The ACF Calisthenics Skills Program in Victoria

once again had many highlights to celebrate in 2018 -

our members certainly ‘raised the barre’ in relation to

their achievements.

Over 1700 - the highest number of entries ever!

Congratulations every candidate who presented, and

to the coaches who invested their time and expertise

in their training.

34 candidates from clubs across the divisional

spectrum gained Grade 4 Honours or Honours with

Distinction.

There were 32 successful medallists - Bronze, Silver,

Gold, and Gold Honours. The second year in

succession that five young ladies have achieved Gold

Medal Honours. This is the highest number ever!

On stage presentations to Grade 4 Honours achievers

and medallists at CV State Teams Championships

continues to be a highlight.

Many people contributed to the successful

administration of the Calisthenics Skills program

within our State in 2018, and each person is highly

valued for their time and expertise. Hopefully this

continues in 2019.

Our Sub-committee is supported by Helen Barclay -

Registrar, Lorraine Duff – Assistant Administrator;

with extra help from Caroline Smith, Melissa Tully,

Trish McLeod, Leanne Collins, Kerry Miles and

Iolanda Marinov at critical times. The diligence of

the many Supervisors who host exam venues is also

greatly appreciated.

Thank you to Calisthenics Victoria Board and

CEO, office staff, Competition Committee and the

VCCA, for their on-going assistance to the ACF

Calisthenics program in Victoria.

Best wishes to all Victorian members for the

remainder of 2019.

We’ll continue to hold two annual exam periods

plus the March medals. Dates as follows.

May June – now complete for 2019

November December 2019 – on-line

registrations will be advised.

March Medals 2020 – to be scheduled.

ANGELINE CRAY

Throughout my years of calisthenics, and participating in the ACF

Skills Program, completing the Medals Syllabus (especially Gold),

has been a favourite challenge of mine during this journey. It has

helped me improve significantly through nearly every aspect of

being a Calisthenics performer, solely focusing on my technique

and ability as an individual.

Although it is not compulsory to complete the Medal Program, it

was important to me that I continue to develop my skills, face new

challenges and try to complete the entire ACF Skills Program.

In doing so, after years of hard work, dedication and support, I

received outstanding results that my 4-year-old self could only

have dreamt of!!!

I would like to thank my family and husband for their ongoing

encouragement, support and endless belief in me. I would like to

thank Jeanne and Kirrilly for nurturing me as a performer, and my

lovely team mates for making class each week something to really

look forward to. I would like to thank my very talented coach

Lucinda Williams for being such a huge inspiration and for

helping me reach such a highly respected achievement.

Last but not least I would like to thank ACF and all those involved in the Program’s administration in helping make this experience possible.

CHARLOTTE LORD Completing my Gold Medal with Honours is something I am most proud of. I feel extremely privileged to share the honour with my coach Lucinda, many of my friends, team mates, and all of the other recipients. In my 20 years of calisthenics, this is one of the most challenging and rewarding achievements I have completed. I would like to thank Jeanne, Lucinda and Kirrilly Wootton for being incredible role models throughout my entire calisthenics career. In particular to Lucinda, for her guidance and support from when I started my levels journey in Grade 1, all the way to the Gold Medal Honours. A huge thank you to Julie Fox, together with everyone who’s involved with the medal administration, for their commitment to this amazing program that gives calisthenics girls the opportunity

to complete. As an Examiner, Julie Fox has always made me feel at ease whilst I was performing. I can’t express enough how fulfilling and advantageous the whole medal experience has been for me - not only in my calisthenics career but flowing to my life outside of calisthenics.

JESSICA HARDING

I began at Merinda Calisthenics College when I

was 3, and always loved calisthenics because it

was a team sport. Over time I have been a part

of State Teams, Amazing Grace and completed

all my levels to Gold Medal.

When it came to solos, I had a lot of ups and

downs. I completed 4 years of solos and 2 years

of duos during my 18 years of calisthenics; and

thought I wouldn’t be able to complete Gold

Medal Honours as it meant performing by my-

self.

Together with motivation from my mother, Sue

Harding (also a Gold Medallist) and coach, Me-

gan Roughana (GMH in 2012), I was able to

complete this amazing program. I am forever

grateful to the both of them.

Calisthenics has been a part of my whole life, and to achieve Gold Medal Honours is my greatest personal achievement.

CHELSEA

TRESEDER

Receiving my gold medal with honours

was an ‘absolute dream come true’. I

had my doubts about whether I would

be able to achieve this, but with a lot of

hard work, support and determination

this all became possible.

I started my calisthenics journey a long

time ago and needless to say it is now

my way of life. It gives me so much joy

to be able to perform and achieve. The

medals program is an excellent way to

extend oneself, to perform and continue

your calisthenics journey and love of our

wonderful sport. I recommend it to

everyone.

A big ‘thank you’ to all who came and

supported me at my on-stage GMH

presentation - coaches past and present,

team mates, students and friends. It was

lovely to have this support from all parts

of the calisthenics community and I felt

very special.

To my coach Megan Roughana - thank

you for believing in me and pushing me

to be my best. We put so much time,

effort, blood, sweat and tears into this

journey and I can’t thank you enough

for the support and encouragement. To

look back when I achieved my Bronze

Medal to now, is incredible and there is

no way I could have done it without

you. Your dedication, passion and

attention to detail are amazing and I am

so grateful to have had you by my side.

And last but not least to my mum, I

can’t thank you enough for all you do for

me and I love that calisthenics is some-

thing we share and do together.

7

MADDISON SMITH 16 years ago I walked into my first

class at Emmanuel where I met my

coach for that year, Sarah Carthew.

I had been told that she’d attained

her Gold Medal with Honours, the

highest achievement in Calisthenics.

I can still remember thinking that

she must know absolutely

EVERYTHING about calisthenics.

Never in a million years did I expect

to be standing up on stage 16 years

later receiving my Gold Medal

Honours with Sarah by my side, as

my coach. I’m so grateful for every

opportunity she has given me - her

inspiration and encouragement over

the years. I could never have got

here without her!

I’d like to say a huge thank you to

my parents who have spent

countless hours (and money)

driving me to and from classes,

sewing costumes and allowing me

to do what I love! I am excited now

to pass on my knowledge and

passion to the next generation of

calisthenics girls and have the same

impact on others that many of my

coaches have had on me.

10

My medals journey started in the ACT in 2010 when I decided I needed a challenge. By 2013, I

was the first ACT candidate to receive Gold Medal, although the title of Honours remained

elusive. After a few years, I still wanted to improve, so

in the 2017 ACT skills exam period I redid my Gold Medal exam, under the new syllabus, and this time I qualified to perform for honours!

I moved to Victoria in 2018 for my studies, where I was lucky enough to be welcomed into

the Jeaden Calisthenics College family. It was

here that I prepared for my Honours performances with Lucinda as my guide. I was

privileged to present at the ACF Nationals and I finally achieved my goal!

There really is no other experience quite like the medals program. I have improved so much and

grown as a person throughout this journey. I would like to thank my family for their support, Jenny Godber for believing in me, and Lucinda,

Kirrilly and Jeanne for their help throughout round 2 of Gold Medal.

We also recognise Rebecca Reber

Gold Medal Honours recipient in 2018 who now resides

in Victoria
