• Start pilot phase: May 2007

• October 2007: publication first 10 courses (MSc-programs)

• December 2008: completion pilot phase (22 courses published)

• January 2009: second phase (2009/2010) approved by central board

• September 2009: 34 courses published

• December 2009: aim 40-45 courses including first year Bachelor courses (study choice)

Experiences

• Author rights: 2 courses could not be published, awareness campaign set up by TU Library

• Student-assistants can do most of the ‘content’ work • Courses: More courses published than anticipated• Workflow: Metadata on object level very time consuming, little

added value• OpenCourseWare leads ‘automatically’ to higher quality of the

material• Faculty want to be more in control when the material is published• Retiring professors often eager to publish• Costs: around € 1,750 per ECTS but strong variations• Still questions: is this indeed for free???• Internal reasons to join the initiative are quite different

• First: project organization (informal)• Bureau OpenER since 01-05-2008 (0,8 FTE).

• Main tasks: author rights, guidance students assistants, lay-out, metadata, dissemination

• OCW more and more geared to other ongoing activities • Network building (OCWC, CORE, OER Commons),• Board member OCWC (Anka Mulder)• One editorial board for all related initiatives

Current workflow: • Lecturer prepares and offers course for publication• Risk Analysis Bureau OpenER• Transfer course material to OCW website

• Documents in HIVE• Metadata on object level (key words)

• Lecturer cannot adjust material after publication

• Very time consuming for Bureau OpenER
