The flight departure time was 1705hrs but we were instructed to report at the airport by 1430 hrs. Some of the students came very early with their parents to the airport. Some parents looked worried as they wondered whether we would be able to “manage” on our own for 10 days overseas. Fortunately, Mr Lau and Mdm Huang were there to assure them that we were in good hands and this would be good learning opportunity for us to be independent. This is Mr Lau’s youngest son. He was there too to send off his father for the Nanjing trip.

Arrival : Nanjing JiaYi Hotel

After 5 hours of flight, we finally landed at Nanjing International airport at 2215 hrs. The

flight took half an hour longer than scheduled due to the head wind. The school VP, anAdmin staff and a tour guide were at the airport to welcome us. Upon stepping out of the

airport, the first impression that struck us was the cool breeze and nice weather. Thetemperature was comfortable 18-19 degrees Celsius. After loading up our luggage, wewere transported in a bus to JiaYi Hotel.

This hotel would be our “home” for the next

10 days.

Time for a quick group photo at the

hotel front desk before retiring to our

assigned room.

We were paired “two to a room.”

The room was cosy and

comfortable and the

bathroom was dry and clean.

For some reasons, one of the girl

pairs refused to sleep in theirassigned room which was facing

the stairway. In the end, Mr Lauhas no choice but to switch roomwith them.

One of our students, Nicky’s roomtoilet was found to be choked. Mr

Lau asked him to practise his“mandarin” by talking to the frontdesk to get maintenance personnel to

fix the blockage. The maintenance

personnel arrived after a while and

the choke was cleared fairly quickly. We are now more confident in

ourselves in communicating in

mandarin. Ha ha ha!
