  • DEEL 3: GEOMETRISCH WEGONTWERP In dit derde deel staat het geometrisch ontwerp van de weg centraal: hoe ziet de weg eruit? Het ontwerp van een weg is gericht op de verkeersfuncties en de verkeersveiligheid. Aan de andere kant wordt het ook sterk beïnvloed door het gedrag van de bestuurders. Ook eenvoudige fysica speelt bij het wegontwerp een rol. Het ruimtelijk ontwerp wordt weergegeven in drie projecties op het platte vlak: dwarsdoorsnede, horizontaal en verticaal alignement. Achtereenvolgens komen aan bod:

    • De hoofdprincipes in het ontwerp • Dwarsprofiel • Horizontaal alignement • Verticaal alignement • Knooppunten en kruispunten

    In deze tweede versie is meer het Handboek Wegontwerp gevolgd. Bij Duurzaam Veilig is voor de voornaamste principes een kort voorbeeld toegevoegd. De zichtafstanden zijn bij elkaar gezet en waar relevant is de toelichting iets uitgebreid. In de formules is systematisch onderscheid gemaakt tussen hoeken uitgedrukt in radialen, in procenten of dimensieloos (verhouding). De bijbehorende vergelijkingen zijn daarop aangepast.
