Summary (ADIZ/TFR Musts)1. Always file ADIZ Flight plan with FSS or DUATS and get

FSS Standard Briefing on NOTAMs, Weather, latest TFRs

    2. Always squawk discrete code while within the ADIZ

    3. Always land as soon as practicable upon loss of radio ortransponder within the ADIZ (and contact ATC upon landing)

    4. Always remain clear of the ADIZ unless:a) Squawking ATC-assigned discrete transponder code

    b) ATC has observed your discrete transponder code on radar

    5. Always remain clear of the FRZ, class B/D airspace, restrictedairspace unless given POTOMAC ATC clearance

    6. Always monitor appropriate POTOMAC ATC frequency whilewithin ADIZ

    7. Always, if practicable, monitor 121.5 MHz (Guard frequency)while in the ADIZ

Summary (ADIZ/TFR Gotchas)1. Initial call-up use tail number only ATC cant give you ADIZ service

unless they know your tail number !!!!

    2. Since ADIZ/TFR temporary each controller may handle ADIZ traffic

    slightly Differently (Phraseology, Procedures)

    3. You will NEVER get an ADIZ clearance ATC notifies you that yourtransponder is observed and you may proceed !!!!

    4. While in the ADIZ you are NOT given RADAR services unless you aregiven a Class B/D clearance or on IFR flight plan (keep your head on aswivel !!!!)

    5. Communicate briefly and succintly. ATC will not tolerate lengthy or ILL-focused communications !!!!

    6. Listen up. ATC will not tolerate having to make two and three radio calls toan aircraft !!!!

    7. Keep your discrete code to the ground. squawking 1200 for as little as ten

seconds while in ADIZ/TFR airspace will result in an FAA violation !!!!8. Never squawk 1200 in ADIZ !!!!

    9. IAS < 180 Kts when < 30 DCA VOR/DME, IAS < 230 Kts when between 30and 60 DCA VOR/DME
