The United States is not an ordinary nation; America

stands apart from all other countries and we should

protect our unique character in the world.

The US has a two-track economy, where most Americans

struggle every day, where good jobs are hard to find, and

where the huge corporations get all the rewards. We

need fundamental changes to fix the inequality in our

economic system.

America is in a state of decline.

A major reason that the middle class has not seen their economic condition

really improve for decades and that the nation does not have the economic

growth it needs is because of the corruption and crony capitalism in

Washington that puts special interest

Every week we seem to have more new stories about government

incompetence, overspending and mismanagement. The federal government

is not only dysfunctional, but it seems to be collapsing right before our eyes.

I believe the US government is working for the people’s best interests.

The federal government has become a special interest group that

looks out primarily for its own interests.

The country is run by an alliance of incumbent politicians, media

pundits, lobbyists and other powerful money interest groups for

their own gain at the expense of the American people.

The two main political parties are too beholden to special and

corporate interest to create any meaningful change.

The biased and slanted coverage of the media and press are afundamental part of the problem with our political system.

The real struggle for America is not between Democrats and

Republicans, but between mainstream America and the ruling

political elites.

The values and principals of my political party are so

important to me that I strongly prefer to vote for the

candidate from my party, even when it's not the perfect

candidate

Our party system is very flawed. We need new citizen

leaders within our political parties, instead of the sameold party machine politicians, to restore the ideals of our

parties

Both parties have failed us and it's time to move on from

our two party system. We need to vote for independent

candidates and let some new political parties come

together to truly represent the American people

Next I’d like to ask you about another possible candidate for public

office. For this survey, this person is going to be called Candidate

Smith. Candidate Smith’s beliefs are not based on liberal or

conservative ideas, just fundamental American common sense. Smithsays we can’t change anything with the usual politics, the usual

politicians, and the usual interest groups. We need new leaders from

mainstream America, like Candidate Smith, who take on the political

elites and special interests, and put the American people in charge

again.

After reading this, what is your opinion of Candidate Smith?

Candidate Smith says one candidate can’t fix our system or our

country alone, what we need is ordinary Americans to take

responsibility to stand up and do our part.

Smith says that the economic policies of both parties have failed

and the only way to strengthen the middle class and lift people into

the middle class is to have economic policies that grow the

economy and provide real jobs and better wages.

Candidate Smith says that the poison of political corruption is

eating away at American Democracy and self-government. The

ruling political class, both Democrat and Republican, are allowing

powerful interests from Wall Street banks to corporations, unions

Candidate Smith says we need to fix our broken political system

first, before we can do anything about solving other important

issues – economic growth, education, health care, foreign policy,

immigration.
