    Highlights of the department of Plant biotechnology 2009-10

    The project under the Earning while learning scheme, 1,50,000 tissue cultured plants have

    been produced and supplied to the farmers in different parts of Maharashtra and Karnataka by

    involving about ten PG students under the guidance of Dr. Sharma and Dr. Meti.

    Teaching schedule for the session 2009 and 2010 has started for the subjects like Fundamental of

    Botany, Plant tissue culture, Environmental biotechnology , Genetics, Recombinant DNA Tech.for UG in the month of June

    One day visit to farmers field located nearby Mahabaleshwar with M.Sc. students involved in

    different aspects of strawberry projects for the survey, collection of different varieties of mother

    plants as well as interaction with growers along with three staff members Dr.Singh, Dr. Bipinraj

    and Dr. Meti

    Practical courses in Fundamental of Botany, Plant tissue culture and RDT have started from the

    month of July by Dr. Meti and Mr. Vikram, Dr. Singh

    Paper setting for the final annual examination for the year 2009-2010 for the subjects like

    Fundamental of Botany, Plant tissue culture, Environmental biotechnology, Agricultural

    biotechnology and Plant biotechnology for UG and PG course with the cooperation of external

    examiners-November and December by Dr.Singh, Dr. Meti, Dr.Pawar

    Ashwagandha plants raised through in vitro ovule culture were successfully transferred to the

    botanical garden of College of Ayurved, BVDU for their field trials under the NAIP project-

    December by Mr.Suresh

    Training related to plant tissue culture of strawberry plants had been given to six higher

    secondary school students of Bharati Vidyapeeth English Medium School for attending science

    exhibitions at district level- November Dr.Meti and Mr. Suresh

    The syllabus for UG and PG for the subjects Botany, Plant tissue culture, Environmental

    biotechnology and Plant biotechnology has been revised Dr. Ranjekar, Dr. Sharma and Dr. Meti

    Laboratory manual for PG Plant biotechnology has been completed by Dr. Meti and Mr.

    Vikram

    Plant tissue culture demonstration has been given to the students of Pharmarcy College of

    Signhagad Institute in four batches- Feb.by Dr. Meti

    Plant tissue culture demonstration has been given to the students of biotechnology of Sinhagad

    Science College, Pune in two batchs- March by Dr. Meti

    UG ( F.Y.) students visited Mahabaleshwar for collection of botanical specimens along with

    Dr.Singh,

    UG ( S.Y) and M.Sc sem IV students visited pollution control board laboratory at Wakadewadi,

    waste water treatment plant at Koregaon park and KF Bioplants at Hadapsar as a industrial tour

    under the supervision of Dr.Singh and Mr.Vikram

    The practical course for PG students have started from August by Dr. Meti

    Eight M.Sc students of RGI and two of YMC in six groups have started their research cum

    training projects from June and successfully completed their experimental work in the month ofMarch under the guidance of Dr. Ranjekar and Dr. Meti

    Sixteen UG students have completed their review writing related to medicinal, biofuel and fruit

    yielding plants under the guidance of Dr. Sharma, Dr. Meti, Dr.Singh,Mr. Vikram

    F.Y., S.Y and T.Y. theory and practical courses have been successfully completed in the subjects

    Botany, Plant tissue culture, RDT (practical), for UG and their journals have been certified.

    Theory course in Environmental biotechnology, Agricultural biotechnology and Genetics have

    also been successfully completed by -Dr. Sharma, Dr. Meti, Dr.Singh, Mr. Vikram

    Tulasi Agro Services at Dharwad, Karnataka has collaborated for marketing of 20,000 banana

    plants per month under the leadership of Dr.Kothari, Dr. Sharma and cooperation of Dr. Meti Interaction with farmers at Yavatmal by NAIP project assistant Mr. Suresh

    Mr. Suresh working as a project assistant in NAIP under the guidance of Dr. Meti has

    suceesfully completed three days corse in advance techniques in Microscopy as resource person

    by providing his experimental live plant cells to the course and enlightening all the participants
