“….Hong YuanMiddle school
students were good
in many senseswhich are deserving
of our respect and
emulation. They cheered whenever their team mates were competing. They did their best
in everything that they do and dared to accept challenges. It really made me think of myown behaviour.”

“I participated in 2 running eventsand 1 pull up event. I am very
happy that I managed to help my
buddy class win 2 team events(4x100m relay and team pull up). I
only managed a third in the
individual 1.5 km run. I wasdisappointed as I could have won
the event if not for the banging
incident at the end of the race. But
after Mr Lau explained to me that‘we are not here to win races but to
win friendships’, I felt better.”
“I participated in an 800m race. While running halfway, I felt cold and had difficultybreathing. I started to vomit and gave up running. My buddy and her classmates were
super concerned about me. I was touched by their consolation and words of
encouragement.”

This Chinese girl student is able to speak fluent English … even better than our students.
She told me that to improve her English she joined a charity club which has a lot of English speaking foreigners. I am impressed.
Mr Lau sharing a candid moment with 3
Chinese girl students on the design of hand phone. They are very curious about
Singapore and subjects taught in our
school. The students here are not shy to
strike a conversation with a foreigner.
“Towards the end of the sports day, the school organised a friendly telematch between us
and our buddies. In the end, we lost 1-2 to them. Although they won, they encouraged usand gave us a pat on our back for putting up a good fight. I really had lots and lots of fun
with them. I can’t bear to leave Nanjing!”

Daily End of Day Reflection and briefing
The end of day reflection was conducted daily at the school conference just before dinner.
Every one had to share our thoughts or reflection for the day in one sentence (in Chinese
or English). Administrative instructions for the next day events were also discussedduring this meeting.
