A 1950s-INSPIRED RANGE WITH A MODERN EDGE

The abacus® Spring Summer 2014 collection com-bines authentic Swedish design with bright colours and bold patterns, creating a 1950s-inspired range with a modern edge.

Black and white form the foundations of the collec-tion, with aptly named colours – lemonade, lipstick, blue iris, cobolt and emerald – injecting summer time hues throughout the range. Polka dots and bold stri-pes punctuate the cheerful theme of the ensemble.

“The happy colours and playful patterns reflect our belief in the importance of having fun on the golf course and enjoying the game. We want golfers to look, feel and ultimately play their very best,” said Chris Mattsson, Designer at Abacus Sportswear.

“The collection is designed to work “as one”, based on five key colours with complementing patterns and styles.”

The Designer continued: “The line has been deve-loped to combine a mix of solids and graphic motifs with contrasting textures and colours to form styles that are clean, functional and edgy – representative of our Swedish heritage.”

THE PRODUCTS

As always, technical fabrics shape the collection with CoolMax, DryCool, Cocona and Drycool Sun Protection fabrics featuring throughout.

As always, the rainwear remains a key aspect of the collection with classic pieces, such as the Barton rain jacket adapted for the Spring Summer 2014 in the range’s new colour schem.

The Walton rain jacket is a new addition for Spring Summer 2014. Made with StretchDry fabric, the jack-et contains a lightweight mesh lining – a technical piece useful for both on and off the golf course.

Spring Summer 2014 introduces a com-pletely new wind programme for both men and women. The new range of windwear, entitled Glade, com-prises two-tone combinations, fusing classic outerwear design with a dash of sporty style. Every lightweight Glade garment is both windproof and water repellent.

At Abacus Sportswear our aim is to develop good looking, functional clothes that deliver what they promise and really work in all weathers.

We have amongst other things utilized the natural fibre from the coconut shell which contains active carbon and protects against UV radiation (Cocona®).With a combination of bamboo carbon and micro-fibre we have woven another wonderful fabric that protects against UV radiation and also reduces the risk of unpleasant odours when the sun makes you hot. So let the sun shine.

Cocona® fibers and yarns provide effective evaporative cooling, odour absorption and UV protection, using the finest quality of activated carbon made from coconut shells. The fabric is light weighted, comfortable with stretch. Cocona® technology is contained inside the fiber and it will never wash off or wear out.

With the combination of Bamboo Charcoal and micro polyester moisture is transfered from the skin to the outer surface, and quickly evaporates, while main-taining body temperature. Bamboo Charcoal contains natural minerals, which absorb moisture, prevent bacteria growth, reduce odour and give UV-protection.

(WP), and its ability to breathe and ventilate is measured in Moisture

If we have a piece of fabric which is 25 cm and it can be stretched to double that, then the coefficient is x 2,0. In other words you can have an extreme twist in your swing without the fabric resisting. We have allowed an independent laboratory to investigate the stretch coefficient in our usual rain fabrics.

Our new material abacus® Barton Stretchlite has the almost unbelievable x 2,64 in CoS.

StretchLite: Waterproof 2-layer stretch in extreme lightweight, 10.000 WP / 10.000 MVP, ideal for golf and outdoor activities when freedom of movement is a priority. Extremely flexible, without lining, packable and with a DWR finishing to improve water repellency and stain protection. All weather fabric for active people.

WindVent: Our wind garments are highly breathable and effectively protect against wind, light rain and cold. Just as important is the fact they are lightweight. The water repellency provides protection against light rain. The garment retains the heat from your body, a comfortable and warm garment, desig-ned for many outdoor activities. Folded up it takes a minimum of room in your bag.

Coolmax: Coolmax is inherent in the fiber structure itself. Coolmax moves perspiration away from the body to the fabrics outer surface where it can evaporate quickly which helps the wearer to stay dry and comfortable.

Schoeller No Mulesing: The yarns used in these products are subjected to stringent quality tests, and the wool is sourced from carefully selected farms and areas, where no mulesing takes place.

OPT stretchTM 15 000: Waterproof 2-layer stretch material, 15.000 WP / 30.000 MVP, a fabric that offers a very high water-proofness, unique breathability and outstanding stretchability, ideal for outdoor activities. Extremely flexible and with DWR finishing that provides excellent water repellency and stain protection.

Stretch Dry: Waterproof 2-layer stretch fabric 10.000 WP / 10.000 MVP, a fabric that offers very good breathability, water-proofness and windproofness and an outstanding stretchability, ideal for outdoor activities. Extremely flexible, sealed seams and with WR finishing that provides good water repellency and stain protection.

Cocona®: Cocona® fibers and yarns provide effective evaporative cooling, odour absorption and UV protection, using the finest quality of activated carbon made from coconut shells. The fabric is light weighted, comfortable with stretch. Cocona® technology is contained inside the fiber and it will never wash off or wear out.

DrycoolTM: Drycool moves perspiration away from the body to the fabrics outer surface where it can evaporate quickly which helps the wearer to stay dry and comfortable.

To create rainwear is actually not so very difficult. The big challenge lies in being able to play good golf in them. At Abacus Sportswear we develop our rain garments using a number of fundamental criteria. They must be watertight, ventilated, wind tight and durable. And they must have elasticity, good fit and design which gives you 100 percent comfort and freedom of motion.

A garment’s WATERTIGHTNESS is usually measured in millimetre water pillar (WP). 1 000 WP means quite simply that the garment stands up to the pressure of 1 000 mm water (imagine that you hold a 1 metre high tube of water against the garment without the water coming through the fabric). A garment with 2 000 WP is allowed to be called waterproof according to EU standards, but if you have pressure against the garment a higher figure than that is needed. If you for example use a carry bag, the pressure is increased over your shoulders and back and that can press water through the fabric. If this is the case you should choose a jacket with at least 10 000 WP.

Even though the outside of a garment must stand up to pressure from water, it’s the opposite on the inside. The garment needs to ventilate or breathe to be comfortable. BREATHABILITY is measured by how many grams water per square metre the fabric allows through over 24 hours, this measurement is known as MP.

All you really need to know is that if there’s an abacus® label in the collar you have a perfect golf garment that will keep you nice and dry during the worst rain weather.
