Twentse Wel le wi l l serve as a wel l - informed tour guide to nearby excavat ions, bui ld ings, research labs, landscapes and local customs. With objects, stor ies, games, models, movies and sounds we have created a portal to the region.

Nominated for the European Museum of the World award 2010.

Twentse Wel le is a museum dedicated to the interact ion between nature and cul ture in th is speci f ic , eastern part of the Nether lands. I t presents the combined col lect ions of a natural h istory museum, a museum on regional cul ture and a museum special ised in the text i le industry that dominated this area from the late 19th century onwards.

Al though we developed an elaborate design concept to make vis i tors aware of the constant interact ion between nature and the man-made environment, the whole exhibi t ion could also be seen as an introduct ion to the real wor ld in which the museum is located. I ts purpose is to l ink the objects and stor ies of the museum to the outside wor ld.

Vis i tors learn to understand and appreciate elements of the local cul ture and/or nature that they later v is i t in the nearby surroundings. In pract ice Museum
