Arab media sources are claiming that the Israeli military

are using a new espionage device hot air balloons

fitted with camera equipment, and a self-destructing

mechanism. They are said to have been spotted floating

over four different Lebanese locations. A military expert

told the London-based Arabic daily, al-Sharq al-Awsat, that

shooting at the balloons could risk revealing the location

of weapons. You dont say. (Ynet)

A group of horticulturists and farmers from Himachal

Pradesh, a state in Northern India, will undergo a one-

week advance training course in farming and cultivation

technique in Israel in September. The group will visit Israel

next month and will be trained by experts , Chief Minister

Prem Kumar Dhumal said after a meeting with Avri Bar

Zur, Counsellor in the Embassy of Israel in New Delhi.

The Chief Minister had already led a high-level delegation

to Israel last year, to gather first-hand knowledge about

Israeli farming techniques, and to examine the feasibility

of adopting these procedures in Himachal Pradesh.

Professor Leon Blaustein, an ecologist at the University

of Haifa, and his team have found that an small predator

insect known as a backswimmer releases a "scent" that

repels mosquitoes although it cannot be picked up by the

human nose. These insects prey on the larvae of the biting

mosquitoes, and so, in a show of maternal protectiveness,

the female biters have developed a tendency to avoid

areas where they detect chemicals given off by the

backswimmers. Professor Blaustein is planning to developthis scent into a mosquito repellant for human use.

Hopefully, only small amounts of repellents could keep

mosquitoes at bay. He also suggests that applying the

scent to places where mosquitoes breed could help with

    controlling the summertime pest. (Telegraph)

How comforting: The White House has told Israel that it

will take about a year for Iran to develop nuclear weapons.

A year is a very long period of time, said Mr Gary Samore,

President Obamas top advisor on nuclear issues. No, it

    isnt, Mr Samore! (Telegraph)

There isnt one: The Scotsmans headline announced

that hopes were fading for seven babies burned in Israeli

hospital fire, and an article followed describing the effortsof an Israeli team of doctors to save babies burned in a

hospital fire in Rumania. Someone, somewhere, got a little

too used to painting Israelis as the devil incarnate! The

Scotsman changed the headline after being contacted

by Honest Reporting, a website that monitors media bias

    against Israel. (Honest Reporting)

A US Israeli group has said they will begin drilling for

gas at a new site off the Mediterranean coast in October.

There is a possibility of reaching oil under the gas. The

drilling is expected to last for five months, and will be the

deepest ever in Israeli waters. (Reuters)

Andrew Lansley, the Health Secretary, inadvertently

let slip that NHS Direct will be axed, and replaced by a

new helpline, which will be manned by non-medically

qualified call centre workers, who will have as little as 60

hours training. The Department of Health has confirmedthat NHS 111 will replace NHS Direct within three years.

Only 9.4 percent of all babies born in one London NHS

Trust were born to a white British mother. By contrast,

in Devon, the figure was 97.4 percent! Countrywide, on

average 6 out 10 mothers described themselves as white

    British. (Daily Mail)

A new poll by travel research group Skyscanner has

revealed that 59% of travellers like the idea of a family

only section on flights. The research was prompted by

the recent case of a woman claiming compensation

from Qantas because she said a babys screaming made

her ears bleed. 70% of respondents said they wanted

to be seated as far away as possible from children, and

only 8% said people should sit where they liked. Almost

a quarter of non-parents went a step further, saying

they wanted child-free flights. Some helpful suggestions

put forward by the people questioned by Skyscanner

included an in-flight nursery, only allowing well behaved

children to travel, and, saving the best for last, keeping

    children in the hold. (Skyscanner)

Hasina Patel, widow of Mohammad Siddique Khan has

lost her battle in the High Court for Legal Aid funding

to represent her at an inquest into the deaths of the

52 victims of the 7/7 bombings. Patel was seeking

the opportunity to question witnesses at the inquest

regarding her late husbands motives for the attack. Patel

herself has flatly refused to provide any information thatmight assist the wider public interest. (The Guardian)

A bank robber in Winchester, Hants, threw approximately

1,600 into the air as he fled the scene. Passers-by

scrabbled to collect the money outside Barclays Bank at

10.20 on Tuesday morning. So far, 300 of the loot has

been handed into the police by honest citizens.

which already has 250 stores across Britain, is planning

to open a store every week for the next year. Last week,

it announced an 80pc increase in profits, with shoppers

from the middle classes discovering the bargains

available there. Branded toiletries and various foodstuffs

are all available for a set price of 1. But remember,

unbranded supermarket brands are often cheaper still.

If you feel that shopping at there might be beneath

you, dont forget that the one price fits all strategy has

a noble history. In 1884, Michael Marks set up his stall,

Penny Bazaar. He posted a sign proclaiming "Don't ask

    the price. It's a penny."
