    1. Inspection Requirements. This manual contains completrequirements for Preflight and Calendar Inspection of Individua

    Cold Climate Survival Kit. It does not contain instruction forepair, adjustment, or other means of rectifying conditions, nodoes it contain instructions for troubleshooting to find causes fomalfunctioning. Specific tolerances, limits, etc., can be found ithe applicable maintenance manuals. Use of the alphabeticaindex in the applicable manuals will facilitate locating threquired information.

    2. Scope. The inspections prescribed by this manual will baccomplished at specified periods by organizationamaintenance activities with assistance of direct and generasupport activities when required.

    3. General Information. a. The inspection requirementcontained herein are stated in such a manner so to establiswhen certain equipment is to be inspected and what conditionare desired/undesired. Compliance with the provisions outlineherein is required in order to assure that latent defects ardiscovered and corrected before malfunctioning or serioutrouble results. Inspection requirements

    are arranged, as nearly as possible, according to the manner iwhich they will be performed.

    b . The inspection intervals designated herein will not bexceeded except in actual operational emergencies aexplained herein. It is the commander's responsibility to determine (on an individual basis) when inspection intervals may bexceeded. For this purpose, operational emergencies arconditions of combat, or conditions of disaster which necessitatflight to evacuate aircraft or personnel. Since safety may bjeopardized when inspections are delayed to meet emergenc

    requirements, commanders will assure that delayed inspectionare accomplished immediately upon termination of the actuaemergency. When unusual local conditions of environmenutilization, mission, experience of maintenance personneperiods of inactivity, etc., are encountered, the ALSNCO/officer will, at his discretion, increase the scope and/ofrequency of maintenance or inspections as necessary to insursafety.

    4. Special Information. The columns headed P and C arused to indicate the requirements for Preflight and Calendainspections respectively. The calendar inspection

    interval is 120 days. Refer to TM 55-1680-317-23&P fomaintenance instructions.

    failure or malfunction of component prior to thnext scheduled accomplishment of threquirement which directed attention to thcondition.

    WARNINGWhen an abnormal condition is noted andpertinent procedures in this checklist do not

    specifically relate to the noted irregularity,work will be stopped and technically qualifiedguidance will be obtained from the lifesupport supervisor before continuing theoperation.

    PREFLIGHT INSPECTION

    The preflight inspection on life support equipment is basically flight preparedness check. As such, a visual inspection will bperformed by the crew, prior to each flight, to assure that the lifsupport equipment is in serviceable condition. On this basis, preflight inspection will be required on life support equipmenimmediately before issue for flight.

    CALENDAR INSPECTION

    The inspection consists of checking the life support equipmenfor flight preparedness by performing visual inspection anoperational checks of certain components to assure that ndefects or maladjustments exist which could cause accidents oaborted missions.
