The Master’s study programmes in Urbanism and Landscape Architecture train students to become skilful and authentic spatial designers. After completing a Master’s programme at the Academy, students are able to clearly formulate or reformulate design assignments, form powerful conceptual ideas and translate these into concrete spatial design proposals. In addition, students are taught at the Academy how to draw up a story independently, enter into a discourse about design considerations, and present a plan in a way that draws attention.

Admission requirements Registration for the Minor in Urbanism and Landscape Architecture is arranged via the Dutch organisation Kies op Maat. In order to register, your home institution must be affiliated with Kies op Maat and prepared to enter into a learning agreement. For more information see Kiesopmaat.nl. Course dates The Minor begins with a three-day design workshop in September 2015. The final presentation will take place in January 2016. Registration procedure Admission and assessment of suitability for the Minor occurs on the basis of a so-called ‘start portfolio’. This is a compactly designed document in which you show what your ideas are with regard to city and landscape. Indicate clearly in a letter of motivation why you want to do this Minor. One condition for starting the Minor is that the student submits a learning agreement in triplicate, which is also signed by the exam committee.

In this intellectually challenging but also practically arranged Minor in Urbanism and Landscape Architecture, the characteristic educational method of the Amsterdam Academy of Architecture - ‘the teaching of practical experiences’ correlated with ‘practical application of theory and knowledge - is employed. The combination of study and work, therefore, forms an essential part of the programme of this Minor. Various ideas about the city and country will be discussed, and several research and presentation techniques will be practised. The main aspect of this minor is ‘learning through experience and forming one’s own opinion. The manner of teaching is adapted to this.
