Let’s Celebrate The Christmas season is quickly
approaching again and we are challenged
with the daunting task of buying gifts for
everyone… before Christmas Eve.
Balancing between what we all want and
what we need can be tricky. At Christmas,
we celebrate God’s ultimate gift to us …
Jesus. Each of us is in need of his grace
and forgiveness. This Christmas, may each
of us be inspired to respond by giving generously from our hearts
to supply what our loved ones truly need. Also, may we think of the
countless millions of people all over the world who are doing it
tougher than us, some just struggling to find their next meal.
Australian Lutheran World Service offers ‘Gifts of Grace’, where we
can purchase items of support for families overseas and present
that gesture to someone as a gift for Christmas. Check out the
catalogue that went home to older students last week, or copies
are available in the office.
Sunday Night Life – 17th November All families are invited to come along on
Sunday, the 17th of November, at 5pm, to
share in this devotional time in the school
hall. Year 1C and 1W students are looking
forward to sharing with us the theme ‘The
miracle of the birth of Jesus’. Please bring a
plate of food to share for a time of fellowship
after the service.
Parent Helper Thank You and Morning Tea St John’s would like to invite all
our wonderful parent helpers to a
‘Parent Thank You and Morning
Tea’ on Monday, the 9th of
December, at 10:45am, where
our students will say ‘THANK
YOU’ for all the ways you have
helped in our school community
this year. Please RSVP to the
office by Friday, the 29th of November. Hope that you can come!
Year 6 Canberra Trip The Year 6 Canberra camp was a major highlight of the year for the students and it's not hard to see
why. There was no time for resting as students had to fit in Questacon, Parliament House, the Mt Ainslie
look-out, National Capital Exhibition, Embassy and High Commission drive tour, National Portrait Gallery,
Telstra Tower, indoor rock climbing, Government House, National War Memorial, Australian Institute of
Sport, Royal Australian Mint, High Court of Australia, Electoral Education Centre, Museum of Australian
Democracy and Geoscience Australia Education Centre. Thank you to our Year 6 students for a great week
away - you represented St John's perfectly with the way you conducted yourselves, both in your knowledge
and behaviour. Thanks to our parent helpers who were fantastic at supervising our groups. Without their
help, a trip like this would not be possible. Thanks also to our teachers, Miss Littley-Upton, Mr Landherr and
especially Mr Kotzur, for all your behind-the-scenes work to make this trip flow the way that it did.
Parliament and Civics Education Rebate
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national
capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. Last week Year 6 students from our school undertook
an education tour of the national capital and were given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational
programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture and heritage. To assist Year 6 families in meeting the cost
of the excursion to Canberra, the Australian Government contributes $60 per student under the Parliament and
Civics Education Rebate program. This rebate is paid directly to the school and was deducted from the total
amount payable.
Year 5 Camp Mapleton Last week, the Year 5’s went to Camp Mapleton. They had a fantastic time, participating in a range of activities
including rock climbing, canoeing, team building exercises, archery, bush skills, orienteering, swimming, and the
giant swing. These different activities challenged the students, as they had to be courageous to try new things,
and work together in pairs or groups to achieve their goals and complete their tasks. They also had to listen to
and encourage one another. It was certainly a worthwhile and enjoyable time for all.
Prep 2020 Orientation Mornings Tues 19th November and Thurs 21st November - 9am – 10:30am
This year we have organised two Prep Orientation Mornings.

your child to attend their Orientation Morning. During this time, the students will
participate in activities with Prep staff.

Following in the tradition of previous years, the Year 8 students will be assisting with the evening to
acknowledge the Year 9s as they transition to senior secondary education in 2020. The Year 9 students, parents
and secondary staff are looking forward to an enjoyable evening, where we will reminisce about their time at St
John’s. The formal awards (Academic Awards, etc.) will be announced at the Presentation evening on Thursday,
the 28th of November.
Year 6 to 7 news As the last few weeks of the term are upon us and we finalise numbers for students staying at St John’s in Year
7 in 2020, there is some information that will assist your child in this time of transition. An information pack will
come home or be emailed to new students in the next week. The pack contains general information regarding
books, Chromebook processing and information about the first week of school. We hope this information assists
you all during this time but, if you have any further questions, please make an appointment to see Mrs BP.
St John’s Got Talent Don’t forget to get your nominations in to Mr Sharp by Monday, the 2nd of December, for the school talent show.
Parents need to consider that song choices need to be appropriate both for younger students and our ethos as a
Christian school. We request that all lyrics be submitted to the office as soon as possible for approval. Students
can wear any costume they like for their performance as long as it is appropriate to wear at school.
The head judge for the talent show will be Mrs Coetzee, with Mr Sharp and Mr Eisenmenger making up the
remaining judges.
Music Notes Congratulations to all the students who tried out an instrument in music this week. We have had a fantastic response to enrolments for instrumental music for next year. Enrolment letters will be sent home next week. Thank-you for supporting our Instrumental Music program at St. John's.
Instrumental Music Forms – Current Students Just a reminder could all current instrumental music students please return their Instrumental Music note to the
office to indicate if they are continuing with lessons in 2020. The due date for forms is this Friday, the 15th of
November.
Year 3 Instrumental Music Please remember to return your enrolment form for Instrumental Music as soon as possible, if you would like
your child to be part of the music program next year. Students who have already returned their forms will be
given the opportunity to try out their favourite instruments and to discuss with me the instrument of their choice
for next year. Please email me at [email protected] if you have any questions.
