016 promises to be a year of challenge and change. Everywhere youlook the stage seems set for unpredictable and dramatic events that

can and perhaps will alter the course of history. Where should webe looking when the world starts shaking?

In Luke chapter 21, verse 28, Jesus told us where to fix our eyesduring times of trouble. Jesus said, Now when these things begin tohappen, lookup and lift up your heads, because your redemption drawsnear.If we really believe that we are living in the Last Days, perhaps

we need to start living a life that invests in the things that are eternaland not on the things that are temporal.

As a note of encouragement, as some of you may know, ChuckMissler was taken to the hospital in mid-January with a severe caseof pneumonia. We put out a call for prayer and within a very shortperiod of time tens of thousands ofpeople were interceding for Chuck.o everyones amazement, Chucksrate of recovery was a testimony ofGods healing power. Once again,everyone at Koinonia House andKoinonia Institute would like to offerour heartfelt thanks to all of you who

World events have made many people turn to thispassage and see if current events mark the beginningof the fulfilment of this prophecy. As events unfold,

these verses take on more meaning than at any othertime in history.

Ezekiels Prophecy

Te meaning of the name Gog is uncertain.Te name appears only here and in 1 Chronicles 5:4in the Old estament where it identifies one of thesons of Reuben. In the New estament it appears onlyonce in Revelation 20:8. Te associated place name,Magog, appears in the table of nations in Genesis 10:2

with Gomer, Madai, Javan, ubal, Meshech and iras,all sons of Japheth. It also is found in Revelation 20:8.

Modern Day Players

Te above passage describes an invasion of Israel from the north.Later verses describe its destruction once they reach the area of the

mountains of Israel. o fully understand the prophecy, one needs toidentify the major players in this divine drama.

In verses 14, Gog is first mentioned. He is described as the leaderof the land of Magog. He is the prince of Rosh, Meshech and ubal.Tis leader was as unknown to Ezekiel as he is to us today. We do knowGog is not a proper name but a title for the ruler of Magog, just as

the terms pharaoh, kaiser, and czar were titles for rulers and notproper names.

Te tribes identified as Magog, Rosh, Meshech, and ubal can beidentified by Scripture and other ancient writings as peoples who onceoccupied the areas of modern-day Russia.Magog,Meshech, and ubal

were between the Black and Caspian Seas, which today include parts

of Iran, urkey and southern Russia. Some historians

believe the tribesofMeshechand uballater gave their names to cities that today bearthe names of Moscow, Russias capital and obolsk, a major city in theUrals in Siberia. Roshwas in what is now northern Russia. Te nameRoshis the basis for the modern name Russia. Tese names, then, coverthe modern territories of northern and southern Russia in Europe andSiberia to the east in Asia. Te modern nation of Russia encompasses all

these areas mentioned in Ezekiel. o highlight the point, verses 38:15and39:2state these areas lay in the farthest parts of the north. If one wouldhead due north from Israel, a traveler would find themselves in Russia,

with Moscow being almost a straight line due north from Jerusalem.Terefore, it is reasonable to assume modern-day Russia is the countrythat leads this northern confederacy, with Gog as its leader. Tis hasalso been the rabbinic view. TeArtscroll Commentaryon Ezekiel states:

The Gaonim had a tradition that these controls were indeed located inRussia One tradition passed down from the Vilna Gaon states:When the Russian Navy passes through the Bospores [Bosporus Strait](that is, on the way to Dardanelles), it will be time to put on Sabbathclothes (in anticipation of the coming of the Messiah).

In the rabbinic view, during the Magog war, Messiah, the son ofJoseph will be killed which will then bring the coming of the Messiah,the son of David.

Persia

In this scenario Russia is not alone in the invasion of Israel.She is the leader of a confederation. Te other nations involved arelisted in verses 56. Iran (ancient Persia) is also part of that confederacy.Once a pro-West, pro-Israel bulwark against the Arab States, Iran made a180-degree turn in the aftermath of the 1979 Islamic Iranian Revolution.

Iran drew closer to the atheistic Soviet Union and its successor, Russia.Make no mistake. Tis is only a marriage of convenience as far as Iranis concerned. Jihadists may chant Death to America, Death to Israel,but they hate the Russians just as much. Iran allies with Russia onlybecause it serves their immediate purpose. Iran, along with Sudan andSyria, has been classified as state sponsors of terrorism according to theU.S. Department of State.

Cush & Phut

Another one of the players is the land of Cush. Te term is usedboth for a person (son of Ham) and a place (Gen. 2:13; Psa. 68:31;Isa. 18:1.) Phutis mentioned next. Tis nation is also descended from ason of Ham, but as a nation is commonly identified as Libya, althoughit has been argued it was the Punt of Egyptian records, somewhere

along the northeast coast of Africa, perhaps Somalia. Its associationwith Egypt, Cush, and Canaan and the usage of the name in theOld estament makes the Libyan location probable.

Gomer and Togarmah

Next comes Gomer. Gomerwas a Son of Japheth (Gen. 10:2, 3;1 Chr. 1:5, 6) Te Midrash calls Gomer Germaniaas does the almud.

Last in the list is ogarmah, which is present-day Armenia. Verse six addsthe phrase, with all its troopsmany people will accompany you. Tis tropemay simply define the numbers of the nations already mentioned, or itmay include other nations not previously mentioned. In all probability,it is the former that is implied.

From the text, it would appear the nations involved in an attackagainst Israel include, but may not be limited to, an alliance involvingIran, Ethiopia, Somalia, Germany and Armenia, with Russia as

their leader.

One thing that should stand out to the reader is not a single Arabnation participates in this invasion. While some of the nations listed hereare Moslem, they are not Arab. Another observation is these nations aregeographically located both north and south of Israel, but it is Russia thatis the controlling nation and allied with Moslem, but non-Arab, states.

Before 1991, this passageof Ezekiel had been interpretedas being a communist invasion.

With the fall of the Iron Curtainand the dissolution of the SovietEmpire, many have had to rethink

this passage. One can find manyworks on the bargain book table that became pass in viewof modern events. While there is no longer an Evil Empire,as President Reagan termed it does not mean the Russian interpretationof the passage has to be completely abandoned. One needs to remembera system of government was never mentioned in Scripture, merelygeographic areas. Place names may change, but geography does not.

Te Orthodox Jewish commentaryArtscrollon Ezekiel 38:2makethis observation:

Yerushalayim Megillah 3:7, which renders Magog as Gutiya (or Gutya,) the Goths, a group of nomadic tribes who destroyed the Scythians andmade their home in Scythian territory.

Considering that the Goths were a Germanic people, the identificationof Magogs descendants as the Goths in accord with Targum Yonasan toGenesis 10:2, which renders Magog as Geramemia, which in BereshitRabbah 37:1 is given as Germanya.

One needs to remember

a system of government

was never mentioned

in Scripture, merely

geographic areas.

The Nature of the Attack

Te next section of this passage, Ezekiel 38:79, answers the questionas to where the invasion takes place:

Be prepared. Yes, prepare yourselfyou and all of your manybattalions that have gathered together around you to protect you.Many days from nowin the latter yearsyou will be summonedto a land that has been restored from violence. You will be gathered

from many nations to the mountains of Israel, which formerly hadbeen a continual waste, but which will be populated with people who

have been brought back from the nations. All of them will be livingthere securely. Youll arise suddenly, like a tornado, coming like awindstorm to cover the land, you and all your soldiers with you,along with many nations.

Ezekiel 38:79, ISV

Verse 7 continues to name Gog as the leader of this confederacyand verse 8 names the specific location of where the invasion takesplace: the Land of Israel, more specifically in the mountains of Israel.Verse nine goes on to describe the size of the invasion. It is absolutelymassive, painting a picture of a storm cloud that covers the entire land.Tese verses introduce a concept that was not true until recent times:a modern Jewish state.

Later on is another passage that shows the necessity of theestablishment of the Jewish State and a regathering in unbelief. Israelhas to be a state before this invasion can occur. Regardless of onesviewpoint as to when this invasion occurs, each viewpoint does requirethe preexistence of the Jewish State. Verse eight describes this JewishState as:

1) A land that has been restored from violence.

2) A land that will be populated with people whohave been brought back from the nations.

3) A land with mountains that have been a continualwaste. and

4) A land that is brought forth out of the peoples.

Ezekiel is not describing an Israel that ever existed in ancienttimes, but all these statements are true of present-day Israel. Tis beganoccurring toward the end of the nineteenth century, culminating with

statehood in 1948. It was a nation as Isaiah described being born in asingle day.

Before the formation of theState of Israel, what was known by many as Palestine was

indeed a wasteland. As Mark wain wrote in Te Innocents Abroad:

Nazareth is forlorn ... Jericho the accursed lies a moldering ruin today,even as Joshuas miracle left it more than three thousand years ago:Bethlehem and Bethany have nothing about them now to remind onethat they once knew the high honor of the Saviors presence; Bethsaidaand Chorzin have vanished from the earth, and the desert places

round about them, where thousands of men once listened to the Saviorsvoice and ate the miraculous bread, sleep in the hush of a solitude that isinhabited only by birds of prey and skulking foxes.

Since then, the waste places have been rebuilt and resettled ona more massive scale.

Furthermore, Israel in this passage is regathered in unbelief, for onlyafter the invasion do many in Israel turn to the Lord. So yet anotherpassage demands a restored Jewish State in unbelief.

The Purpose of the Attack

Ezekiel 38:1013, answers the question as to why this invasion takesplace on the part of Russia:

Tis is what the Lord GOD says: Tis is whats going to happen onthe very day that you begin your invasion: Youll be thinking, makingevil plans and boasting, Im going to invade a land comprised of

open country that is at rest, its people living confidently, all of whoseinhabitants will be living securely, with neither fortification nor barson their doors. Im going to confiscate anything I can put my hands on.Ill attack the restored ruins and the people who have been gatheredtogether from the nations, who are acquiring livestock and other

goods, and who live at the center of the worlds attention. Businessmen

based in Sheba, Dedan, arshish, and all of its growling lions willask you, Are you coming for war spoils? Have you assembled yourarmies to carry off silver and gold, and to gather lots of war booty?

Ezekiel 38:1013, ISV

The Spoils of War

Te reason for the Russian-led invasion is to take spoil (booty).What Russia is exactly looking for is not stated in the text. Te textmentions livestock, goods, silver and gold. However, these are generalOld estament references for the spoils of war. Much speculationhas been involved in what it is Israel has that Russia would want.Given what a traveler would find in the land before the formation of theState of Israel, one would think Russia was in dire need of sand and rocks.

Closer investigation of the region led to the realization that the

answer could have been found in the Dead Sea. Te waters of theDead Sea contain over 45 billion tons of sodium, chlorine, sulfur,potassium, calcium, magnesium and bromide. Tese chemicals havetheir uses; indeed, magnesium has been called Te King of Mineralsbecause of its varied medical uses. Going to war, however for a bunchof salt is unlikely.

After the 1967 Six-Day War another explanation was offered for aRussian invasion of the Promised Land. Scientists searching the SinaiPeninsula in the five years after Israel captured it from Egypt found signsof copper, tungsten, and feldspar deposits under the shifting sands ofthe desert. ungsten is an expensive, rare metal used for hardening steeland other high-grade metals. Some believed these ores could be part of

the spoils the Magog alliance would try to wrench from the Israel.

Te year 2009, however, brought further clarity of the passage,for it was in January of that year the amar gas field was discovered.Te amar gas field was a major gas find in the Mediterranean Sea offthe coast of Israel. Te field is located in Israels exclusive economic zone,

roughly 50 miles (80 km) west of Haifa in waters over one mile (1,700meters) deep. Peoples interest was really piqued the following year whenin December 2010 another gas field was discovered. Te Leviathan gas

field is a large natural gas formation in the Mediterranean Sea off thecoast of Israel, 30 miles (47 km) southwest of the amar.

What could be the final piece of the puzzle may have been supplied

in October 2014 when oil was discovered in the Golan Heights.

Because of these three discoveries Israel has become a much moreattractive target for supplying the spoils of war. ogether, the amarand Leviathan fields are estimated to contain 1 trillion (1,000 billion)cubic feet of natural gas, enough to supply Israels energy needs for thenext 50 years. (Tough those of us who take the Bible seriously doubt

it will need natural gas for that long.)

Te oil field in the Golan Heights is also looking to be a major energyfind. Israeli business website Globesquotes Yuval Bartov, chief geologistof Afek Oil and Gas as saying:

Delekenergy Site - Tamar offshore gas elds.

We are talking about a strata [sic] which is 350 meters thick and whatis important is the thickness and the porosity. On average in the worldstrata are 20-30 meters thick, so this is ten times as large as that, so we aretalking about significant quantities. The important thing is to know theoil is in the rock and thats what we now know.

Te estimated size of the field, if found to be true, would make Israela world player in the oil market.

Enter Russia

Tis is where things get interesting.

Assuming Israel can get around its own bureaucratic morass anddevelop these fields, it has a few export markets it can service. If theydecide to export some of their production, the only viable marketsavailable to them are in Egypt, Jordan and possibly urkey. Given thosecountries current energy needs and the price they would pay, thosemarkets do not look very attractive.

Tere is one other place, however, that could prove lucrative Europe.

Europe is starving for hydrocarbons. Tat continent was on aprogram of going nuclear, but after the nuclear power plant disasterin Fukushima, Japan, the EU has cooled to using atomic power forits energy needs. In fact, several countries, Germany in particular,

is shutting down their nuclear power plants. Te EU is trying toreplace nuclear power with alternative energy sources, but they cannotbring these sources on-line fast enough to make up the energy deficit.Tat leaves hydrocarbons to fill in the breech.

Much of the EUs oil needs came from Libya, but since the ArabSpring, much of that oil has dried up. Tat has left the three largest

oil suppliers to Europe being the Russian Federation, Kazakhstan andAzerbaijan. (Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are largely under Russianinfluence.) As for gas, Russia has supplied Europe with the lions shareof its needs, which has left Europe beholden to Russian interests.Tis became painfully clear in January 2009 when Russia shut offnatural gas supplies to Europe in the wake of the Ukrainian Civil War.

Europe imports about half its natural gas from Russia (about 15% of itstotal imports) through the Ukraine pipelines. When Russia expressed itsdispleasure at the European sanctions against it by closing the gas valves

to the EU capitals, the only thing Europe could do was shiver in the dark.

Russia likes having this giant energy stick to use against theEuropeans and will try mightily hard to keep it.

Tat is one reason Russia is in Syria.

The Syrian Card

Even before the Ukrainian gas embargo, Europe had been looking atalternative gas pipeline routes bypassing Russia. Tere were two routesproposed, one through Iran and Iraq, the other through the more pro-

Many believe that refusal bred the start of the Syrian Civil War.Te natural gas exporting countries, both Sunni and Shia, decided theyneeded Assad out of the way to open an avenue for their gas to enterEuropean markets.

Vladimir Putin jumped into Syria with both feet to assure Assadstayed in power and Russias dominance in the EU remained in place.

Here comes Israel

Imagine the Kremlins concern when huge gas and oil fields were

found in Israel in an area where both gas and oil could be transportedunder the Mediterranean to Europe, bypassing Russia.

It doesnt take a large stretch of the imagination to see Russia movingin to stabilize the situation in Syria and then moving further southinto Israel.

Ezekiels prophecy does not lay out Magogs entire battle plan andmaybe Russia only would see a move on Israel as Act One of a biggerplay of gaining a solid foothold on the entire Middle East hydrocarbon

supplies. A Russian takeover of Israel would give Russia such a footholdwithout overly upsetting the Arabs since they would be in favor of thedestruction of Israel even though they would be very nervous if it meansa Russian army in the area.

Regardless of the publicly stated reasons for Russias interest in Syria,the main reason for their involvement is self-interest. It is stated in verse

ten that the invasion is premeditated by the Russians, for they will bethinking, making evil plansand resolve to invade for the purpose of spoils(vv. 1112). (And whether the others admit it or not, self-interest is thereason for the involvement of the other players, both East and West.If the main export of Syria were mangoes, no one would be there.)

In verse 13, a second group of merchant nations are listed as

protesting this invasion, for they recognize it to be an invasion for spoiland for nothing else Businessmen based in Sheba, Dedan, arshish, and allof its growling lions will ask you, Are you coming for war spoils? Have youassembled your armies to carry off silver and gold, and to gather lots of warbooty?(ISV) Shebaand Dedanare countries in northern Arabia, whichshows that at least some of the Arab states will not favor the Russianpresence in the Middle East. Another nation named is arshish, followed

by the phrase with all the growling lions thereof. Tis phrase is a Hebrewidiom meaning nations that have come out of arshish. (Te RevisedStandard Version translates the idiom as all its villages).

So Where Is Tarshish?

While the idiom may be clear, the identity of arshish and thoseother growling lions are not. Some scholars place arshish as a place

as distant from Israel. Many countries have been proposed as the site forarshish, from Sardinia to Great Britain. Te most commonly acceptedidentification is Spain where the name artessus hints at arshish.If Spain is the arshish of Ezekiel, the nations spawned would includethose of Central and South America, and possible even Brazil if oneaccepts the texts as describing geography rather than political systems.

(Brazil was settled by Portugal, not Spain, but the two countries sharethe Iberian Peninsula.) Another proposed location was in England, andif this is what was meant by arshish, the growling lions could include

the United States of America, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and otherpresent-day western democracies. (Tis would answer the question someask, Where is the United States in End-ime Prophecy?)

Regardless of the exact identity of arshish, it is this group thatissues a protest. However, it does not go beyond the protest stage. Russiainvades, and then the invading army is disposed of with no help from

the protestors.Gods Rebuke

In Ezekiel 38:1416, the invasion is seen as having begun and furtheranswers the question why, but this time it is seen from Gods viewpoint:

Terefore, Son of Man, prophesy to Gog and tell him, Tis is whatthe Lord GOD says: When the day comes when my people are living

securely, wont you be aware of it? Youll come in from your home inthe remotest parts of the north. Youll come with many nations, allof them riding along on horses. Youll be a huge, combined army.Youll come up to invade my people Israel like a storm cloud to coverthe land. In the last days, Gog, Ill bring you up to invade my landso that the world will learn to know me when I show them how holyI am before their very eyes.

Ezekiel 38:1416, ISV

In verses 1416a, the invasion begins and the confederate armycovers the land like a storm cloud in massive swarms. Hence, there isinitial success by Russia. In verse 16b, Gods reason is given for allowingthis invasion to occur, as over against Russias reasons given in thepreceding verses: that He might be sanctified in the eyes of the nations

in light of what is about to occur.

The Final Act

In the final demonstration of Gods power in the prophecy, Ezekiel38:1723describes how God moves out in judgment (vv. 1718) todestroy the invading army. Tis is followed by the answer to the question

of howthe invading army is disposed of and destroyed. Several causesare listed: earthquake (vv. 1920); civil war breaking out among theinvading soldiers themselves (v. 21); pestilence, blood, flood, hailstones,

fire and brimstone (v. 22). Since these things destroy the invading armywithout the aid of other nations, Gods purpose is seen as succeeding inits objective. God will show His holiness and make Himself known inthe eyes of many people (v. 23).

Watching from the Mezzanine

However these events unfold, if the pre-ribulation view is correct

(and we believe it is), we will watch these events, the gathering, thefinal battle and the aftermath from the mezzanine. All of these eventswill have been preceded by the Harpazo, commonly called the Rapture.

In the meantime, we are undoubtedly living in exciting times, timesin which prophecy is being fulfilled before our eyes. If the events seemtoo trying all we need to do is look up and remember the last verses

John wrote in Revelation:Te one who is testifying to these things says, Yes, I am comingsoon! Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! May the grace of the Lord Jesus bewith all the saints. Amen.

property in the previous sentence which can be summarized: If A is Band B is C, then A is C. Te three - Jesus, the Word and the ruth - areinseparable and any assault on one is an assault on the other two.

We exposed this three-faceted assault on the ruth by the publiceducation system during previous conference presentations and PersonalUpdate articles. Te enlightened Gnostic challenged by John in hisNew estament epistles now occupy all sorts of academic positions andhold all sorts of academic parchments. School curricula and scholasticculture marginalize the truth about the ruth. Satan pursues the same

foothold in kindergartens today as he did in the Eden-garden longago. Te erosion of truth through our public schools today masqueradesas revisionist history, evolutionary science, values education, diversitytolerance, multicultural awareness, and situational conundrums.

C.S. Lewis wrote in his bookTe Abolition of Man, ()he old(education) was a kind of propagation

- men transmitting manhood tomen; the new (education) is merelypropaganda. he picture of thisassault on the ruth is completed byadding to this academic progress theongoing political and bureaucratic

reforms to replace teachers with technology; parents with co-parents;

common sense with Common Core; and local regulatory control withfederal money and mandates. Since the conference, President Obamasigned into law the most recent reauthorization of Johnsons 1965 billdubbed the Elementary and Secondary Education Act or ESEA.

We do well as parents and as taxpayers to monitor the trajectory andtactics of the school reform movement. Few public policies have such a

direct and daily effect on our families and on our faith.Which one - Jesus, the Word or the ruth - is being attacked in

John 8 wherein families, specifically fatherhood, served as the topicunder debate between Jesus and the Pharisees? In verse 19 the Phariseesask Jesus, Where is Your Father? Jesus concludes His response withYou are of your father the devil (who) is a liar and the father of it.

Te Pharisees wanted to discredit Jesus because nobody could identifyHis biological father. Te Pharisees twist the fundamental doctrine of thevirgin birth of Jesus - hinted at in Genesis 3:15(the seed of the woman)

and revealed in Isaiah 7:10-15- beyond recognition. Isaiah records aconversation between God and Ahaz in which God gives a miraculousand unmistakable sign of the identity of the Messiah. Terefore theLord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, andbear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel. Of course the identity ofthe biological father of the Messiah would be unavailable; this passagemakes clear no man will hold a legitimate claim to that title. And yet

the learned Pharisees changed the sign of the Messiah into a suspicionof Him. Which one is under attack - all three are under attack because

Jesus, the Word and the ruth are inseparable.

History credits Plato with developing the Correspondence Teoryof ruth which essentially proposes the truth or falsehood of a statementis determined by its correspondence to the reality in the world around

it. Bertrand Russell reduces succinctly this theory to the idea that abelief is true when it corresponds to a fact and it is false when there isno corresponding fact. While this seems axiomatic it fails to align withthe popular notion of truth today.

Consider the following four examples:

Despite an objective measurement called Body Mass Index (BMI)which suggests otherwise, some people suffer from eating disorderswhen they, despite having a low BMI, identify themselves withoverweight people.

Despite every gene in the body identifying the gender of theindividual, society defends the right of the individual to self-assigna gender identity.

Rachel Dolezal made headlines in 2015 when, while holding

the title of the president of the National Association for theAdvancement of Colored People (NAACP), she was white insteadof black as she claimed. She explained, I identify as black.

A lesser known example of what may be called identificationtruth occurs when otherwise healthy individuals maim their armsor legs because they identify with disabled people. Tese so-called

transabled individuals go beyond mere identification and actuallymake themselves disabled.

Not only would these conflictsbetween the truth and the factslikely chafe Bertrand Russell, butsocietys response ranges from callingone a disease, another dishonest,yet another dauntless, and the lastone disturbing.

So where do we go from here? Tis begins a multi-part seriesdesigned to equip the serious Christian to embrace the obligationand opportunity evident when Paul described the Church as

Te Church of the Living God which is the Pillar and Foundationof the ruth. (1 imothy 3:15). The Antidote for Apostasy

1) Stay Connected:Te writer to the Hebrews states, Let us holdfast the confession of our hope without wavering, for

He who promised is faithful. And let us consider oneanother in order to stir up love and good works, notforsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as isthe manner of some, but exhorting one another, andso much the more as you see the Day approaching.4Te Church is not called to build bunkers butto gather with the brethren so that the Body of

Christ may be built up and the Gospel might be preached.Fellowship with Christians you trust is essential. Secure alliances

with fellow Believers provides bridges rather than fences.Remember the wisdom from Solomon, A man who isolateshimself seeks his own desire; he rages against all wise judgment.5

2) Stay Sharp:Peter identified the objective of Satan by stating,

Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversarythe devil walks about like a roaring lion, seekingwhom he may devour.6Paul warned imothy,Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, aworker who does not need to be ashamed, rightlydividing the word of truth.Soberness is a stateof mind. Tis mind is not controlled by the

influences of the World. 3) Stay on Target:Tere are many voices that are crying out forattention or offering advice in theses troublingtimes. Terefore, many people seek the safety

of their own personal storehouses. Tey tend tomajor on the minor issues which causes them tomiss the major issues of life itself; the temporaleclipses the eternal. Jesus taught, Do not lay up

for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth andrust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;

but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth

nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.8

Again, in review of Pauls instructions to imothy we see himsaying, ill I come, give attention to reading, to exhortation,to doctrine. Do not neglect the gift that is in you, which was

given to you by prophecy with the laying on of the hands of theeldership. Meditate on these things; give yourself entirely to them,that your progress may be evident to all. ake heed to yourself andto the doctrine. Continue in them, for in doing this you will saveboth yourself and those who hear you.9We should never underestimate the power and provision of God toward those whotrust in Him.10

4) Stay in Gods Word: Our best source of direction for the

course of our life is the resource of Godseternal Word. Most of us are familiar with2 imothy 3:16, All Scripture is given by inspirationof God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof,

for correction, for instruction in righteousness,that the man of God may be complete, thoroughlyequipped for every good work.Do we actually use the

Word of God as our primary source for guidance andprotection? Do we weigh our decisions on the scales of the HolyScripture, do we drive our opinions through the gates of Biblicalscrutiny, or do test our passions in the fire of Gods judgment?
