Second Reading – Romans 6:3-4, 8-11

Brothers and sisters: Are you unaware that we who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were indeed buried with him through baptism into death, so that, just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might live in newness of life. If, then, we have died with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him. We know that Christ, raised from the dead, dies no more; death no longer has power over him. As to his death, he died to sin once and for all; as to his life, he lives for God. Consequently, you too must think of yourselves as dead to sin and living for God in Christ Jesus.

Here I Am, Lord Dan Schutte

1. I, the Lord of sea and sky, I have heard my people cry. All who dwell in dark and sin My hand will save. I, who made the stars of night, I will make their darkness bright. Who will bear my light to them? Whom shall I send?

Refrain Here I am, Lord. Is it I, Lord? I have heard you calling in the night. I will go, Lord, if you lead me. I will hold your people in my heart.

2. I, the Lord of snow and rain, I have borne my people’s pain. I have wept for love of them. They turn away. I will break their hearts of stone, Give them hearts for love alone. I will speak my word to them. Whom shall I send?

3. I, the Lord of wind and flame, I will tend the poor and lame. I will set a feast for them. My hand will save. Finest bread I will provide Till their hearts be satisfied. I will give my life to them. Whom shall I send?

Text: Based on Isaiah 6. Text and music © 1981, OCP. All rights reserved. Gospel – Matthew 10:37-42

Jesus said to his apostles: “Whoever loves father or mother more than me is not worthy of me, and whoever loves son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me; and whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me. Whoever finds his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. "Whoever receives you receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me. Whoever receives a prophet because he is a prophet will receive a prophet’s reward, and whoever receives a righteous man because he is a righteous man will receive a righteous man’s reward. And whoever gives only a cup of cold water to one of these little ones to drink because the little one is a disciple— amen, I say to you, he will surely not lose his reward.”

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time

First Reading – 2 Kings 4:8-11, 14-16A

One day Elisha came to Shunem,

where there was a woman of influence, who urged him to dine

with her.

Afterward, whenever he passed by, he used to stop there to dine.

So she said to her husband, “I know that Elisha is a holy man of God.

Since he visits us often, let us arrange a little room on the roof

and furnish it for him with a bed, table, chair, and lamp,

so that when he comes to us he can stay there.”

Sometime later Elisha arrived and stayed in the room overnight.

Later Elisha asked, “Can something be done for her?”

His servant Gehazi answered, “Yes!

She has no son, and her husband is getting on in years.”

Elisha said, “Call her.”

When the woman had been called and stood at the door,

Elisha promised, “This time next year

you will be fondling a baby son.”

Responsorial Psalm Psalms 89:2-3, 16-17, 18-19

R. (2a) For ever I will sing the goodness of the Lord.

Keep in Mind

Keep in mind that Jesus Christ has died for us and is risen from the dead. He is our saving Lord, he is joy for all ages.

1. If we die with the Lord, we shall live with the Lord. If we endure with the Lord, we shall reign with the Lord.

2. In Christ all our sorrow, in Christ all our joy. In him hope of glory, in him all our love. 3. In Christ our redemption, in Christ all our grace, In him our salvation, in him all our peace. Text: 2 Timothy 2:8-12, Lucien Deiss, CSSp, 1921-2007 Tune: Lucien Deiss, CSSp, 1921-2007 © 1965, World Library Publications

Taste and See

Taste and see, taste and see the goodness of the Lord. O taste and see, taste and see the goodness of the Lord, of the Lord. 1. I will bless the Lord at all times. Praise shall always be on my lips; my soul shall glory in the Lord for God has been so good to me. 2. Glorify the Lord with me. Together let us all praise God's name. I called the Lord who answered me; from all my troubles I was set free. 3. Worship the Lord, all you people. You'll want for nothing if you ask. Taste and see that the Lord is good; in God we need put all our trust. Text: Psalm 34; James E. Moore, Jr., b.1951, © 1983, GIA Publications, Inc.

2nd Communion Hymn, if needed

The Church’s One Foundation

1. The Church's one foundation Is Jesus Christ, her Lord; She is his new creation By water and the Word; From heav'n he came and sought her To be his holy bride; With his own blood he bought her, And for her life he died.

2. Elect from ev'ry nation, Yet one o'er all the earth; Her charter of salvation: One Lord, one faith, one birth. One holy name she blesses, Partakes one holy food, And to one hope she presses, With ev'ry grace endued.

3. Through toil and tribulation And tumult of her war She waits the consummation Of peace forevermore Till with the vision glorious Her longing eyes are blessed, And the great Church victorious Shall be the Church at rest.

4. Yet she on earth has union With God, the Three in One, And mystic sweet communion With those whose rest is won. O blessed heav'nly chorus! Lord, save us by your grace That we, like saints before us, May see you face to face.

Text: Samuel J. Stone, 1839-1900, alt.

STEWARDSHIP: A WAY OF LIFE

“…whoever does not take up his cross and follow after me is not worthy of me.” (Matthew 10:38)

Pope Benedict XVI said, “The world offers you comfort. But you were not made for comfort, you were made for great-ness.” “Comfort” puts me first. “Picking up your cross and following Jesus” puts God and others first. Why settle for comfort when you can achieve greatness! Pick up your cross, ask Jesus for guidance on using your gifts and live the life God intend-ed for you!

Please mark your calendar for the next Blood
