Een rijke geschiedenisA rich historyUne riche traditionWe schrijven 1929. Raymond Van Marcke opentin Kortrijk een groothandel in sanitaire en verwar-mingstoestellen. Het is onmiddellijk een grootsucces. Van Marcke groeit in enkele jaren uit totBelgische marktleider op het gebied van sanitair.

Amper 10 jaar na de oprichting besluit de zaakvoerdernieuwe activiteiten te ontplooien. Hij legt zich ondermeer toe op metaalbewerking en de productie vankantoormeubilair. De oorlog dwarsboomt tijdelijkzijn plannen, maar in 1948 is Mewaf (metaalwaren-fabriek) een feit.

Naast de overheid, scholen en legerbasissen doenook al snel particuliere klanten, kmo’s en onder-nemingen een beroep op Mewaf voor de inrichtingvan hun kantoren.

In de jaren ‘50 zorgt zoon Carl Van Marcke voor eenvernieuwend elan. Hij ontwerpt als eerste Europeseproducent een meubelsysteem dat bureau, kast enscheidingswand integreert. Tegen het einde van dejaren ‘50 heeft Mewaf zich stevig gevestigd alsBelgische marktleider. Via overnames neemt deonderneming ondertussen een vaste plaats in binnende Europese top 10 voor kantoormeubilair.

It’s 1929 and Raymond Van Marcke is setting up a wholesale businessin sanitary equipment and heating appliances in Kortrijk. It’s a successfrom day one. In a matter of years,Van Marcke becomes the marketleader in Belgium with a 40% market share.

Less than 10 years after the foundation of the company, the companypresident decides to venture into new areas. One of these is metalprocessing and the production of office furniture. The second worldwar temporarily puts a stop to these plans, but in 1948 Mewaf (metaalwaren fabriek or metalware factory) becomes a reality.

Alongside the Belgian government, schools and the defence ministry,many SME’s and businesses as well as private individuals choose Mewafas their supplier for office furniture.

In the 50’s, Raymond Van Marcke’s son, Carl, injects new life into thecompany. He is the first in Europe to develop and produce a flexiblefurniture entity integrating desk, cabinet and screen.The modular officesystem is born. Towards the end of the 50’s Mewaf is the marketleader in Belgium.With the help of acquisitions the company ranks inthe top ten of Europe’s office furniture manufacturers.

L’histoire débute en 1929. Raymond Van Marcke ouvre un commercede gros spécialisé en équipements sanitaires et de chauffage àCourtrai. Le succès est immédiat. L’entreprise prend de l’expansion etVan Marcke devient leader du secteur sanitaire belge en quelquesannées, s’arrogeant 40% du marché.

Dix ans plus tard, le fondateur décide de diversifier ses activités. Il setourne alors vers la métallurgie et la production de mobilier debureau. La guerre contrecarre ses projets pendant un moment, maisMewaf (metaal waren fabriek) voit le jour en 1948.

L’État, des écoles, le Ministère de la Défense, mais également des particu-liers, des petites et moyennes entreprises ou de grandes sociétés fontrégulièrement appel à Mewaf pour l’aménagement de leurs bureaux.

Dans les années 1950, le fils du fondateur – Carl Van Marcke – donne unnouvel élan à l’entreprise. Il est en effet le premier fabricant européen àproposer un système de mobilier modulaire intégrant bureau, armoire etcloison.À la fin des années 1950,Mewaf est à la tête du marché belge.Parle biais de divers rachats, la société parvient à conquérir une place dansle top 10 européen des fabricants de mobilier de bureau.

Van meet af aan stelde Mewaf zich op alspionier en vernieuwer in het domein van dekantoorinrichting. Na het eerste Europesegeïntegreerde meubelsysteem zouden ernog tal van primeurs volgen. Zo is ook hetconcept van de eerste roldeurkast eenvrucht van de samenwerking tussen Mewafen diens zusterbedrijf Marcadet.

De onafgebroken herinvestering in mensenen machines vormt de rode draad door-heen Mewafs bedrijfsbeleid. Zo bouwde defirma aan een solide reputatie als leveranciervan een ongeëvenaarde kwaliteit.

Mewaf s’est d’emblée imposée comme uneentreprise pionnière et novatrice dans le secteurde l’aménagement de bureaux. Nombre deprimeurs ont ainsi succédé au premier systèmeintégré européen évoqué précédemment,baptisé « MOS » (modular office system).L’armoire à volets est aussi une invention con-jointe de Mewaf et de Marcadet,sa société soeur.

Mewaf mène par ailleurs une politique de réin-vestissement continu des bénéfices, axée sur lecapital humain et les équipements. Elle s’estainsi forgé une réputation enviable de fournis-seur offrant des produits d’une qualité inégalée.

Lots of inventions would follow in thefootsteps of the first integrated modularoffice system.The concept of the sliding doorcupboard is also one of the inventions thatevolved from the collaboration with Mewaf’ssister company Marcadet.

De verdeling van binnen- en buitenlandse topmerken vertegenwoor-digt slechts 20% van de omzet van Mewaf. 80% van de geleverdeoplossingen wordt immers volledig in de fabrieken in België, Frankrijkof Malta geproduceerd. Het volledige productieproces, gaande van debehandeling van de staalcoils over de levering en montage van heteindproduct bij de eindklant, tot de nazorg, is in eigen handen.

The distribution of national and foreign top brands represents just 20%of the company’s turnover. 80% of the furniture solutions are made intheir entirety in one of the several production plants in Belgium,France or Malta.The complete production process is integrated, fromtreatment of the steel coils, through delivery and assembly of thefinished products at the customer end, to the after-sales service.

La vente de produits de grandes marques belges et étrangères repré-sente seulement 20% du chiffre d’affaires. Le reste de la production,soit 80%, est assuré dans nos propres usines en Belgique, en France ouà Malte. Nous gérons donc l’ensemble du processus de fabrication, del’arrivée des bobines d’acier au service après-vente, en passant par lalivraison et le montage du produit chez le client final.

Van Marcke is een uitgesproken familie-bedrijf. Ook vandaag nog wordt de groepgeleid door Carl Van Marcke en dienszoon en dochter.
