Lezen en spellen in verschillende talen
-
In learning to read, children implicitly learn how theirwriting system encodes their spoken language and thushow they can decode printed words into spoken words toget meaning (Cambridge University Press, 2017).

Noodzaak van directe instructie bij leren lezen
-
Basisprincipes bij leren lezen
• Leren lezen is geen natuurlijk proces (Snowling)• Expliciete phonics instructie is vereist• Focus op de relatie tussen grafische eenheden en spraakklanken
• Self-teaching mechanisme (Share)• Succesvol decoderen leidt tot orthografisch leren• Item-based lexicalisatie processen
• Interactive lexical model (Perfetti)• Precisie: mate van specificatie van representaties• Redundantie: mate van automatisering (sterkte van associaties)

Representation in Congress provides a theory of dyadic policy representation intended to account for when belief sharing, delegate, responsible party, trustee, and “party elite led” models of representational linkage arise on speci!c policy issues. "e book also presents empirical tests of most of the fundamental predictions for when such alternative models appear, and it presents tests of novel implications of the theory about other aspects of legislative behavior. Some of the latter tests resolve contradictory !ndings in the relevant, existing literature – such as whether and how electoral marginality a#ects representation, whether roll call vote extremism a#ects the re-election of incumbents, and what in fact is the representational behavior of switched seat legislators.
“All of the empirical tests provide evidence for the theory. Indeed, the full set of empirical tests provides evidence for the causal e#ects anticipated by the theory and much of the causal process behind those e#ects.”James T. Smith, New York Literary Review

Final conclusion
• Dyslexia across languages is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word decoding and poor spelling. These difficulties
typically result from a deficit in the phonological component of language
that is often unexpected in relation to other cognitive abilities and the
provision of effective classroom instruction. Evidence-based intervention
effects in case the focus is on phonology through reading and spelling.

Identificatie van dyslexie
Verhoeven, L.T.W. & Keuning, J. (2018). The nature of developmental dyslexia in a transparent orthography. Scientific Studies of Reading, 22 (1), 7-23.
-
Het Nederlands schriftsysteem
• Letter-klank relaties uitermate transparant
• Niveaus van orthographisch complexiteit:• MKM (pen, boom, huis)• Consonant clusters (stoel, hond, krant)• Tweelettergrepige woorden (bomen, bommen)• Meerlettergrepige woorden (bommelding, weggeven)
-
Onderzoek: indicatie dyslexie
• Participanten• 500 typische leerlingen in jaargroep 5, 6, 7, 8• 280 dyslectische leerlingen in groep 5, 6, 7, 8
• Design• 4 leeskaarten woorden: MKM, MM, disyll, trisyll• 4 leeskaarten pseudowoorden: MKM, MM, bisyll, trisyll• Fonologische taken:
• Fonologisch bewustzijn: Auditieve analyse + Klankmanipulatie• Rapid naming: plaatjes, cijfers, letters• Pseudowoorden nazeggen

Voorspellers van dyslexie
-

• Drie condities• Rijm: bal-wal• Overlap: bal-bel• Unrelated: bal-vos

-
Implicaties voor de praktijk
• Voorkomen is beter dan genezen• Just in time intervention!
• Dyslexie kan worden geïndiceerd op basis van:• Vaardigheid pseudowoord en woord lezen + fonologische vaardigheden
• Phonics aanpak vergroot accuraatheid decoderen• Met name pseudowoorden
• Gaming aanpak vergroot snelheid decoderen• Zowel woorden als pseudowoorden
