DFRobot FTDI USB to Serial Basic Breakout Board (3.3V/V!

This is a basic breakout board for the FTDI FT232RL USB to serial IC. The pinout of this board

atches the FTDI cable to !ork !ith official "rduino and cloned 3.3# "rduino boards. It can also beused for $eneral serial applications. The a%or difference !ith this board is that it brin$s out the DTR

 pin as opposed to the RTS pin of the FTDI cable. The DTR pin allo!s an "rduino tar$et to auto&reset

!hen a ne! Sketch is do!nloaded. This is a reall' nice feature to ha(e and allo!s a sketch to be

do!nloaded !ithout ha(in$ to hit the reset button. This board !ill auto reset an' "rduino board thathas the reset pin brou$ht out to a )&pin connector.

The pins labeled BL* and +R, correspond to the colored !ires on the FTDI cable. The black !ire on

the FTDI cable is +,D- $reen is DTR. Use these BL* and +R, pins to ali$n the FTDI basic board

!ith 'our "rduino tar$et.

There are pros and cons to the FTDI Cable (s the FTDI Basic. This board has T and R L/Ds that

allo! 'ou to actuall' see serial traffic on the L/Ds to (erif' if the board is !orkin$- but this board

re0uires a iniB cable. The FTDI Cable is !ell protected a$ainst the eleents- but is lar$e and cannot

 be ebedded into a pro%ect as easil'. The FTDI Basic uses DTR to cause a hard!are reset !here theFTDI cable uses the RTS si$nal.

This board !as desi$ned to decrease the cost of "rduino de(elopent and increase ease of use 1the

auto&reset feature rocks. 4ur "rduino 5ro and Lil'5ad boards use this t'pe of connector.
