Mr. Coffey theught it was very foolish for Mr.Hunt to make such a proposition, if he held that hewas not acting illegally before.

Chairman—r must say there is nothing veryfoolish in this letter. .'

Mr. M. 8. Walsh said there were a series of re-solutions to be proposed to-day, which it woulfl betheir duty to carry. Ha then at considerablelength reviewed tbe whole circumstances in conaeo-tion with this well-thrashed subject, and in thecourse of his speech, pointed out that in 1878, Mr.Hunt was appointel Clerk to the Local Authority,at a salary of J516. and that this appointment wasillegal, owing to the notorious fact which he wrungfrom Mr. Hunt, that, it was made without a noticeof motion, or a single aarertisement being issued. He was elected only for one year, as by tbe orderin Council enforced at the time, he could not harebeen appointed for a longer period. Mr. Hunt wnsnerer re-appointed, and if be was ho demandedthat the minute of that re-appointment should beproduced here to-day. If he W>.B not re-appointedit was clear that since 1879 Mr. Hunt had been re-ceiving a salary ot '£15 a yeur tu which he had noclaim. Mr. Hunt, ' bo*erer, said ho bad beenappointed by the Lord Lieutenant, and held a leasein perpetuity. The law of tbt* land had given thempowers, aud the question fur them to-day was, werethey going to be alures to gire up tbose powera andprivileges and authority .which bad been given themat the mere threat of the Privy''Council ? " W. G. DOOLIN ."Co'onel Stuart detailed the circumstances under

whio . the architect bed been consulted, as has al-ready been folly reported in previous proceedings, and said it was now for the boatd to take whateveraction tbey thought fit.

Mr. E. Walsh—Mnst not the former resolutionbe rescinded before we take into coosiderauon the pro-priety of building ?

Mr. Bookett considered Mr. Doolin's estimate entirelyoxceuire. He considered that a house of 36 feet by 17conld be built for something under SHC) . Mr. Doaitnestimated thecottof pUaterini the present apartments,onUide £49; wncreaa. tbey had got a tender for £13.There waa scarcely a donbt that they could get a houiomore comfortably built at least £100 cheaper at thewestern end than in the oratre of tha establishment

Col. Stuart proposed and Mr. E.Walsh seconded, thatthe resolution formerly passed bo rescinded. LoidBessborongh : Quite right ; that will leave the wbo'oquestion open. On a division all the guardians present, except two, voted for this morion. Mr. Mercer againstand Mr. J. H. Power declined to voto.. Mr. Shea said them seemed to be no objection toSake fairpmvuion for those ladies in the hospital , andthe only question was, " What ia the beat to do ?" Hethought the expnnso seed not be so large aa the archi-t.-ct stated. .Tba whole thing need sot oost more than£320 or £370, and that .wonld cot bo too much.¦ 'Lord Bessborough' suggested that tho guardiansshould say .how much they were prepared to expand forproviding the accommodation required. I ', they fixedthe amount the rest would be easy.

1 Col. Stait seconded Lord Bessborongh'a motion, andaatd he would go M f ar as £500.

: Mr. J. Shea moved that the expenditure should notexoeed.£330. Mr. Wilson seconded the amendment.- On a division there rotid—For £C30 t Messrs. E.Hearne, Shea, Egan, Kitwan, Terry.
