living a life in Christ. The important thing is to make space

for God. Do we let God into our hearts? Do we make room for

the Holy Spirit to pray within us?

Lord and Creator,

You are the source of wisdom and grace, the author of human

freedom and creativity. We thank you for these gifts, and ask

that you teach us to be good stewards of our creative spirits.

Show us how to quiet ourselves, and to learn the art of

re-creation, reflection and relaxation so that we might recharge

and refill ourselves for the work you have planned for us. Help

us never to be too busy to pause and realize your gracious

presence all around us: in nature, in other people, in ourselves.

Slow us down, Lord, and teach us to be stewards of our time of

recreation. Amen.

From International Catholic Stewardship Council July 2011Newsletter

2011 DSA Can you help ?

We pray that each member of our Parish Family might

translate our love for God into good works, responding to the

needs of others with care, concern and affection by

supporting the 2011 Diocesan Services Appeal. May God

Bless you for your support of our Parish and the Diocese.

Is there such a thing as a stewardship of recreation?

Some people might dismiss the thought. But they’d be wrong.

In his book, The Gift of the Jews, author Thomas Cahill observes

that, in receiving the Ten Commandments, the ancient Hebrews

did something no other ancient society had ever done: they

established a day of rest. “The God who made the universe and

rested bids us to do the same, calling us to a weekly restoration

of prayer, study, and recreation (or re-creation).”

For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere at least,

probably no other month bids us to relax as the month of July

does. Backyard barbecues, days at the pool or the beach, a

recreational outing or simply the lazy idleness of a mid-year

Sunday afternoon invite us to slow down. And this invitation

should be heeded. Sometimes, our society induces in us a sense

of guilt if we’re not “doing.” But turning off the computer and

the phone and spending quality time with those around us, or

finding time for our own interior lives, is stewardship of our time

which leads to the place where God dwells. It’s a good example

for our kids as well: July presents a wonderful time to “rest”

from all the electronic screens and busyness that dominate their

young lives.

July is also the month when U.S. citizens celebrate the

proclamation of their freedom. When the Hebrew people first

received the Ten Commandments, they too had just received

their freedom from the Egyptians after a sojourn in the

wilderness. Cahill thinks it’s no coincidence that a people

recently liberated were in need of a directive to rest and reflect.

“Leisure,” he writes, “is the necessary ground of creativity, and a

free people are free to imitate the creativity of God.”

So, the next time you feel guilty about a quiet, reflective

time of doing “nothing” remember that recreation also means “re

-creation” and that to be a truly creative person, a steward of our

interior resources, we must honor our need to rest, relax, be with

others, read and play. -Effie Caldarola

HAVE YOU EVER WANTED TO PLAY

IN A ROCK ‘N’ ROLL BAND?

If your answer is “Yes!” … or even if it isn’t … but you are a talented musician and/or vocalist

and would like to join our new

“LIFE TEEN” PRAISE AND WORSHIP ENSEMBLE

that will be featured at the Sunday Youth Mass beginning in September at 5pm …

then please contact Jonathan or Mandee Richards our Worship Leaders at 732-979-0550

for a friendly chat and an invite to a jam session planned for end of

July.

All musicians are welcome but we

are looking especially for those who can play piano and/or keyboard, drums and other

percussion, electric bass guitar,

and wind instruments. Come and have fun … and help us “make a joyful noise unto the Lord!”

we do. Whether you select our Hors d’oeuvre service, Buffet-style Service with Specialty Stations, or

superior. Whether you’re planning that small intimate gathering to celebrate a special Birthday or

Anniversary…or something much larger whether a Wedding Reception, Graduation or Corporate

Engagement, come by and speak with our Banquet Manager … you’ll be glad you did!
