Message froM Board President grant Mashek and

head of school fanning M. hearon iii

ear Friends of Palm Beach Day Academy,

Greetings from Seaview Avenue and Flagler Drive! The Annual Report which follows is emblematic of the incredible support the school has experienced for the past 99 years. What was once a small private venture to educate the children of seasonal residents of Palm Beach has grown into a multi-million dollar academic enterprise whose alumni are celebrated worldwide for their achievements and contributions to society. In addition, we now have over 400 students and 92 faculty/staff spread over two campuses, all happily engaged in learning how to work hard and be kind. Most importantly, we can officially report that we still continue to deliver on the mission of PBDA to provide an academic environment of excellence in a compassion-rich environment. In order to be successful at such an ambitious goal, we rely on the generous support of our parents, alumni, and friends. Reading the names of all those who have given to the school in the past year is to recognize the importance of PBDA in so many people’s lives.

As we report to you on the past success of the school, we are also busy planning for its future. The Florida Council of Independent Schools (FCIS) will be conducting its re-accreditation of PBDA in April, and the Board of Trustees is currently engaged in the creation of a new Strategic Plan which will provide us with a clear path towards intentional enrollment growth and financial sustainability. It is an exciting time to be a part of PBDA as we are also busy planning for the school’s Centennial in 2021. We look forward to inviting everyone to the multiple festivities that will be held to celebrate our special school, the oldest independent school in the state of Florida.

Once again, we are sincerely grateful for your continued support of Palm Beach Day Academy and look forward to seeing you on campus soon.

Respectfully,

Grant Mashek President, Board of Trustees

Palm Beach Day acaDemy Revenue

Your gifts to our school support the people and programs that make Palm Beach Day Academy so special. That includes talented teachers, rigorous academic programs, visual and performing arts, athletic teams, professional development and the maintenance of our existing facilities and grounds. Philanthropic gifts also provide financial assistance to qualified

students.

Palm Beach Day Academy is a strong family of parents and educators that work together for the benefit of each child. This steadfast partnership is critical to our mission of nurturing excellence in all endeavors - academics, the arts, athletics, service and character. Annual FundUnder the leadership of Helen and Matt Lorentzen and Allyson and Grant Mashek, the Annual Fund received contributions from trustees, current parents, alumni, parents of alumni, grandparents, foundations, administrators, teachers, staff and friends totalling $882,756.00. We are proud to announce that 70% of our parents supported the Annual Fund and 100% of our faculty, staff and administrators contributed to this most important advancement initiative.

Fundraising EventsMission Possible: February 21st marked the first ever day of giving for Palm Beach Day Academy. Armed with a $250,000 commitment from the Board of Trustees, we launched Mission Possible, a fundraising challenge presented to the PBDA community to match the collective donation from the board. More than 200 parents, faculty, administrators and board members, along with incoming Head of School Fanning Hearon III and his wife Christy, gathered in the Halmos Activity Center on the Upper Campus for a fun and festive cocktail party to kick off the 24 hour online giving period. Supporters were invited to make a gift online and encourage others to do the same in the spirit of raising the most funds in just one day. “We are profoundly appreciative of the contributions we have received, which are essential to supporting our faculty, students and programs,” said Billy Peebles, Interim Head of School. “Each donor’s benevolence has allowed us to become the outstanding school we are today, and as we approach Palm Beach Day Academy’s 100th birthday, we are thankful for the ongoing commitment of this great community to nurturing excellence in all areas of school life: academics, the arts, athletics, service and character.”

Board of Trustees Development Committee Chair, Andrea Kosoy, Board of Trustees President, Lourdes Fanjul and lead volunteer Tara Vecellio thank all those who attended the party and contributed to Mission Possible.

Bulldog Card: Thanks to the partnership of local shops, restaurants and spas, the Bulldog Card raised $19,500 for Palm Beach Day Academy during the holiday season.

PBDA’s FutureAs we plan for the coming months and years into our future, we must continue to strive for financial stability, good financial management, and strong enrollment. We must rely on our dedicated Board of Trustees and the continuing generosity on the part of all Palm Beach Day Academy Families.

We sincerely thank all who have supported our school through gifts, time and thoughtful creative input.
