Ras Markaz Crude Oil Park

Name of Client : Oman Tank Terminal Company (OTTCO)Estimated Budget : $400,000,000Facility Type : Oil Storage TerminalSector : OilStatus : ConstructionLocation : Ras MarkazFEED : WoodMain Contractor : China Petroleum Pipeline Engineering Corporation (CPPE)Award Date : Q3-2018

BackgroundOman Tank Terminal Company (OTTCO) plans to build a massive crude oil storage hub at Ras Markaz near Duqm. The storage hub will also serve as an alternative export terminal for Omani crude in the event of supply disruptions affecting the nation's only crude export terminal at Mina Al Fahal in Mus-cat Governorate.

The storage terminal will be developed to mainly store crude oil products, with the possibility to store other products in the future. The total capacity of the park once complete is envisioned at 200 million bar-rels. The first phase of the park will have a capacity of 6 million barrels.

Project StatusAs of January 2021, the two single-point moorings and one submarine manifold of the project have arrived at the project site, Ras Markaz Crude Oil Terminal.

Project ScopeThe first phase of the project includes the estab-lishment of 16 tanks with an estimated capacity of 650,000 barrels each; floating platforms for the import and export of oil; a marina for towing boats; 7 km-long undersea pipelines for receiving and exporting oil; a pumping station; laboratories, control rooms, and ad-ministrative offices; two parallel 14-km 42-inch sub-sea oil pipelines; offshore single-point mooring crude oil receiving terminal; submarine manifolds; and other facilities relating to safety and security.

Project FinanceOman Tank Terminal Company (OTTCO) is the client.

MAMMOET, the world’s largest engineered heavy lift-ing and transport service pro-vider, has expanded its fleet with the addition of eight cranes in the Middle East, Africa and Caspian (MEA) region.

Established in the region for over 40 years, Mammoet MEA provides equipment day hire through to turnkey mega-project solutions and is repre-sented in 11 countries across the region: UAE, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Egypt, South Africa, Mozambique, Nigeria, Kazakh-stan and Azerbaijan; with the regional headquarters in Dubai, UAE.

A 600-tonne crawler crane, a 400-tonne, two 250-tonne and 100-tonne capacity all-terrain cranes, as well as three 35-tonne rough terrain cranes have been added to the regional fleet.

The expansion increases Mammoet’s capacity in the region, comple-menting the diverse fleet of equipment for projects and day rental jobs, adding flexibility and greater availability for work in several high-de-mand geographic areas.

The cranes will support Mammoet’s range of engineered heavy lift-ing work, from small construction sites to handling complex lifts in industrial plants. They will be available for customers across all sectors including the power, petrochemical, mining, renewables and civil con-struction sectors throughout the Middle East, Africa and the Caspian region.

Shortly after arrival, all cranes have been deployed on various con-struction projects: a short-term substation transformer installation and infrastructure construction activities throughout the UAE.
