ABOUT THE COLLEGE

Christ Nagar College was established by CMI Fathers, the pioneers in the field of

education and social reforms in the year 2012 at Maranalloor, in Trivandrum

District. Along with imparting knowledge, the students are encouraged to

emulate the principles of austerity, discipline and truthfulness which have been

practised by Saint Chavara Kuriakose Elias. The college maintains high standard

in teaching and training in various fields connected with their curriculum. At

present, the college offers nine undergraduate courses and two postgraduate

courses.

Our institution believes in continuous development of all faculty members. As

part of this a two day hands-on Faculty Development Programme (FDP) is being

organized on the topic 'Exploring Python'. The objective of this FDP is to provide

a deep understanding of Python language, one of the world's most popular

programming language, Python. Python can be found in commercial games,

business software, educational applications, and animation systems. It is also

used in the emerging research areas of AI and Machine Learning. So from a

school student to a data analyst the knowledge of Python is of utmost

importance. It is in keeping this objective in view that this FDP has been

designed to impart the basics and advanced concepts of Python. This

programme will enable the participants to get a theoretical and practical

knowledge on Python which will help the participants to confidently teach or

work in this domain.

PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES

The Department of Computer Applications

offers BCA course under Choice Based

Credit and Semester System (CBCSS) of

Kerala University. The department has

developed a unique culture of learning

process by suitably mixing seminars of expert resource persons from the

industry, study visits to industrial units, personality development programmes

and value education activities along with the regular classes. The department has

two well equipped computer laboratories with over 100 computers. Students are

also given add-on courses to introduce them to current areas other than given in

the syllabus. We have a strong placement cell through which our students are

placed in top IT companies every year.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT

Dr. Jeeva Jose is an academician, software trainer and

author of numerous books. She has authored 11 books

and edited 3 books which were published by International

publishers. Her popular books are "Introduction to

Computing and Problem Solving with Python", "Taming

Python by Programming", "Beginner's Guide for Data

Analysis using R Programming" and "Internet of Things".

These books are the core reference of computer science and application courses

offered by various universities all over India. She is currently an Associate

Professor in the Mahatma Gandhi University. She has completed three research

projects funded by UGC and KSCSTE. Her area of specialization is Web Mining,

Cyber Laws, Python Programming, R Programming and Machine Learning. She is

a recipient of ACM-W Scholarship provided by Association for Computing

Machinery, New York for young women research scholars from developing

countries. She has published more than twenty research papers in various

refereed journals and conference proceedings.
