Day 5: School Assembly & Official Welcome Ceremony

Our first lesson was Tai Ji. We weretaught by the PE teacher. We addressed
him as Coach Liu. He was very friendly
taught us the basic steps of Tai Ji whichwere not too difficult to learn.
Thanks to the coach excellent teachingskill, we were beginning to look like
Tai Ji experts after only 20 minutes
of lesson. Ha Ha Ha !
School Mass Exercise
The school conducts mass exercise twice daily.
One each in the morning and afternoon. The
entire mass exercise session lasted for about15 minutes. It was amazing to see the entire
school population ran out of their classrooms
in an orderly fashion, assembled at the field,
carried out the mass exercise (stretching &
skipping) and returned to the classroomswithout a single teacher shouting or
instruction. The entire operation is
executed flawlessly using only music.Quite fascinating to watch!

Day 5 & 6: Classroom Immersion
The students welcomed us to their class by
drawing Lyo and Merly (Singapore YOGmascots) on the blackboard. The whole
class clapped when I walked into theclassroom. I felt very touched by theirwarm and sincerity.

Here, the teacher still uses chalk and blackboard to conduct lessons.
The students have the courage tolead in front of the whole class. The
teacher will just stand at the corner
and watch the students lead the classas if they are the teacher. The only
time when the teacher has to step in
is when they encountered problem.This is a good learning experience
for me.
When a teacher asked a question,almost all students will raise their
hands to seize the opportunity to
answer. They are not afraid if theiranswer is wrong. This is quite
different in Singapore where most ofus are quite shy or afraid to answer
the question wrongly.

The topic was on future of education. Mr Lau was invited by the teacher to give an
impromptu talk on Design and technology to a graduating class he was observing. Asnd English very well, Mdm Huang acted as his interpreter.
We visited Nan Hu Middle School as
part of our learning journey. Theprincipal gave us a very warm
welcome.

The presentation items consisted of poetry
recital, playing of some Chinese traditional
toy, skit, songs etc. According to theteachers, all the items were planned and put
together by the students. It was a wonderfulshow.
We were asked to put up a
performance item at the last minute.
Luckily, our group was able to do ayou are very very good cheer
which we learned from Sec 2 camp.

We visited Nanjing Jianye Senior High School thenext day. It is one of the top JC (4 stars) in Nanjing.

Form Class Forum at Hong Yuan Middle School
The Form Teacher period is conductedbi-monthly. This period is given to theForm Teacher for class interaction,
administration, briefing of important
events, discipline matter etc.
Group poetry recital is a common performance item.
On alternate weeks, the Form Teacherperiod will be used to conduct Form Class
Forum. During the forum, the class will
stage a mini class concert to showcase the
talents of the students in the class. Its mainobjective is to build class team spirit and
also to boost morale and confidence level of
students. Based on the theme given,Students are allowed to showcase their
talents in whatever areas they chose. Theforum is totally planned and organised by
the class with facilitation by the Form
Teacher.
