Issue 4 17 March 2020
Principal’s Message
Given the current circumstances with COVID-19, many guidelines and restrictions are regularly changing within schools and in the wider community. It is really important that we all remain calm and follow the most current advice made available. The note I sent home yesterday summarised our precautionary measures that have been implemented. Please find that note below. Dear Parents/Carers Overnight we received communication from the NSW Department of Education who have been working closely with NSW Health. Schools have been asked to implement some state-wide operational guidelines. The following summarises the precautionary measures we are putting in place. Excursions and Extra Curricula From Monday 16 March all excursions and extra curricula activities will be postponed until further notice. This includes: Year 4 CARES Year 5 Graffiti Education Easter Hat Parade – we will work on a plan to still have the Easter bunny

Students will not play outside in the mornings. All students are to head straight to their classrooms at 8.30am. SRE/Scripture All SRE classes have been cancelled until further notice. Students on Overseas Holidays and Cruises In line with the information from the Australian Government all travellers must self-isolate for 14 days on arrival to Australia, including Australian citizens and residents. Parent/Carer Helpers We appreciate the important role our parents and community members have helping out with a range of activities. However, until further notice we are going to discontinue this to further manage our contact with the wider community. Healthy School Strategy From tomorrow we will implement a Healthy School Strategy that will involve: Introducing regular hand washing schedules Cough and sneeze etiquette lessons Sending home any child or teacher who presents with flu like symptoms Increasing ventilation in rooms – please ensure your child has a jumper in case they get cold Introducing an enhanced cleaning schedule to ensure desks and chairs are sanitised regularly We encourage all students K-6 to bring their own pencils/pens during this time if possible, to help minimise the sharing of these items. When using shared equipment students will be encouraged to wash their hands. Students with Underlying Health Issues We have made contact with the families with children we have identified that may be more at risk from COVID-19 to make a plan on a case by case basis. If you feel this is your child and we have not contacted you yet, please contact the office to speak with one of the Deputy Principals. Other We will not be implementing any grade or stage based activities until further notice. School photos and Parent/Teacher Interviews are still going ahead at this time. I will communicate any changes to this in the coming weeks. If a family member has been diagnosed with COVID-19, we ask that you notify the school. Self-isolation requirements will be discussed at that time on a case by case basis.

If your child/children is/are unwell, please do not send them to school and seek medical advice. We will continue to keep you updated if there are significant changes or new developments and do encourage all parents/carers to remain personally informed themselves of the latest Government advice. If you have any further questions, please contact the school. I thank you in advance for your cooperation and calm during this time. Natalie Mansour Principal
NEWS FROM THE LIBRARY
Premier’s Reading Challenge The Premier’s Reading Challenge has been put in place by the NSW Government to promote reading. It opened on Monday 2 March and it closes on Friday 28 August. This year Kindergarten students are reading books in the library which will enable them to complete their PRC at school. Year 1 and 2 students are reading books in the classroom with their teachers. Students from Years 3-6 are required to complete the PRC independently. If your child is in Year 3-6, then they may need your support in completing the Premier’s Reading Challenge this year. It is up to them to complete it themselves. Students can borrow PRC books from the library and record them online by: Going to the PRC 2020 website https://online.det.nsw.edu.au/prc/home.html Logging on using their DEC students login and password that they use at school (see the menu on
the left hand side of the screen) Record the books that they have read by author, title or number If you have trouble doing this, then feel free to list the books on a sheet of paper and give them to Mrs Dalitz, Mrs Magner or Mrs Apps. Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 students can read their own books and log them online too. However, at school we support their first years of the challenge by reading texts to them.
Students are able to log books that they have read since last year’s PRC closed, which was 30 August. So everyone should be able to add books already!! Students who complete the challenge receive a certificate at the end of the year. Students who have completed the challenge over four years have the opportunity to receive a gold certificate. Happy reading!!

Donations of Easter eggs, chocolate bunnies or bilbies are gratefully accepted through our school office. Additionally the fundraising committee welcomes donations of cellophane for wrapping to assist in the preparations of prizes. One book of tickets per family will be sent home today. Tickets are 50c each or 3 for $1. Money and ticket stubs are due back to school by Tuesday 7 April. Prizes will be drawn on Thursday 9 April 2020.
