MANAGER’S NOTES

We face Cannons for the third time this

season and we are looking to make it a

hat-trick of victories over them. It won't be

easy since they have a good team but I'm

quietly confident that we have the right

players and squad to win any game that is

in front of us. We do ask for the crowd’s

continued support especially as we try and

gain the momentum needed to continue

our top of the league challenge. We hope

you have had a fantastic weekend and

thanks once again.

Evening all

So we are pitted against a premier league team, Glacis

Utd, in the final game of the second round of the Rock

Cup. That will be a good test for our team and should

give rise to a bumper crowd. The full draw is on page

23. Keep your eyes on the club’s Facebook page or

Twitter page for announcements in respect of the Club

Chesterton event for this game. Better still, sign up to

receive Magpie News, see the opposite page.

I’d like to thank Sovereign Insurance Services, based in

Ocean Village, for becoming our programme sponsor for the rest of the season.

They provide many Chesterton clients with their property, health and other

insurances. Their advert is on page 6 and 7 and they are based just a few

doors away from Chesterton.

Today is a special day for two special

Chesterton ladies— so happy birthday Nicola

and happy birthday Jessica. Both of them have

said that 3 points would be the best possible

present that they could wish for.

Tonight we should be offered a selection of

home made vanilla chocolate chip cookies.

Lucy was hard at work Sunday. I just hope that

she hasn’t eaten them all before kick-off.

The club has made more player signings. The information was not quite ready

for this programme—sorry!

The next game is not until 11th Feb. If that leaves your week a bit bereft of live

football, then come and watch our reserves on the 2nd and 8th Feb. They too

would welcome your support.

Enjoy the game.

FC Brunos Magpies 0 v 2 Mons Calpe

17th January 2016

Gonzalez brace secures Mons Calpe deserved win

A brace from Alex Gonzalez secured Mons Calpe a well deserved 2-0 win over Bruno’s Magpies which sees them move within two points of top spot.

Mons Calpe nearly took the lead in the first five minutes but a superb piece of goalkeeping from Fernando Sanchez kept out a over-hit back pass from Mario Romero. Seven minutes later the Magpies keeper was called into action again, making a comfortable save to keep out Sergio Vazquez’s shot.

Mons continued to dominate, Ruben Fernandez played the ball to Thomas Carrillo whose shot was excellently saved by Fernando Sanchez. Mons Calpe took the lead less than a minute later, Thomas Carrillo’s shot was blocked, the rebound fell to Alex Gonzalez who slotted his shot into the bottom corner from close range.

With ten minutes remaining Mons Calpe keeper Joe Borg made his first save of the game, keeping out debutant Nick Dembele’s effort. Mons held on for the last few remaining minutes and went into the break leading 1-0.

Mons Calpe continued to dominate the second half and had a great chance to double their lead but some great defending from Tom Hudson prevented Sergio Vazquez from getting his shot away. Mons Calpe doubled their lead in the 75th minute, a low cross from Salvador Vallejo found Alex Gonzalez who drilled his shot past Sanchez.

Magpies had a chance shortly after to pull a goal back but Harry Perry smashed his shot wide from a tight angle. Mons Calpe had a chance to extend their lead just before full-time but Ruben Fernandez’s shot was excellently saved by

Fernando Sanchez. Mons held on and walked away with three important points.

Magpies best moment: Winning our first ever Magpies game in our first season because everyone who started the club was involved so it meant a lot to us and others associated to the club. The hangover the next day showed how much it meant.

Where are you now: So I left Gibraltar and Brunos Magpies in February 2015 to take up a football coaching career in America. It was a successful year and one of the best. Gaining a promotion and building healthy relationships with clubs out there. America is simply bigger and better! I am currently back over this side of the pond due to renewal of my visa and will go back in February. I will be doing 2 coaching courses in Manchester whilst I am back to better myself.

Hopes and dreams in 2016: Carry on working hard in America and bettering myself as a coach. Also, seeing parts of America that I haven't seen yet like the west coast. You never know I could come back to coach Magpies when they get promoted to the Premiership!

Message for the fans: Keep wearing the jerseys and scarves. Spread the word and keep singing them songs as trust me it helps!

Final note: Just want to say to the current crop of Magpies. I coached the boys last week a couple times last week and this is by far the best team we have had in 3 years. So keep working hard, play as a team and don't forget whatever you put in, you get out!

ROCK CUP

THREE ALL PREMIER DIVISION MATCHES PULLED OUT OF THE HAT FOR THE 2ND ROUND

The draw for the Rock Cup 2nd Round brought together 3 all Premier Division sides. Holders Lincoln will have to navigate a tie against FC Britannia. The champions narrowly beat Britannia 3-2 last time out, coming from 2-0 down to win the game. The tie of the round was left until the last 2 sides left in the hat. Two of the current top five in Gibraltar’s top flight, St Josephs and Europa meet. St Joseph’s beat Europa 3-1 two weeks ago to severely dent Europa’s title aspirations, revenge will no doubt be in the back of the minds of Carrasco’s men when they face the Saints. Last season’s beaten finalists Lynx face the other all Premier Division clash against Manchester 62 in what will be another fascinating game. Both clubs will be looking to the Rock Cup for an entry into Europe.

Tricky draws were handed out to Premier Division Lions Gibraltar and Gibraltar Utd as they face Mons Calpe and Red Imps respectively. The two Premier Division’s strugglers will have to be wary of a cup upset, as Glacis and Angels have been handed matches against Bruno’s Magpies and Gib Phoenix respectively. Both 2nd Division high flyers will go out to cause a cup upset in their ties. The draw guarantees there will be at least one 2nd Division club in the quarter finals as promotion hopefuls Leo FC take on a rejuvenated College 1975 side.
