    Basic Navigation

    Once you log in, along the left side of the site you will see whats called the navigation tree. It isa series of links to different parts of the course.

    Navigation Tree

    When you click Course Home, it opens a list of linksCourse Documents contain s links to

    - syllabus- course policies- etc

    Gradebook lists your individual homework, test andquiz grades. However, it does not have yourmodule grades, so record these grades in your

    Student Instructional Workbook as youcomplete them.

    Multimedia Library You can search by chapter andsection for any available Multimedia availablein the chapter. Including

    - animations- videos- podcasts- PowerPoints- Chapter Test Prep videos

    Browser Check - Link for Browser Check to make sure your computerhas all the plug-ins needed.

    - link for an important animation explaining how to useMath XL

    -Support - lists links to various resources for help.

    Module Workbook- Contains PDF files of the moduleworkbooks.

    Module Workbook

    In Course Home there is a link to theModule Workbooks. It brings up a link tothe Student Workbook.If you click that link, it will open a newwindow that has links to the ModuleWorkbook for every module. (see below)If you lose your Module Workbook, youcan replace it by printing it up at home.

    Modules

    When you click one of the modules, you will get a link to the sections in that particular module.

    When you click one of themodules tabs in the navigationtree, for example Module 1, itwill bring up a flowchart such asthe one shown below in the nexttext box.

    There is a list of the sectionscovered in module as well aslinks to the tests and pretests.

    (A prefix of BM on the sectionindicates the section is from theBasic Mathematics Textbook. A

    prefix of IA indicates that thesection is from the Introductory

    Algebra Textbook.)

    When you click on any of theindividual section links, it willbring up a flowchart for whatneeds to be done to completethe module.

    Workbook: Clicking study thetext will open up the ebook atthe beginning of that particularsection.

    Generally, you wont need touse the Module Workbook linkunless you lost your workbookand need to print up anotherone.

    Resources: Section videosand other resources for thesections are available. Some ofthe resources includeanimations, PowerPoints etc. Awindow pops up that requiresyou to chooses the section forwhich you want the resources.

    HW: The homeworkassignment link will bring you toa page listing the homeworkassignments for the module.The next section will explainhow to do homework in moredetail.

    Sec. BM1.2: The last link in the

    flow chart brings you to the nextsection in the module.

    Doing Homework in MyLabsPlus

    Click the homework assignment link to get to the onlinehomework assignments.

    That will open a new window witha list of all the homeworkproblems in the module.

    Start with the first homework.You need to get at least 80% onthe homework before you can dothe next assignment.

    (Required Re-test Review HW is

    only required for students whodidnt pass the Module test.)

    Once you click on the link for thehomework, you will get a list ofall the questions. Click on any ofthe questions to begin workingon the problems.

    The homework problems look like this:

    Above the problem are links to the other problems in the homework. The double arrows willtake you to the next group of problems. The single arrows will move you from problem toproblem. Clicking on any of the numbers will take you to that particular problem in thehomework assignment.

    The blue box to the left ofthe problems is the mathpalette. You use this ifyour answer requires aspecial form such asfraction, mixed number, orsquare root form. Click onthe form you need andthen enter the numbers inthe appropriate place.

    There is a useful tour for how to enter your homework answers. You can find it byclicking Browser Check in the Course Home and then clicking the link titled How toEnter Answers Using the MathXL Player

    Using Homework Tools

    Write each question in your notebook. Leave enough room to solve it neatly. (Usepencil.) Its important that you write out the work for the problem in your notebook.

    To the right of each problem in the homework, thereare help buttons.

    Help Me Solve ThisThis will walk you through the problem asking youleading questions. After walking through theproblem, you redo the problem with differentnumbers.

    Show Me an Example This option will walk you through a problem

    step-by-step Be careful when you use this! YOU need to

    do the work out yourself dont just copy howthe problem was done out for you.

    TextbookThis will take you to the book and page that the topicis covered.

    Ask My ProfessorWhen you select this option, you will be sending toyour instructor an email that contains the problemand a note that asks the instructor to help you withthe problem.

    Videos and animations A quick video or animation of the topic

    If you get an answer wrong, you can retry the question. After the 3 rd incorrect answer,the problem will reset to a similar problem. Keep working the problem until you get itcorrect.

    Taking Tests and Quizzes

    After the test, note which problems you got wrong and look them over in your bluebook.Hand in the bluebook after completing the test.

    For the Module Pretest: Must be done during your regularly scheduled class. (Not during lab.) No prerequisites. Need password If you get 75% or better, you are done with the module. If you get less than 75%, begin working on the module. All work must be done neatly in a blue book and turned in to the instructor.

    For the Module Review Quiz: Must complete homework and Module Workbook before taking the Review Quiz Can be done outside of class.

    Does not need a password. Need a grade of 80% or better to take the Module Test. Can take more than once. Review the quiz after taking it to see which problems you got wrong. Results are sent to the Study Plan. Use the Study Plan to practice the types of

    problems you got wrong in the Quiz before you take the Module Test.

    For the Module Test: Must complete homework, the Module Workbook and Module Review Quiz

    before taking the Module Test. Must be done during your regularly scheduled class. (Not during lab.) Need password

    If you get 75% or better, you are done with the module. If you get less than 75%, you MUST complete the Required Re-test Review

    homework with 90% or better before you can take the second attempt of the test. All work must be done neatly in a blue book and turned in to the instructor.

    If you want to review the test, speak with the instructor.

    Clicking Take the OptionalPretest, Take the ReviewQuiz and Take the ModuleTest will access the tests andquizzes.

    That link will open up a newwindow with a link to the testsand quizzes.

    Click the link for the test or quizyou want to take.

    The tests must be completed inone sitting.

    Speak to the instructor beforetaking a test.

    There is a password for eachtest that the instructor will enter.

    (No password is needed for theModule Review Quiz.)

    The test screen is very similar tothe homework screen. Youenter answers the same way

    and you navigate from problemto problem the same way.

    All problems and work should beentered neatly in a blue book.

    Dont press submit until youhave finished the test.

    If you arent sure what to do for aparticular problem when you aretaking a test, write it down inyour blue book and make a noteto yourself to go back to thatproblem before submitting thetest.
