work?• Internet content is unpredictable for the user

• .mobi name is like a sign post to help the user finding mobile friendly site within the internet “jungle”• Just type http://weather.mobi • .mobi sites will work smoothly on mobiles and be reasonably priced• But users access to content is not restricted!

• Service providers targeting mobile users should understand the user&context, and adapt to the device and browser software to provide a good user experience.

• Device vendors should provide best possible access to all internet services.


One Web and dotMobi

• One web is the capacity for any devices to access any web site, meaning• PC can always access dotmobi site• MS can always (try to) access PC optimised site

• W3C best practices and dotMobi style guide emphasize that the user should be able to access all sites (Choice of user experience)

• “One Web” is broken by automatic redirect where a mobile is redirected to a mobile page and blocked from accessing full site.


Predictability: encourage the user to try

• A user may regularly access www.weather.com on his PC.• Will he try it on its mobile?

• If he has a mid-range mobile? If he has no data plan?• Probably not, as he may fear that it is expensive, that it may not display

properly, as it may be too slow to be usable.• But if he tries, he will be redirected to a mobile friendly site, and could

easily find the weather forecast.

• The address “weather.mobi” encourage the user to try by indicating that it is mobile friendly!
