The holiday season is a time to get together with family and friends and celebrate and give thanks. Community mem-bers gather at the Union Fire House on Thanksgiving Day. The event is free and everyone is welcome. People will sit together and enjoy each other’s company.

During the month of December there are many ways to spread the holiday cheer. On December 5, traditional carols will be sung in Wiswall Park and on downtown street corners. The annual parade starts at 6:30. The parade ends at Wiswall Park where Santa and Mrs. Claus will light the Christmas tree. Breakfast with Santa is December 6 from 8 to 11 am at St. Mary’s School, 40 Thompson Street, Ballston Spa. Village shops will be decorated for the season. Stop in and visit the unique selection of stores and support our local businesses.

While we enjoy the holiday season it is important to help others. Community Emergency Corps and the Saratoga County Sheriff’s Department will be on Low Street after the parade collecting new unwrapped toys for the Marine Corps Toys for Tots drive. If you are not able to stop by Low Street after the parade you can drop the toys off by December 15 at Commu-nity Emergency Corps, 78 Thompson Street, Ballston Spa. On December 6 from 9 am - 1 pm, Scotties Closet will be open at the Ballston Spa Middle School cafeteria. Scotties Closet is for families in the school district to be able to come in and get "gently used" clothing for children and adults along with books. The clothing and books are donated from community members. It is a special time of the year when we all work together and help each other.

Happy Holidays from all of us at the Ballston Spa Day Hab to all of you and your loved ones.

As has become the tradition each year, The Ballston Spa Ro-tary Club will again be selling its Christmas Trees at the Curtis Lum-ber store on Rt. 67 in Ballston Spa starting on Nov. 26 until they are sold out. Open every day from 10 am-8 pm and on weekends we open at 9 am. This year we will have approxi-mately 800 trees to choose from. All proceeds from our tree sales, as al-ways, go right back to our commu-nity through the support of our pro-jects throughout the year.

We hope you will stop by and make getting your family's tree from Ro-tary a Holiday Tradition.

Thanks to the BSHS Interact Club, the folks from Saratoga Bridges, and the other family and friends of Rotary who helped unload the trees prior to Thanksgiving. We couldn't have done it without them!

Saratoga EOC has arranged an op-portunity to hear from international expert Dr. Ruby Payne, who will be in the area to discuss ways to re-address poverty in Saratoga County and the benefits of collaboration on Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 8:30 am to 11:30 am at Skidmore College’s Gan-nett Auditorium. Dr. Payne will guide a large community conversa-tion with the audience by focusing on questions from the community and highlighting her work “Bridges Out of Poverty: Strategies for Profession-als and Communities.” Seating is limited. The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association (BSBPA) is pleased to announce that the Grand Marshals for its annual Holiday Parade will be representatives from its membership, in keeping with the theme "We Are the BSBPA". The parade will be held Friday evening, December 5 as part of Ballston Spa's Holiday Weekend celebra-tion.

Since 1983, the BSBPA's mission has been to promote Ballston Spa as a great place to live, work and do business. With over 280 members, the BSBPA has played a major role in the village's revitalization over the past decade. "We Are the BSBPA" celebrates the support and dedication to the community shown by BSBPA member busi-nesses, residents and non-profit groups. Grand marshals representing business members are Curtis Lumber and Ballston Spa Veterinary Clinic, which are also two of the parade's sponsors. Non-profit members are represented by Ballston Spa Rotary and Gateway House of Peace and resident members are represented by Rae and David Whitehead, Jodi Almela-Monaco, Cheryl Springer and the Relyea Family. Look for them on the big flatbed truck float, with special thanks to the Chamber of Southern Saratoga County and Curtis Lumber.

Sandwich Boards and the Upcoming Winter WeatherSandwich Boards and the Upcoming Winter WeatherSandwich Boards and the Upcoming Winter WeatherSandwich Boards and the Upcoming Winter Weather

Sandwich boards are a great way to direct customers to your business. Several of our downtown shops and restaurants have these boards on display at corners and on sidewalks. Ideally, the boards should be removed each evening when your business closes and set up the next day. With the winter weather, the Ballston Spa DPW is also asking that businesses bring their signs in when the forecast calls for measur-able snow. The snowplows will often end up burying the boards left on the side-walks and the DPW does not have the manpower to keep digging them out. The buried boards may also cause a hazard to pedestrians and may become damaged, which could bring about the need for replacement (and its cost) to the business. Thank you for your cooperation!

Area Development: In the wake of the Town of Ballston Planning Board’s public hearing on the Wal-Mart development,

which took place on November 20 and was attended by BSBPA board members Bernadette VanDeinse and Stacy Simmons,

the BSBPA board of directors has issued a letter expressing its ongoing concerns with traffic mitigation, which were origi-

nally stated in an earlier letter to the Ballston Town Board in April 2014. It was felt that, after that evening’s presentation,

those concerns continue to not be adequately addressed. The letter was sent to the Planning Board to be included with other questions and concerns of the public to be included in their response to Wal-Mart's engineering team. We will continue to

monitor this and keep you informed. A copy of the letter is available upon request.

New Interim Board Officers: At the November BSBPA board meeting, Stacy Simmons and Catherine Spaneas were elected to

serve interim terms as co-vice presidents for the remainder of the fiscal year. Stacy current chairs the Adopt A Plot commit-tee and is on the marketing committee. Catherine chairs First Fridays and this month’s Breakfast with Santa. Both also con-

tribute many volunteer hours to other committees as well.

Board Member Nominations: The BSBPA Nominating Committee is looking for nominees to serve on the board of directors.

Prospective board members should be business, resident or non-profit members in good standing, have an interest in com-munity volunteerism and be eager to contribute energy and new ideas. If you know of someone or if you yourself are inter-

ested in making a difference in Ballston Spa, please contact any board member or Ellen at [email protected].

Winter Meeting Locations: There is no BSBPA board meeting in December. The January 19 and February 16 board meetings

will be held at the Day Hab office of Saratoga Bridges in the Factory Building. We will have our Annual Meeting in March,

date and location, TBA.

Association NewsAssociation NewsAssociation News The Ballston Spa Business & Professional Association, in partnership with Curtis Lumber, honored business owners, residents, and non-profit organi-zations whose renovation, restoration, and beautification efforts have en-hanced the Ballston Spa community over the past year. The winners were chosen from nominations submitted by others in the community. At a re-ception on November 17at the First Presbyterian Church, each award re-cipient was given a framed certificate along with a Curtis Lumber gift card in recognition of their efforts. The presentations were made by BSBPA board member and Beautification Chairperson Michelle Burlingame, Cur-tis Lumber representative Doug Ford, and Pete Bardunias from the South-ern Saratoga County Chamber of Commerce. The BSBPA would like to thank all of our recipients for their hard work to improve our community, as well as the many community members who submitted nomina-tions. Special appreciation to Curtis Lumber for their generous support

and to Coffee Planet, Zest Catering, Cake Placid, and Burlingame Orthodontics for providing delicious desserts and refreshments for the reception.
