SHAPER

Alain Teurquetil - ShaperNSP is one of the world’s largest brands in recreational surfing and stand up paddleboarding. Since 2011 NSP has produced some of the fastest SUP race boards on the planet, quickly racking up some of the most sought after and prestigious titles with the help of national and international athletes.

Our race designer, Alain Teurquetil, first came across stand up paddling back in 2008 when his tandem-surfing buddy came back from Hawaii and decided to leave a paddle with Alain. Finding a paddle board in Australia back then was next to impossible, but another coincidence had Alain meet Dale Chapman. Living just an hour away, Dale was the only shaper on the Gold Coast with an interest in SUP design. Intrigued, Alain spent a lot of time paddling and trying out different concepts that year.

Several months later, Alain was traveling back from Europe and visited the Gold Coast once more. This time, Dale was working on 12’6” shapes and unlimited race boards, which caught Alain’s interest. After trying a 16’ race board, the virus really got a hold of him. Exploring different performance designs together, Alain quickly hit the limitations of his software. A solution came from Shape3D, a software company specializing in surf designs. By tweaking their CAD program beyond the metrics of classic surf and windsurf designs, creating advanced race boards from design to finish became effortless.

In 2011, team NSP, under the direction of Trent Pedersen (today’s Brand Manager and CEO), along with his team, produced their first production race boards. These boards were later selected by the ISA to be used in 2012 at the ISA SUP World Championships in Peru. From there, NSP, with their boards quickly gaining a reputation for speed, approached Dale to collaborate on a race program for the brand. Under the condition that a top athlete would be signed to promote, test and help develop the race brand, Travis Grant joined the NSP team that same year and history was made.

Travis rode Alain’s winning designs and Dale shaped the prototypes into existence. In 2013 Alain and Dale tested their first 12’6” design in Europe, laying the foundation of NSP’s current racing and touring program. Alain with the help of our pro team continues to design and develop the NSP race program. Together, Alain, Travis and Titouan Puyo created a race program that secured 4 Molokai titles, 3 Carolina Cup victories and 3 Air France victories with many more to come.

With Hawaiian ultra-talent Annie Reickert joining the team, NSP has some of the very best water men and women training and testing NSP products. Their findings, in combination with Alain‘s designs create NSP products that perform and will continue to be at the top of podiums around the world.

The NSP Carolina is a winning tool for 90% of all racing conditions that a competitive stand-up paddle racer encounters.

The bottom shape of the new Carolina remains the same, as its performance conquered a lot of podium finishes.

Evolved width equals performance gainsA reduced width is nothing without stability. Optimizing the center of gravity for the Carolina resulted in a more balanced riding experience. This allowed us to decrease the width for noticeable performance gains.

By lowering the center of gravity across the entire shape, not just the standing area, athletes benefit consistently, even when they are on the back of the board. The improved stability allows athletes to go more narrow, and reap the benefits of the increased performance throughout the Carolina range. The Ninjas are all about efficiency, saving the energy riders need for longer runs.

Originally a flatwater racer with key design elements that helped in flatwater with disruptive chop, the Ninja evolved into a flatwater board that can handle (mild) sea conditions. Nose diving is minimized by a subtle redistribution of the volume, while an improved cockpit design keeps out more water.

A lower centre of gravity helps stability, which allowed the design team to reduce the width of the 21” model, creating a Ninja with a width of just 20”.

The NSP Ninja gives paddlers an incredibly fast flatwater weapon, but the best part is that the Ninja works in water with textured conditions as well. The increasing demands of flatwater racers, looking to race even narrower shapes, made us design the Ninja in 21” up to 24” widths as well.

SUP RACE

The Sonic is our pure open-water, downwind raceboard that also performs exceptionally well in crosswind and upwind conditions. These boards are at their very best when you hit some chop or string together bump after bump on ocean swell.

Improvements:The evolution of the Sonic focuses on increasing stability by lowering the center of gravity and adopting the tail shape of the incredibly efficient Carolina raceboard.

By lowering the center of gravity riders are able to choose a more narrow board, in turn leading to an increase in speed.

We adopted the tail shape of the Carolina, our most versatile race board. The flattish-square tail allows you to push over the bumps in open ocean swell, while on the flats, the tail sits higher in the water, generating more planing speed.

Inside the cockpit, exclusively in the standing area, we cut out the rails in key areas to enable a wider stance. This subtle tweak rewards riders with additional stability and more comfort. Stability allows riders to focus on winning instead of compensating, especially when riding off the back of the board.

If you are committed to racing, improving your personal best and downwind skills; choose what our pros race and pick a 22”. For anyone else we recommend the 24.25” with the width and stability to keep you on board and get you across the finish line early.

Our most versatile and user-friendly performance racer in the NSP range, with great stability at a narrow width. This stability really makes a difference in crowded buoy turns or during a quick surf when you hit the back of the board.

If you want to kick turn easily, if you want to play in waves, if you want to downwind, and if you are not yet comfortable with a recessed deck, or if you simply prefer to race on a flat deck board, the NSP Puma is for you.

Initially designed for beach racing, the Puma’s have evolved into very capable downwinders and flatwater boards.

A flat deck board suited for all paddlers, in all conditions.

Design:All Puma boards share the same rocker line for faster flatwater performance for the wide models. The slight concave in the center helps the sprinting ability of the boards.

Our NSP paddle range is designed to get you where you want to go with ease, efficiency and speed. Utilizing the best materials, lay-ups and production processes, NSP paddles are engineered with just the right amount of flex, strength and weight to allow for longer paddle sessions on the water.

The power face of our Speedster and Allround models are exactly the same, however the difference lies in the lay-ups. We now offer our top of the line carbon, eco-friendly coco fiber hybrid and an eco, but yet price-friendly carbon hybrid with a more pronounced dihedral.

The raised and extended dihedral provides more strength to the blade and allows a smooth transition and thinner blade. The edge is only 1.7 mm thick which gives a super smooth water entrance with initial bite. The raised tip is parallel to the shaft for aggressive catch and controlling the pace going through the power face.

Every rider will have the same feel when the blade hits the water. The new blades produce a lot of speed, conserve energy and allow paddlers a great session every time. #justaddwater
