The Cycloid and PrimoGraf drawing machines.Way before there were plastic drawing toys like the

Spirograph® there were wood and metal drawing ma-chines. Some were elegant harmonographs from the 1880s. Others were simple wooden epicycloid toys like The Marvelous Wondergraph from 1906. While the har-monographs were infinitely adjustable, all the cycloid toys were simple and limited. The resolved to correct this oversight by the long gone inventors. The Cycloid Drawing Machine has infinite adjustments to allow for a fulcrum that rotates and moves. The Cycloid Drawing Machine allows for massively complex artwork. By allowing the fulcrum point to move and having a huge number of in-terchangeable gears thedrawing machine is more like an engine turning lathe.

No motors or electricity require. Just crank it by hand. There are lots and lots of gears. They are held in place by brass screws and brass knurled nuts. You operate the

THE LAKEI USE PHOTOGRAPHY AS A JOURNEY, AN EXPLORATION, AND A VISU-AL PERCEPTION. BUT ABOVE ALL, THROUGH THE LENS, I MAKE AN EMOTIONAL CONNECTION WITH NATURE, PEOPLE, MY SURROUND-INGS, AND EVEN INANIMATE ‘THINGS’.

My choice of subject is intuitive and often impulsive. When my mind is open I can see beauty in the mundane, the uncommon in the com-mon, and the extraordinary in the ordinary,

I try to take photographs that call attention to things that other peo-ple overlook; my goal is to share my ‘eye’ and to show how everything we take for granted can actually become exceptional, which elevates the spirit, emotion, and thought.

Since 2007, Lee JeeYoung shoots the inv is ible. Whereas tradi t ional photography submits ex trac ts of real i t y to our eyes , the ar t is t of fers excerpts f rom her hear t , her memor y, or her dreams. Res trained by the inherent l imi t s of the convent ional photographic medium, she adds plas t ic creat i v i t y and theatr ical per formance to i t , in order to blow l i fe into her immense needs of expression, and interrogat ion.For week s , somet imes months , she creates the fabr ic of a universe born f rom her mind wi thin the conf ines of her 3 x 6 m s tudio. She does so wi th inf ini te minut iae and ex traordinar y pat ience, in order to exclude any ul ter ior photographic al terat ion. Thus mater ial ised,

these wor lds turn real and concret ise : imaginat ion rever ts to the tangible and the photo imager y of such f ic t ion tes t i f y as to their real i t y. In the mids t of each of these sets s tands the ar t is t : those sel f-por trai t s however are never f rontal , s ince i t is never her v isual aspec t she shows, but rather her ques t for an ident i t y, her desires and her f rame of mind. Her creat ions ac t as a catharsis which al lows her to accept social repression and frus trat ions. The moment re-quired to set the s tage g ives her t ime to medi tate about the causes of her inter ior conf l ic t s and hence exorcise them; once exper ienced, they in turn become por tents of hope.

The chair incorporates design elements similar to the fantastic Eames designed Aluminum group chairs. Functional fea-tures abound—like rolling caster wheels, a hydraulic height adjustment, ergonomic seat and even the ability to recline.

The limited edition series of chairs features a wide range of colors, with a variety of trim options for everything a racing stripe to a minimalist finish.

ANIXIETY

Photographer Katie Joy Crawford has battled anxiety her entire life, and she is well aware of the way it manipulates her, and how she can manipulate it. This constant struggle, between her mind and body, inner world and outer world, is her biggest frustration—but one that she turned into inspiration. In her My Anxious Heart photo series, Crawford explores her relationship with anxiety through a series of self-portraits.

hrough this body of work, I am visually interpreting my own emotional and physical journey so that others may be able to understand this weight that so many bear in our society. The physical ramifications of the disorder, such as a racing heart, dizziness, shortness of breath and lightheadedness, frequently go unnoticed or are misinterpreted by those who have never suffered from anxiety.

Although the physical symptoms make up a great deal of the disorder, the emo-tional outcome is exceedingly difficult to encapsulate as well. Anxiety bars the suf-ferer from the risk of discovery, the desire to explore new ideas, and the possibility of exiting a comfort zone. It makes sure that it will never be alone. It finds you when you’re in the midst of joy, or alone in your own mind. It is quiet and steady, remind-ing you of your past failures, and fabricating your future outcomes.
