Via ffffound werden bepaalde blogs in korte tijd zeer bekend. bv. ‘Them Thangs, ‘Yim-my’s yayo’ & ‘Eiknarf’.

Andy Warhol’s “15 minutes of fame”)

Page 5: ARE WE LLLLOST?

Page 6: ARE WE LLLLOST?

BREUKLIJNEN

Page 7: ARE WE LLLLOST?

BESLUIT

Page 8: ARE WE LLLLOST?

INTERVIEWJEFF HAMADABOOOOOOOM

What is the main motivation for having a blog, why did you start it? What’s your drive?I really just use the blog as a way to connect with people who are interested in the same things as me. I do it for fun.

How did your blog get big, did you promote it or did it just happen?I committed to posting every week day for three years. I think if you just concen-trate on the content people will find out about it on their own.

What is your main influence, source, blog,… for getting interesting images?I buy lots of art books.

Is your choice of images influenced by popular demand? No I just post what I like.

Which blogs are worth following at the mo-ment?http://jennilee.tumblr.com/http://9-eyes.com/

Do you see yourself as a trendsetter, re-garding online images/visual culture? No. I think Booooooom is very influential because of the massive following now but I am totally uninterested in being labelled a “trendsetter” or “tastemaker”. I am just trying to help out people who are making good work.

How do you see yourself in a world where everybody is or wants to be a blogger?I think we’re just at a point where every-one is sharing and sharing and sharing and people are starting to be a lot more se-lective with where they look and who they follow because it is impossible to keep track of everything. In what way do you think ffffound contrib-uted to the success of your blog?I think it helped turn a lot of designers and creative professionals onto the site but the bulk of our readers heard about the site when we hosted the collaborative project with Spike Jonze’s blog to promote the “Where The Wild Things Are” film.

In a world where the leading bloggers are seen as curators of the internet’s visual culture, how do you feel about the blog-gers ego getting in the way of the content of the blog?I’m not sure I understand what you mean but I know for myself I try to take a backseat and let the artists’ work be the focus.

How do you feel about copyright issues regarding the images being used on blogs? Do you feel it’s an advantage/disadvantage for the original creator of the image you use?If you’re putting something onto the in-ternet it is to your advantage to make it as easy as possible for others to take it.

Did you personally experience problems re-garding copyright issues? No.

With the fast uprise of Social Media these days, how do you think this will change the blogging culture? It is information overload right now, peo-ple will start distancing themselves, hid-ing people’s content on Facebook, deleting RSS feeds, unsubscribing from uninterest-ing content. If you try to please everyone with your content no one will be inter-ested.

INTERVIEWALEX DENTTHEFOXISBLACK

What is the main motivation for having a blog, why did you start it? What’s your drive?Bobby started the thefoxisblack five years ago, which is kinda crazy in internet years. I’m not exactly sure why he started it, but I started reading it sometime in 2007 when I was in my third year of archi-tecture school; the blog was called kit-sunenoir back then. After I graduated, I moved out to LA and actually met Bobby in the real life. He was living just a few blocks from me and we became friends. I moved back to my rural hometown in 2010 and shortly after I moved out of LA, Bobby posted that he was looking for writers, so I sent him an e-mail with a writing sam-ple.

How did your blog get big, did you promote it or did it just happen?I’m not sure when kitsune noir blew up, but I’m pretty sure it had something to do with the desktop wallpaper project.

What is your main influence, source, blog,… for getting interesting images?I try not to use any single source more than once a week, but ArchDaily definiate-ly has a lock on finding high-resolution images of architecture. They are consist-ent and prolific which makes it easy to use as a source.

Is your choice of images influenced by popular demand? No.

Which blogs are worth following at the mo-ment?Archive of Affinities, Aaron Betsky’s blog, etc... there’s actually a lot. I read the comments on blogs almost as much as I read the content.

Do you see yourself as a trendsetter, re-garding online images/visual culture?Absolutely not. If this blogging situation were a popularity contest, I could come in dead last, even after the kid who wet his pants at a sleepover in the sixth grade. I did that, too.

How do you see yourself in a world where everybody is or wants to be a blogger? Is this true? I’m not sure everyone wants to be a blogger.

In what way do you think ffffound contrib-uted to the success of your blog?I would say in no way. I don’t think I’ve ever posted images ffffrom there.

In a world where the leading bloggers are seen as curators of the internet’s visual culture, how do you feel about the blog-gers ego getting in the way of the content of the blog?

I don’t think this applies to me at all. I just don’t have an ego. I will say that I disagree with bloggers who describe them-selves as curators. Some people just have good taste and they write about what they like; these are the bloggers that get at-tention. The job of a curator seems more complicated than combing through a bunch of press releases that people send you and deciding which ones to write about. I know that we try to be positive, because it’s too easy to talk about how gross things are, but this is problem because you end up saying “I like this” about almost eve-rything. But my opinion is not empirical evidence and I think this is the differ-ence between bloggers and curators: I can tell you what I like, but I don’t person-ally have the knowledge base or intel-lectual practice to tell you why what I like is significant in a broader field of cultural production.

How do you feel about copyright issues regarding the images being used on blogs? Do you feel it’s an advantage/disadvantage for the original creator of the image you use?Unsurprisingly, I think it’s a service if you can bring more attention to a crea-tive professional who is already publish-ing his/her work online. Do they not want people to see their stuff? Last week, I posted a video that I found on vimeo. It barely had a description and I couldn’t

Page 10: ARE WE LLLLOST?

find out who made it, so I posted about it and got an e-mail over the weekend from the video’s creator thanking me for shar-ing it, but that’s absurd; I thanked her for making it.

Did you personally experience problems re-garding copyright issues? Not really. One time, I did get a snarky e-mail from a fellow blogger saying that I wasn’t giving her enough credit by merely linking to her site. She wanted me to more prominently feature that I had found particular images of a space suit on her blog... images that she had found else-where. She concluded that I was an ir-responsible internet citizen and when I first read her e-mail, I was really nerv-ous. But then I reread her e-mail and realized she was upset that I hadn’t taken the opportunity to post about what an amazing site she had. But her site isn’t amazing and I wasn’t talking about her, I was talking about space suits. She’s prob-ably someone who would describer herself as a curator.

With the fast uprise of Social Media these days, how do you think this will change the blogging culture?I think blogging is already a kind of social media. It’s a way to tell folks about something you think is interesting and they can respond with “this is really interesting” or “this is worse than diar-

rhea.” And these are the polar reactions that are typical of comments. I would hope that blogging loses the impulse to speak as an expert on everything. Even though I went to architecture school and have spent years working in architecture firms, I’m not an expert on architecture. The stuff written about is too broad, and the mo-tivations of designers, artists and ar-chitects are too murky to be so explicit. That’s why I think we should move to an area where the “so what” becomes more per-sonal to the writers. But maybe I’m just old and have already started hating tech-nology. Kids these days.

Jeff Hamada creator of BOOOOOOM! ,an artist from Vancouver. Created Booooooom in hopes of foster-ing a community of people excited to go out and be creative! They quickly became one of the largest blogs on the internet, with over 3.2 million pageviews each month, and readers from all over the world. Incred-ibly, this is mainly the result of good old fashion word-of-mouth! So if you’ve told even one person about Booooooom hold your hand up to the monitor and accept this high-five! Did you feel that? That was no regular high-five, that was the highest-five in the history of highs and fives.

The site has a relatively good traffic rank in the cities of Richmond (#188) and South Bend (#1,177). Visitors to the site spend roughly 50 seconds on each pageview and a total of two minutes on the site during each visit. Roughly 68% of visits to this site are bounces (one pageview only). While we estimate that 36% of visitors to Booooooom.com come from the US, where it is ranked #15,615, it is also popular in Mexico, where it is ranked #12,863.

Them Thangs is run by Justin Blyth. Justin has been working in  design, motion graphics, print, advertis-ing, art direction and film for the good part of 10 years. Born and raised in Los Angeles, he received his BFA from Art Center in 2004 and is currently living in Amsterdam working directly with clients, agencies, and boutiques. Recent clients include Psyop, Sixpack France, Sid Lee Amsterdam, Flaunt Magazine, W+K Amsterdam, Warp Records, Nike, Playstation, Computer Arts UK, Stardust, Freshjive, Blend Magazine, 180, Adidas, Chiat/ Day, Dkonstrukt, Sony/ BMG, Stussy, Spotify, PIC Agency, Post-Panic, Ambassadors, Lifelong Friendship Society, Microsoft, and many more…

Justin sees the site as ‘ritualistic iconography’. Systems of symbols and pictures that are consti-tuted in a certain ordered and determined relation-ship to the form, content, and intention of presenta-tion are believed to be among the most important means of knowing and expressing religious facts. Such systems also contribute to the maintenance and strengthening of the relationships between man and the realm of the sacred or holy. The symbol is, the mediator, and real representation of the holy in certain conventional and standardized forms.

This blog was set up by 2 masterstudents from Sint Lucas Antwerp. They made this blog to investigate the ongoing blog phenomenon. They blog every-thing they find interesting, some say they have a thing for 70’s/80’s material and an exquisit taste in women. They both see it as an outlet of there crea-tive overload. On the blog you can see a clearly objective choice of images. It is not bound to popu-lar demand, of hordes of hipsters feeding on the most popular pictures out there.
