Oh, by the way…

What seemed so far away is now down to three (3) Lord’s Day Masses at St. Henry’s. Bishop Doherty will celebrate the closing Liturgy on Sunday, 24 September. So much has been done over the past two (2) months in preparation. Activity is now picking up quickly.

There are numerous Diocesan and legal aspects that need to be finalized. All current registered parishioners have been contacted asking where their “new faith-family parish” will be so proper notifications may be made. (There’s more than meets the eye!) St. Henry, pray for us!

N.B. Effective 1 October 2017, all Lord’s Day liturgies on the west side of the county will be celebrated at 8:00 a.m., St. Francis, Francesville. All other regularly scheduled Lord’s Day liturgies within the Cluster (St. Joseph & St. Peter) remain the same.

We are quickly approaching another year of Religious Education. Via the internet for all

known addresses, families have been notified…plus the weekly notifications in our bulletin. All

paperwork MUST BE RETURNED BEFORE NOON, 21 AUGUST…MONDAY!

Registrations/paper work, media releases, etc. must be returned

by placing them in the collection basket; posting by mail; delivering

all to the Business Office during regular business hours.

Registration fees are: $25/single child or $40/family. (Remember,

there is an additional late registration fee of $50.00 over and

above the regular registration fee. There is NO EXCUSE for late registrations. Because of the

need to order books and supplies…our Custer isn’t paying the additional postage for late

registrants!)

During the 2017-2018 Religious Education year, our Cluster will also be preparing for Bishop

Doherty to administer the Sacrament of Confirmation. Like the Sacraments of First Reconciliation and

First Communion, there is a more intensive preparation. What is involved? As has been previously

stated at various times:

CONFIRMATION Can. 879: The Sacrament of Confirmation strengthens the baptized and obliges them more firmly to be

witnesses of Christ by word and deed and to spread and defend the faith. It imprints a character,

enriches by the gift of the Holy Spirit the baptized continuing on the path of Christian initiation, and

binds them more perfectly to the Church.

PREREQUISITES: There is a two (2) year preparation time frame. (The 75%

attendance enters into this equation!) Candidates must be 13 years

of age by date of celebration, 9 May 2018. Participation in service

projects, a retreat and an interview with the Pastor are some

segments of the preparation process.

To start the ball rolling, there will be a Parent

meeting 7 September at 6:30 p.m. in St. Peter’s

Hall. All parents of students who are anticipating this

Sacrament, like all sacramental preparation classes, is

mandatory.

Diocesan Guidelines include the following:

The Sacrament of Confirmation is not the end of the

journey; it is provides sacramental grace for a life -long journey

with Christ. The Confirmation guidelines in the Diocese of

Lafayette-in-Indiana are not a program in itself, but a recommendation for developing a program to

meet expectations. As part of the universal call to holiness Confirmation preparation is to be an integral

part of that call to perfect our baptismal grace.

“The sacrament of Confirmation is to be conferred on the faithful at about the age of discretion

unless the conference of bishops has determined another age, or there is danger of death, or in

the judgment of the minister a grave cause suggests otherwise.” (CIC891)

1. Young people receiving the sacrament of Confirmation must have reached their 13th

birthday by

the reception of the sacrament.

2. Young people must be active members of the Church as noted in the Precepts of the Church.

a. You shall attend Mass on Sundays and Holy Days

b. You shall confess your sins at least once a year.

c. You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season.

d. You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church.

e. You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church. (CCC2042)

3. It is expected that all Confirmation candidates participate in parish Confirmation formation. This

includes public school, Catholic school, and home school youth.

The flip side is simple AND IT IS BLUNT: If a student doesn’t fulfill

the above Precepts of the Church (a-b-c-d-e), one needs to SERIOUSLY

CONSIDER NOT BEING CONFIRMED. I would ask the question: WHY

DO YOU WISH TO BE CONFIRMED IF YOU AREN’T WILLING TO

PARTICIPATE IN THE LIFE OF THE CHURCH, DOING WHAT THE

CHURCH ASKS OF YOU?

Meanwhile, back at the ranch, fr. K

Quick one-liners for you: The next NCYC Fishing tournament will be on Sunday, August 27th. Please contact either Joe

As you read in our bulletin several weeks ago, Fr. Bert is fighting a battle with cancer. During his chemo sessions, a link has been set up to help with meals. If you are interested in helping, please visit www.takethemameal.com. Once on the site, click on the box titled “find”; type in WOOLSON and the password is 3453 (the last four digits of the parish phone number) and click search. It will pull up his information and you can sign up on the website for a meal. I know he will appreciate all the help and prayers.
