    12 EOC assessments

    STAAR Modified

    Performance Labels

Will be significantly more rigorous than TAKS; greateremphasis on alignment to college and career readiness

Will measure student performance and academic growth

Grade 3-8 STAAR tests in Reading and Math will be linked(from grade to grade) to performance expectations for EnglishII STAAR and Algebra II STAAR

The STAAR will continue to assess the statewide contentstandards, the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS).

The STAAR is designed to prepare students to succeed incollege and careers and to compete globally.

High School - STAAR Graduation Requirements Min. Grad. Plan

    - The cumulative score is based on the number of courses taken for

    which an EOC exsist.

    - The cumulative score requirement may vary by subject area

    - IPC can be one of the science credits for the minimum plan..there is

    no EOC assessment

Graduation Requirements Recommended Graduation Plan- Student must meet cumulative score (CS) requirement in each

of the four content areas AND

    - must meet Satisfactory Performance (SP)

on ELA III and Algebra I Graduation Requirements Distinguished Achievement Plan

-Student must meet cumulative score (CS) requirement AND

-Student must meet Satisfactory Performance (SP

    Levels

There will be two cut scores that will identify three performance

    categories:

    Level III Advanced Academic Performance

    Level II Satisfactory Academic Performance

    Level I Unsatisfactory Academic Performance

For the alternate assessment the performance labels are:Level III Accomplished Academic Performance

    Level II Satisfactory Academic Performance

    Level I Unsatisfactory Academic Performance

Algebra II, chemistry, and physics will not be assessed

    STAAR Modified.

    What do levels mean?

    Level I-Minimum score is unsatisfacory.

Level II-Minimum score is satisfactory for

    2012-2013.

Each year it will phase in to a higher standard.

    STAAR Key Concepts and Terminology

    Fewer, clearer, deeper

Fewer standards being tested more deeply

Emphasis on applying new learning in multiple ways

rather than teaching breadth of information Reporting categories (new terminology) what we now

    call test objectives

Comparison of Readiness and Supporting Standards cont.

    Subject-specific characteristics

For Reading, Writing, and Eng. Lang.

    Arts:

focus on specific reading genres (fiction

and expository) and on writing for

    particular purposes

    For Mathematics:

    emphasize the integration and

    application of math skillsFor Science:

    emphasize the integration and

    application of major scientific concepts

    For Social Studies:

emphasize landmark historical eventsand foundational geographic concepts

    emphasize unifying historical and

    geographical themes

For Reading, Writing, and Eng. Lang. Arts

may apply to other reading genres

    (poetry, drama, literary nonfiction, and

    persuasive)

    For Mathematics:

focus on skills that underlie more

    significant math concepts

For Sciencefocus on content that supports

    fundamental scientific principles

    For Social Studies

focus on discrete historical facts, events

or individual people, as well as moredetail-oriented geographical facts and

    concepts

    A student scores

    a) 1100 on Algebra I

    b) 1000 on Geometry

    c) 800 on Algebra II

The students cumulative score is 2900 and doesnot equal the 3000 cumulative requirement

800 does not meet the minimum scorerequirement of 900 and therefore cannot be usedtowards the cumulative score

Scores on high school STAAR assessments will count as 15% of a

    students grade in a course.

If a student takes STAAR M in Bio and Geom that they are not

responsible for Chem or ALG II.

    # of STAAR EOCs taken by the student in that subject area

applicable level-satisfactory performance standard in that subject

    area.

If a student attempts and does not pass a regular STAAR

and the ARD committee proposes STAAR M for the next

year, the student does not have to retest for the STAAR.

    AYP: Transition Plan

Considerations for AYP in 2012 and beyond In 2012, STAAR Modified Assessments will

-Fulfill student test requirements for AYP

-Be used for standard setting-Late report (Fall) to districts after summer

    standard setting

    What does this mean?

STAAR M students will graduate with a

    minimum plan

STAAR student does not acquire the

accumulative score as determined by the

state, the student will graduate on minimum

    plan.
