My Bachelor Thesis ‘’ A Journey of the Senses’’ is a thematic route with the theme ‘’Body’’. The goal of the project was to give the Campi Flegrei region and its existing features an extra dimension. In order to create the extra dimension, I designed a conceptual masterplan.
Campi Flegrei ‘’A Journey of the Senses’’ uses the ve human senses to make a total body experience and adds a new dimension to explore the qualities of the Campi Flegrei region.
‘’ Since the ancient times the Genius Loci, or ‘spirit of the place’ known as a the reality where we all have deal with in our existence’’(Christian Norberg-Schultz 1926-2000 ‘Genius Loci: Towards a Phenomenology of Architecture 1980)
My project is designed in accordance with the Genius Loci principle of the location. The quality of the place is always respected and the design will help to strengthen it. The design interprets the feeling I have in the area and respectfully intervere with its surrounding.
Cuma is the location of the sense ‘’Sight’’ and the startpoint of my thematic route.
Cuma is an old Roman city; in Virgil’s myth ‘’ Aeneid’’ it is the place that Aneas, founding father of Rome, visits to talk with the Sybil, the seer of Cuma.
views from its temples over the Campi Flegrei region.
I designed a visiual connection which connects the temple of Apollo with the
the route. The sense ‘’Sight’’ connects the two parts of the route.

In my vision of the ‘’Genius Loci’’ I designed a connection between Cuma and the Lago d’Avero by using its existing qualities.
In my designs, local materials are used which blend in with the ‘’Genius Loci’’
heights that show the quality for that place at best or in a new perspective.

The typical shape of the cave of Sibyl (as seen below) is found at a lot of places in the Campi Flegrei region and in the city of Napoli. In Virgil’s myth ‘’The Aeneid’’, Aneas visits the Underworld under the Lago d’Averno together with the Sibyl. In my design of the bath house I used the shape of the cave of Sybil in various aspects to refer to the myth.
The shape holds a perspective illusion as it is made spatial. That perspective illusion I used in the oorplan of the bath house and for the multiple sections of its baths.

Solfatara crater - a park inspired by bradisism | park artist impressions 1-4| | 5: hidden quality section
The fourth sense on the journey is the hearing sense. The Solfatara is a unique experience for all the senses due to its exhilarating natural phenomena. You can see the incredible landscape, feel the warmth of the vulcano, taste the sulfer in your mouth, smell the overwelming scent of sulfer and hear the hissing sound of vulcanic geysers.
I got inspired by the hills; formed by the bradisism in the Solfatara crater, they conseal the sound of its active geysers. Due to all the things to see these hills are a hidden quality located at North-East part of the crater. I Designed a park in- spired by these hills; ‘The Solfatara Hillpark’.
Hillpark: Add mass Existing quality: Leave mass intact
The Solfatara Hillpark leads toward the existing bradisism hills and is placed at the area where the camping of the solfatara was located.
mass. In the park I will Add mass in the form of guiding hills that lead towards an experience of the hear sense.
The bradisism hills are left intact.

Solfatara crater - Mudbaths | Mudbath artist section |
The th sense on the journey is the sense ‘’Smell’’. After the park, the bradisism hills and the old sauna, a big geyser follows. When visitors follow the round shape of the crater the place of the sense smell is reached. I designed several mudbaths in the existing mudpool of the Solfatara. These mudbaths are thermally heated. To create them, the pools are excavated deeper and mass is taken. The shapes of the pools are round like most shapes in the Solfatara crater.

Bachelor project: FREELAND FOR NORDHAVNENyear February - July 2014
place: Nordhavnen, Copenhagen, Denmark
client Saxion University of Applied Sciences Handelskade 75 7417 DH Deventer
project type Bachelor 1st project
My rst Bachelor project ‘’Nordhavnen’’ is an Urban Development located in Copenhagen the Capitol of Denmark.
In 2008 CPH city and port development launched an open international competition concerning Norghavnen, an industrial part of Copenhagen’s Northern harbour district. The Competition Resulted in 3 winning urban designs that were combined to 1 plan. The Inner part of Nordhavnen is completely designed an is being build.
The Assignment is to submit a concept for the urban developmnt of upper Nordhavnen. The plan must t in the overal structure plan of entire Nordhavnen, worked out in a developmetn plan for a part of upper Nordhavnen.
The leading architect told that a dierence in identities is missing in the winning plan.I choose to analyse MVRD’s Freeland and Nordhavnen to nd a solution to combine the qualities of the area with more freedom to generate Identities and communities for Upper Nordhavnen. My project became an research of the possibilty to use a ‘’freetown’’ concept of dierent locations following the steps of its original project. The project resulted in a development plan and a masterclass with Jacob Buitenk-ant(leading player in the freeland project) and various municipalities and architects in the Rondeel architectural centre, Deventer.

Nordhavnen | right page - possible plans | reference; MVRDV’s folie righter Montpelier
The concept for the Nordhavnen project is an adapted ‘freeland’ inspired by my analysis and research of MVRDV’s project Freeland. Its tting to Copenhagen due to its innovative urban identity and the presence of the already existing freetowncalled ‘’Christiania’’
Following the Freeland project I created my own ratio to devide space and keep the quality of the harbor peninsula. These ratio’s are created uppon existing qualities in the area. These 2 areas have a visible dier-nece and their own ratio. These 2 parts will be my project area and will be a development that ts within the orgiginal winning plan for Nordhavnen.
Three maps that show a possible plan following the rules and ratio’s of an urban, standard and natural area. There are various types of buildings possible and a maximum of freedom could generate collaboration between parties.
In order to meet the requirement housing and employment ratio in the area and still keep a maxi-mum of open space, stacking of small seperate designed buildings could result in a interesting mixure and great complex. MVRDV’s Folie Righter plan for Montpelier is a reference I used to show possible building outcomes.

client Rondeel, architecture center Stromarkt 18C, 7411 PK Deventer
project type On demand of client
For three months, various lectures were held at an expostition in the Rondeel. The main goal of the exposition was to generate new visions and to keep developing all districts surrounding the city centre of Deventer.
Multiple architects and students gave their vision on districts located arround the city centre of Deventer. The municipality of Deventer will use the visions in their new development plan.
With a small group of three students we worked on a vision for one of the

project type Erasmus Architecture course: Architectural design IV
Buda’s riverside upgrade is a project I participated in during my Erasmus period in Budapest, Hungary. The main goal was to create a masterplan with a group of students for the project. In the masterplan each team member designed a particular place to improve the urban quality of the public space at the Buda side of Budapest. In my case I redesigned the main Public transport square of the Buda side inspired by the ‘’Denkmal für die ermordeten Juden Europas’’ by Peter Eisenman, located in Berlin. Multiple boxes devide
